I feel like I should clarify that the last paragraph was written at a time when I was not well established on GDC and did really feel truly alone. That sentiment has changed. The middle paragraph has not. I still don't know what to do with myself because it feels like I'm in love with the unattainable and it's holding me back from finding someone in my own life and ti scares me and I'm still embarrassed about it. Confessions are hard. Maybe that's why we just fangirl over Billie here instead of ever actually confessing anything.

Speaking of which, I have no words for how beautiful he looks here! I love black and white photographs of him and this one is particularly stunning.

I think you are really brave in sharing all this, and I can assure you you are not at all alone in your feelings. I don't think there is anything wrong with you having high standards, and this is likely preferable to you settling for someone who is not right for you and putting yourself in an unhealthy situation. I see a lot of myself in your words here. For me, I was not seeking the unattainable, but rather trying to be the unattainable. I was raised to feel I was never good enough, so I went through much of my life feeling in adequate and like I would never be good enough for anyone. And when you project that image to others, well, they believe you. Over the past few years I have worked to accept myself and live truer to myself, and as cliché as it sounds, once you get honest with yourself and start living your truth, you start attracting more likeminded people and even connecting on deeper levels/finding more common ground with the people already in your life. I guess that's why I react strongly sometimes when I feel judged; it takes me back to traumatic events that forced me to be hide parts of myself. And my work to accept myself is also what brought me back to Green Day, which was my favorite band in my teens and which always made me feel seen, heard, and represented. I guess that's why Billie being unapologetically himself is my favorite thing about him, since I strive to do the same. 

To bring things back to fangirling, here is a picture of Billie with flowers. Not sure if they are carnations and not sure about his expression, but he looks like he is thinking about biting them. 🤣

It seems like every day I find something to make me love Billie Joe even more. And I love him for so much more than just his looks (but I still think he’s the most attractive living thing in the universe). He is just such an amazing person and there is no one else like him. He is extremely talented, and appears to be very loyal and committed to his life and the people he knows. He is hard working and always pushes himself to produce the best work he can in his music, song writing, and something new to him like acting. He has also proved multiple times that he is not a closed off person and not afraid to show or admit his own feelings. It seems like he would make a great friend. Like he would be a person who cares and would be there for someone. I know I don’t know him, but it feels like I do. And I know I only know as much about him as he has made public, but I feel like if I ever met him, it wouldn’t be like meeting a stranger, but like meeting a very good friend who I haven’t seen for a long time.

I don’t know what real, romantic love is like yet, but I can’t comprehend loving another person more than him and I’m worried that I won’t ever find that because of my feelings toward him or because I just won’t find it. I like these feelings but the intensity of it makes me feel like they’re wrong, even though they’re not. I want reassurance that they aren’t, but I’m too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it. I don’t know, maybe this is completely normal for girls my age who don’t have an actual, real, physical boyfriend for an outlet and I just never hear about it.

It feels like I am almost always thinking about him or just Green Day in general and I feel like that’s weird too. But it’s because I have no one in the real world to share the feelings with so they stay locked up. I know everyone has their own thing like this, but it feels like I’m all alone in it. I’ve tried to find other people to talk to about Green Day but it’s hard and seems like no one either likes them or feels similar to the way I do. Even on the Green Day site my attempt to make contact with people fell flat. I asked if there were any other Green Day fans in Seattle, if they liked the concert that happened when they were here, if they also would like Green Day to come back here soon/should come more, and other things. I haven’t gotten one response since I posted that a few months ago and it makes me feel even more alone.

 

Thank you for sharing what so many of us are feeling.  You articulate perfectly my feelings for Billie and what he has contributed to my life as well.  It is also notable how GDC is different than any other fandom.

What is it with Billie and biting/licking things? Don't get me wrong, I am definitely NOT complaining. He just seems like a very mouthy person.  I know Billie took to licking peoples' phones during the Longshot tour when they got too close with them as well. Pretty sure there is footage of someone getting their phone's lens licked at a show, but I don't know where to find it anymore.

I’m so glad this man never caught some crazy illness. Or did he? To this day does anyone actually know why the early Rev Rad shows in late 2016 were canceled? Aren’t phones super dirty? This man is so dirty! Miss him so much… He’s such a nasty little gremlin ❤️

He and several other crew members had the flu was the official report. There was one interview from then that just Mike and Tre did with a radio station where they explained Billie was home with a high fever

What @pacejunkie punk said but I seem to remember at the time there was lots of fun and messing around with the masks which was great, but not if somebody had bugs to spread!

Also didn’t he say one time that he stopped kissing every fan on the mouth after 21CB tour because he was getting sick a lot? I remember something about that it may have had to do with the other thing I remember that Adrienne told him to quit it.

Source on the Adrienne part? Only thing I heard on that subject was according to Billie she once googled "Billie Joe Armstrong bisexual" and there were lots of photos of him kissing guys lol. Many years before that they said they stopped spitting on/being spat on by fans because they kept getting sick, maybe thinking of that?

When I saw Foxboro Hot Tubs in 2009 my sister and I caught swine flu (still the most ill I've ever been in my life) from a bunch of other people who had it, and the band was apparently ill after it too. Unsurprising with constant beer being passed from the stage to multiple people and crowdsurfing and kissing and beer spitting going on from Billie. It was a superspreader event.

Billie appeared to stop kissing people once he got sober on the 99 Revolutions Tour and I kind of assumed it was that. Only my observation/opinion. 

I noticed that after the girl got on stage at Hella Mega for KYE (Florida I think) and went in for a hug/kiss no one got invited on stage for KYE again afterwards!

It could have been in relation to the spitting thing the getting sick part but the Adrienne thing I remember in relation to his kissing so many girls that tour but I can’t never find where I read things. He was so flirty that tour I can see her saying okay enough like he crossed a line.

I remember reading the Adrienne comment too, but only once years ago and I never saw it again.  Don't remember if it was from an official source, or just a fan comment somewhere though.  There were still a handful of times after he got sober during the trilogy tour.  RevRad, the few times it happened, it was the fan kissing him.  I figured part of the reason why he pulled back was because some people have gotten more sensitive about that kind of thing the past few years so he just lets the fan drive it.

I think the kissing started as him being provocative by grabbing guys and kissing them but from about American Idiot onwards (by which time GD's audience interaction became much more friendly and non confrontational) it just became a thing where fans were happy to come up and give him a kiss or get a kiss from him. Although he seems to initiate it less (and he's never been the one to initiate it with girls at GD shows) IIRC a couple of times fans have done it at more recent shows and he's obliged. It's just harmless and friendly, although obviously unlikely to be happening under present circumstances! I've never heard of Billie or Adrienne saying anything about it.
