I was excited for this at first but now I'm kinda bummed about it. I do think Back In the USA will just end up being a cover of this:

This just seems like a weird time for a greatest hits. Last time they did it was because Warning didn't sell too well, and I feel like RevRad did ok (for a rock album in this era anyways), I kinda think this is just a way for them to keep touring without a new album. They said that this last tour has been their best one, so I'm not surprised that they would stay on the road, and this release would help them do so. and that bums me out because there were the rumors of them going right into the studio after this tour, but I just don't see that happening. and if GD has new material they wanna record then why put out a greatest hits album now? especially if these new songs are apparently really ambitious? this makes me think that a new album will be longer away than we expected (and yes, I know there was just one last year, but still). And like Todd said, I hope that there's a new b-sides collection in the works

What is their problem with Insomniac?? Geese.   This kind of sucks.  Left out some big hits but have 2000 light years? Left out Waiting, JOS.  Should have either been a double album with all the singles or double album with American Idiot to present day.

This sucks.

I don't really get why people care about stuff from pre-AI being absent since they're already on ISH. I mean, I kinda get the annoyance with tracks like JoS being absent

I don't get why anyone would care what the tracklisting is.... you can literally just make your own greatest hits CD and put whatever songs you want on it. :ermm:

I really hope the new song is not a cover though!

Boy this thread got increasingly more negative since this morning, haha. We all already have these songs (apart from two) so I don't think it's the end of the world because one or two were left off. If a non-fan listens to this and doesn't like any of it, I guarantee that ONE song we think should've been swapped wouldn't have changed anything. If Back In the USA turns out to be a cover, THAT would be disappointing as f*ck though I agree. Mostly because I can't stand when bands mislead fans like that and it happens ALL THE TIME.

But c'mon guys, we have hilarious new art/merch, the possibility of a new song, maybe a better version of OW, and a new video, at minimum. Considering we only knew there would be a video, we're doing better than we were 24 hours ago!

Regarding a new album, their pattern is like 4 years between albums. Even if they're moving faster this time around it's still going to be AT LEAST another year. That's like fastest possible scenario if they get recording ASAP. And do we really want that? I'd rather they take their time and get it right.

To everyone complaining about the track list: Think of this list as a list of GREEN DAY'S favorite songs. Like, what Billie Joe Armstrong would put on HIS "greatest GD songs CD playlist." Now, go calm down.

So I don't have time to read through all pages, so maybe this has been talked about already, but if I buy the physical copy from the website, will I also get a downloadable version?

Tom said that? I am impressed.  You guys should listen to that man.  He knows his shit.  I am not saying there is a B-sides being released but I am also not saying that I didn't hear rumbles of a rumor that a B-sides is being considered.  THIS IS RUMOR shit.  I did not hear this from a source but I actually did hear (quite a while ago at this point), almost just after the release of RevRad last October that a B-Sides album would be right around the time that this greatest hits album would be released.   It was my opinion that they would do one or the other.

Also, and again NOT NEWS (RUMORS) so no international news breakdown on me saying this. It's no different than you guys hearing it from someone like Todd who I can tell you from my small interactions with him that he is knowledgeable intuitively and coupled with what I have heard and with Todd either thinking, wanting or hearing that a B-Sides could be in the works, I heard that a year ago and that included a different rendition of 2 popular songs (that I won't name).  I HAVE NO IDEA if this is true or not.  It is a RUMOR that I heard from someone that wouldn't know definitely one way or the other. I knew this album was getting released around now a while ago and that was the hint I dropped (and something else which has yet to be released) in GRN but a B-Sides album would something I personally would fucking love and especially different versions of popular or even un-popular songs. (Believe it or not, to non-super fans they don't know every song).  Also, I suspect they go directly into the studio again.  I heard they were as a matter of fact.  I would expect a short break and then I am guessing a RC GD album in the not too distant. Billie truly did absolutely love this tour.  And while we were all bitching about setlists, Billie was enjoying the North American leg as much as any he has in years.

Exciting, scary times as Billie is edging closer to 50 and with every year I remember the interview where he spoke of how eloquently Tom Petty aged with his music and didn't jump like a fool around the stage and how he doesn't want to be Steve Tyler from Aerosmith doing flips on the trusses at 50 "Act your age man".  That interview is haunting me because I dread the day GD is no longer on the ballot.

Here is why, I don't like a lot of other touring rock bands.  I am a fan of Phish and Green Day and those pretty much round up the rock shows I would go to. Maybe Muse, maybe etc.  Like I wasn't even excited to see U2 again this year and was just meh.  I like bands like Phish, moe., String Cheese Incident, Blackalicious, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang, and shit like that so Green Day stands in a class all to their own. I always thought of the last 15 years of Green Day as if Freddie Mercury and The Beatles had a baby and those are my two favorite artist and group (Queen as I love Taylor and May is my favorite guitarist probably).  Anyway, Ill stop rambling.

Exciting stuff to come but nothing lasts forever.  Besides, Who Really Wants to Live Forever?

Or here is an alternative.  The fact, as someone has pointed out, is that it means more things to get Green Day on talk shows, at pop up shows and more reasons to just be relevant right now

To that point, it doesn't necessarily mean that BB. There is no way of knowing who had the actual listing decision but WHY THE FUCK DOES IT MATTER in this day and age.  I've got about 20 Green Day greatest hits album on my iMusic.  One for the car. One for slow jams.  One for covers.  One for driving.  One for rocking out.  One for... etc.

It's called a playlist.  Go make your own of your favorite Green Day songs or even tributes and be on with it. What is the fucking difference about what is on this other than them wanting to sell more?  It makes no difference to you.  You can literally pick a list of songs and put them together in any order you want and the only difference is that it wasn't already done  I love you all but sometimes you guys create drama over NOTHING.

BB you are dead on.  Move on.org

If you get the cd alone it's $12, if you get it with the badges its $20.

So the badges are $8

if you get the Vinyl alone it's $25, if you get it with the badges it's $35.

So the badges are $10

People who buy the Vinyl are being ripped off with the badges

I love this place and yes, we believe the band to be grateful/happy about us - the loyal, dare I say rabid followers - but I just assumed, with this track listing, they were aiming at the newer audience they appear to have picked up with Revrad, there is no denying the age spread in their audience at live shows.  The fact that we get the original BIAB reference to GFB and know the original photo shoot, well good for us.  Nobody is making us buy the new CD, shame how negative this has got as the day has gone on when there was at real buzz when the announcement first came out.  Yes, many of us would have rather had a live CD (I would love more live footage too) but hey, nobody gets everything.

I agree with @LaughingClock, how long can Billie keep on performing like he does, we should be thankful for everything and if there is more to come then fabulous!  Keep it coming...........

I thought they would do a live DVD, and a live DVD would have been nice as I'm a new GD fan, but I'm very happy with this news and I'm happy with the song choices on the greatest hits album. There's too many people here who seem to think that GD should always cater to them with setlists, and now this greatest hits album.

I think that if you put GFB and International Superhits together you've got two great greatest hits albums :)

Ok, you can call this news as a matter of fact and it's very obvious.  THERE IS PLENTY MORE TO COME!

Hang tight.  Be patient and all of your desires shall come to pass.  And you're right.  Mike talked about this in some interview I think when AI came out and they started earning a new generation of fans that when songs like Longview, FOD, Burnout and Hitching' became songs that drew a few blank faces because everyone didn't know them, that there was sort of a "changing of the guard" thing going on.   These were there old #1s.  Their currently fastest charting #1 song ever is Bang Bang.  It's an interesting fact to me.   THINK ABOUT THAT.  Going all the way back to the 1039/Kerplunk days to RevRad and all the #1s between them, the fastest charting one was Bang Bang. That speaks VOLUMES to the relevance that Green Day has RIGHT NOW.  And having a generational audience is so true and the fans aren't just fans they adore him. Much like the fans like Queen.  I obviously, like most think that Billie idolized Freddie Mercury from the way he builds his stage, to the way he performs, I believe he tried to emulate (literally emulate) Freddie Mercury. I don't think there has been a performer in rock as good as Freddie ever and I have seen them in concert one time when I was too young to really appreciate it or know what was going on.  (My cousin was a stage hand for queen when I was a kid in the states legs of their tour sometime in the mid 80s and I got to go when I was like 5 or 6 years old) and I just took my daughter to her first Green Day show at 5 years old and she is HOOKED.   CRUSH and all! lol.

She was fawning over him.  It was adorable.  I can't believe I just said that.

What was I on about?  Oh yeah, Jen, you're right. I believe Billie's perception of his aging will lead to rapid fire music that we haven't seen from them in their history as he feels so musical right now and knows he won't be young forever although he's doing a damn good job.  He certainly has found a fountain of youth somewhere and drank from it.  There's a doubt at the fountain of youth, and I'm thirsty as shit.

Ya know, Springsteen is 23 years older than Billie and he's only just started to run around a bit less on stage (but he does it for 4 hours), he still hints at sexy things, and manages to do all of that with class, so the way I see it, Billie has plenty of years left where he can do this IF he takes care of himself. He said that quote soooo long ago when he had no idea what it would be like to be 50 anyway.

This is exactly what I just said but I made it about a page as I tend to do. :)  You are absolutely right. I am older than all of you and remember when albums were the only way. You guys are used to making your own greatest hits for most of your lives (most of you).  WHO GIVES A FUCK?  The important thing is it is another thing for them to promote and be out there for no matter if it's a pop up show, a one off show, a festival, a commercial, a fucking whatever, the point isn't the tracks on the album, it's that there is one.

Make a greatest hits list of songs that start with the letter P.  I could probably come up with 12 easily.   Come on guys.  Save the drama for yo mama.

*****TOTAL SIDE NOTE...GO SEE HAMILTON! Saw it for the second time last night and it's the best play ever made.

"new songs"

Only 1 new song @Khaleesi. fix so nobody else reads the entire list of songs only to be as gravely disappointed
