Can someone find the post about Billie and Miranda Lambert recording together? I remember it was back during or before the summer tour I think, someone saw them outside the studio together or something?

I had found a mention on twitter that linked to a Tumblr post about someone seeing Billie and Miranda leaving a studio in Denver as they were going in, and it started the speculation that they had recorded together.

I think releasing OW with Miranda is a better move strategically. Back In The USA is a good song but it's not going to make a mark on rock/alternative radio. OW could be a hit on country & some adult mainstream stations.

Guys, this is a song on a Greatest Hits album. It itself isn't going to be a greatest hit from the band so it's unfair to hold it to a standard such as a lead single from an album. If it was that good, the guys would have saved it for the next album.

I do not think it would make a good single at all. Both songs are mediocre. Ordinary World is very bland, and Miranda's voice sounds monotone to me. I can't stand it. Back in the USA is underwhelming. We were expecting a new Green Day song, and instead, they gave us what sounds like one of Billie's home demos. There's not even a guitar solo in it

But maybe it could work. I've been hearing some truly awful new songs on the country station lately, Ordinary World would blend right in

This. Thank you. It’s okay to love it for what it is but they have no expectations of it being a hit or it wouldn’t have been a bonus track.

Honestly the new version of Ordinary World sounds so off to me, I really dislike it. The harmony is really bad, they should've completely changed it up and changed key/introduced the full band and made it more musical-esque if they were gonna do anything at all.

Well, if they made the video for Back in the USA and if it features scenes of the boys on the road and of live shows, I will cry for sure. It would fit the song perfectly imo because it's so emotional and totally sounds like a resumé of an era for me.

That was actually a really good idea.

The whole instrumental part is disappointing to me. It's a generic pop-punk song good charlotte/simple plan would have released in the early 00s. If it wasn't for the (good) lyrics, this song would be a bummer.

Nope i don't think so. The melody is really nice and kind of deep. The lead guitar in the start of the verses is really great and are one of the better ones i have heard the last years from GD.

The guitars in Back in the USA is reminding me of the riffs in Stay the Night. It has a similar sound and feel.

I do agree with you. Miranda's vocal lines sound pretty vague to me... Unnecessary, at least.

Exactly. It doesn't have to be a good song for it to be a hit on country stations. How anyone listens to that genre and actually enjoys it is completely beyond me.

I completely disagree. The guitar tone in stay the night is one of the most ''softest'' tones GD has ever made, and the tone here in Back in The USA has comparisons to East Jesus Nowhere / a bit Bang Bang /  Boulevard  imo

I like "Back in the USA"! I get the vibe though that Billie is the musician on all of the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, vocals). The drum pattern is very simple and there's no Tré-like fills or patterns anywhere. Same goes for bass - there are no little variations off the main progression that Mike likes to do, it simply follows the guitar progression.

Maybe that's what he was doing in Australia - would make sense that the guy captioned a picture of Billie only "recording Green Day"

I would recommend reading through the past five pages :)

Just wanted to make sure. Last time we got a supposed leak, it was a fake.

((On a side note: Holy fuck; every consistently active member of GDC is on this post-))

I kind of already miss our discussion if this is a cover or not. It was fun:lol: Keep the songs with ambiguous titles coming, Green Day!

Just gave the tracks a listen.

OW: Doesn't do anything for me. I just don't like how her voice and Billie's mesh together.
Back in the USA: I liked it enough on the first listen, and I definitely see it as something that I can grow to like even more. I can definitely see how it consists of what, well, I wanted to say pop punk is now but I do agree with the people that previously posted stating that it reminded them of GC's 'The Anthem' and that was released 15 years ago...

What bothers me is this "filter" over Billies voice at the beginning of the song. I'm not an expert when it comes to production, but...Why? He's got such an amazing voice, why do they cover it with all these effects? I feel like this is something they do quite often and I just don't know why.

The song itself is decent. I think I'd be disappointed if it was the lead single of a new studio album. But it works perfectly fine as a B-side.

At this point, I really think that OW is going to the next single. I'm not really familiar with Miranda Lambert but I guess she's very popular in the US? So maybe it would be a smart move to release this song and get some radio airplay.

Eh, it's OK. It's not terrible but also nothing spectacular. I didn't really get my hopes up, so it's pretty much what I expected.

Why do his vocals sound so strange on the verses though, especially in the beginning?

I like it, but it feels really unfinished. Would've loved a bridge!

This! I felt like the song was just starting to build and a bridge would've been perfect, and then... it's over. :(

That ''filter''  has been used in a lot GD songs throughout the years. It is to give the voice som kind of distortion. I think it fits OK to this song, just because it gives a little more darker emotion to the song, and then his voice clear up in the bridge.
