That ''filter''  has been used in a lot GD songs throughout the years. It is to give the voice som kind of distortion. I think it fits OK to this song, just because it gives a little more darker emotion to the song, and then his voice clear up in the bridge.

Well, I know that it's a thing they do very often. And sometimes it does fit, especially on some songs on 21st Century Breakdown. But I don't like the excessive use of it. It doesn't make the song any better in my opinion.

Considering I loathe Ordinary World on Rev Rad, I think this version is a nice improvement. Billie's voice is way stronger on it and less pathetic sounding than the original. Miranda's voice seems a little out of place at times but overall gives it a nice touch and a little something more to the song. I will never "like" this song but this is far more tolerable. They might have some luck with it on country stations, who knows. I do kind of wish they'd stop trying to make it a hit though.

I really dig Back in the USA. You can't hold it to the standards that you would other singles as people have said. I agree its pretty unusually straight forward for something Tre or Mike would do. I feel like Billie probably wrote the song very quickly, demo'd it, and the guys were just like "yeah, I like it, simple, straightforward. Let's just record it like this". And they just went and did it without really messing with it like they would if they were making an album.

I think lyrically he did a good job not crossing the corny/preachy line as well which I was worried about given the song title. I love the line "Let freedom ring with all the crazies on parade" that's really what it feels like here right now. I'm also enjoying the whole Back in the USA part. It feels kind of bitter sweet like this is his home, where else would he go, but at the same time something's not right. Whoever mentioned that they think it's about the US tour, I agree, he probably was inspired by that. Overall I like it.

This is just my personal opinion, but I feel it would have been better if they took the Queen route with the greatest hits. Making a double or triple album, and releasing a Platinum Collection of all of them later down the road. There's just too many good songs to chose from, and I feel that each album could have it's own purpose.

Album 1 could be for the Green Day staples, like this one is. Album 2 could cater to the bigger fans, putting songs that were live staples of their tours. Paper Lanterns, The Grouch, East Jesus Nowhere, Church on Sunday, Castaway, Forever Now, 99 Revolutions, One of my Lies, etc. Finally Album 3 could be for the songs that Green Day veterans would love. 409 in your Coffeemaker, 86, Misery, Stray Heart, Whatsername, Outlaws, J.A.R., At The Library, Don't Leave Me, and the list goes on!

2000 Light Years sounds brickwalled to hell on this album...

I like Back in the USA.  It reminds me of what I thought when I first heard RevRad (the song)- standard rock song, but likeable.

As a huge Ordinary World fan, not a huge fan of this version.  I tried going in with an open mind since I don't like Miranda Lambert, but I don't think their voices blend well together.  I liked Foreverly, but Billie and Norah's voices blended.  Here, it just feels like two singers who happen to be singing the same song.  And Miranda's voice is too sugary for me.

What bothers me is this "filter" over Billies voice at the beginning of the song. I'm not an expert when it comes to production, but...Why? He's got such an amazing voice, why do they cover it with all these effects? I feel like this is something they do quite often and I just don't know why.

I was wondering when we'd see the word "filter" used when talking about the new songs.

Note: It doesn't once say "Fuck These People" so I'm assuming they're not the same song, as some suspected.

BITU is solid enough, my only issue is that it's too short, think it deserves a bridge. it ends a bit prematurely but I'm enjoying it all the same :)

Maybe it was written after Revolution radio was released? I'm sure there was an Instagram photo months back of Billy Joe and the studio with a caption saying something like : working on Green Day'

Thank you both :runaround:

I caught it - and I really liked it. The delay/reverb make it kind of hard to understand but it sounds cool and I loved the melody. Nice, catchy but not an earworm.

USA is pretty cool. A nice little bonus track. Nothing fancy, and that's just fine.

I am very much someone who doesn't like remixes and re-records except for a few outliers. So I have listened to this OW once and I will probz never voluntarily listen to it again. His singing feels slightly slower than the original and it's driving me nuts.

I like the bass tone on back in the usa, it sounds better than the bass on revrad, it got lost in the mix on that album! once someone gets the CD or vinyl can someone please post the production credits? I know it's produced by Green Day but I'm guessing engineered by Chis Dugan, I'm curious to see who mixed and mastered it though.

In regards to the song being Billie on all the instruments... I didn't notice that first but I can see it, at least on the drums. Mike's bass playing isn't as busy as it used to be, so it could be him on this. Maybe Mike and Tre play on this but it's half assed because they learned the song quick to get it out on time. the backing vocals in the chorus don't all sound like billie to me.

Yeah, mixing was terrible on RevRad and so was overall production!

On that note, was the mix of RevRad songs on GFB any better?
