I think the reason he isn't viewed by the general public as a sexy performer is because he does make a joke out of it.  Jerking off on stage?  Hot.  Smelling your fingers afterwards?  Not so much.

 

Oddly enough, I can't pinpoint the start of my crush.  I remember reading an interview in 2004 and thinking "You did not look like that in the 90s" and becoming very pro guys in eyeliner from that point on, but it was still solely about the music for me at that point (and the politics).  My crush started after I got back into the band when they released Bang Bang in August 2016, and before I bought tickets to the Aragon show which was supposed to be in Sept that year, but I can't trace it to one point.  I just know I was watching a bunch of videos.  I know I was watching Kill the DJ (still love the walking in slow mo) and Oh Love a lot.  I also can't remember the first time I saw the masturbating videos.  I'm getting old.

Totally agree.  Wouldn’t you just loved to have been at that band practice though - Billie “so, I’m thinking of fake jerking off during hitching a ride” .  Mike and Tre “great idea” 😂😂.  Anyone care to speculate how that convo went or do we think he just started it one show and they were like what the hell is he doing....

I think by that point his father in law knew very well the guy his daughter married. Surprised anything shocked him but it was very little boy cute of Billie to make a joke and apologize.

Yeah, I'm not saying his father-in-law didn't know him/was shocked. I'm just saying maybe the reason he cut it short (he stopped pretty abruptly, and usually it goes on longer) was because maybe his father-in-law doesn't have that kind of humour/doesn't like that stuff and Billie knew that and was being respectful, or maybe he felt more awkward knowing his father-in-law was there watching when usually it's just strangers in the crowd. Or it could've been something else, but to me, it feels like the "thing" was cut short and since Billie mentions his father-in-law straight afterwards, I'm inclined to believe it was something to do with that.

Not necessarily. He may not have felt that it was such a big deal that he needed to change his own behaviour/change the way he does the show, but may have still wanted to cut it short for some of the reasons I mentioned above or whatever. And I do think he was making a joke of it, but the joke was clearly based on something.

He was totally joking but I think his father in law is literally a pastor or something so it was particularly appropriate to apologise . He loves awkward stuff like that though, I've heard he dedicated Blood Sex and Booze to his mum once. His mum was also at the Nimrod show where he jumped in the crowd to fight someone, he apologised to her later in the show

it must be quite an interesting relationship at times that Billie has with his in-laws.  I didn’t know 80’s dad was a pastor but I knew her mum does something along those lines and publishes theological papers (if that’s the correct term).
