I think he would've let himself actually pass out in Philly over taking it off. Starting to wonder if the part of his torso between his belly button and nipples even exists. That’s a good point about how someone will pick him apart no matter what. He could look better than many 30-something year olds but someone would still have rude things to say or make comments that someone his age shouldn’t be taking their shirt off in public. He could get away with it if he had abs but that’d take a crazy amount of work. I do think he has an advantage being a man, because I think people will pic apart a woman faster for dressing “not her age” but still. It also probably doesn’t help that he’s got Kevin right next to him who probably would have followed suit and I’m sure he still has abs. Throughout GD's mainstream career it's been very rare even when he was perfectly buff and like 32. And a thin shirt or shirtless probably doesn't make that much difference in such a hot show so it isn't a factor in it. You make a good point about the window pic. I can’t believe I forgot about that for a moment. My guess then is that it’s purely just an image thing and he likes to stay “in uniform” so to speak when he’s performing. And you’re right, I remember thinking at the time that even if he took his shirt off it probably wouldn’t do anything to cool him off at that point. I was flabbergasted when after the Super Bowl performance Lady Gaga was attacked because she had a (very) small tummy. I thought she looked fantastic.
