A 2017 Welcome To Paradise recording would be pretty different from a 1994 one regardless. Realistically there's no way that's what this album is going to be anyway though so there's not much point in debating it :P, it's just a nice thought.

I said this in some other post but I think "Welcome to Paradise" has taken on a new meaning for Billie at least in the Trump era.   I purported that the song parallels the slums they used to live in yet they still love their home as still loving being Californians in America regardless of the fact that it is currently Trumpland.  The slums he "likes to call his home" so it makes perfect sense to re-record it in 2017 in light of that.   You guys can feel free to bask in my interpretive waxing. I know, it's beautiful right? ;)

I'm sure they have some promotion planned, but it won't involve appearances by the band as they're  out of the country. What I'm curious about is how they're going to put the 2 new songs out and whether there will be a video involved. @LaughingClock do you have any insight on this? When do you think we'll hear them? Will there be videos?

No. I know nuttin' about nuttin'.

Exactly one year ago, the music video for Still Breathing was being released on YouTube. Do you remember all the excitement for it, anticipated by that crazy Facebook live night?
The upcoming release of God's Favorite Band pushed me to re-join this community. Its announcement made me experience again those moments and it made me realize how much I missed you all.

By the way, let's stay on topic: I think that this was the right time for Green Day to release a greatest hits album. In fact, International Superhits was released right after their 6th studio album, while God's Favorite Band will be out after their 12th, which is a balanced distribution. This would make even more sense if God's Favorite Band, just like its predecessor, would contain only songs from its "era" (in this case, from American Idiot to Revolution Radio). But, generally speaking, God's Favorite Band will be more "complete" than an hypothetical "International Superhits 2", even though I'm not happy with two song choices: Oh Love, which is definitely not the best from the Trilogy (Stop When The Red Lights Flash, X-Kid or Stray Heart would have been better) and Brain Stew, because there are many songs on Insomniac deserving this place more than Brain Stew itself does.

Although the rest of the tracklist is technically ok, I would have put more emphasis on Insomniac, Nimrod and the whole Trilogy.
I worked out the average "age" of God's Favorite Band, by summing up the year of each of the 20 songs (without comprising the 2 unreleased tracks) and dividing it by 20: it's around 2001/2002. Guess what? Right in the middle of Green Day career, perfect. We just have to wait for the new songs.

It's understandable why Oh Love was chosen though. It was the only trilogy single that really did anything in the charts. Same with Brain Stew, I think it was the most successful Insomniac track too.

And welcome back. It's great seeing you here again!

The article/video was posted on November 8th and the album is apparently coming out "next month". Try next week instead.

I made a new topic for a new interview with Mike but relevant to here he does talk about GFB and the new songs. No indication that it is a cover. You would think if it was he would say.  He just describes it as “intense and energetic”

Thanks, saw that, pretty sure Mike would have said if it was a cover.

How have we not heard this new song yet?  It's gotta be coming soon.  Green Day are really on a roll lately.  I hope that they take care not to over-do it, but continue on the roll they are on.  If they aren't burned out on touring or overworked, they could keep it going with a greatest hits tour that slowly builds into a promo tour for Album 13!  I know they do a lot of hits already but backing the new hits record they could really bring in the crowds and just revel in totally selling out big shows all over the place.  It would gain attention for the new record too, and get some younger kids into their catalog.   Their latest concert was 30 songs with 11 songs that aren't hits, so they really aren't doing a hit-centric set list compared to some artists who ONLY play the hit singles.

Green Day deserve it and they should do a victory lap this time around if they are up for it.  Push the hits album, do killer shows in South America. Take some time to make Album 13 really special, keeping us satisfied with a song or two here and there.   and then dominate with the Album 13 Tour!  Play freaking 45 song sets and still leave the audience begging for more!    And enough time will have passed so you can even through in some Trilogy songs for a well rounded 4 hour show.  ;)

Interesting! I still haven't listened to the Chuck Berry song and enjoy GD covers very much so I'll be hearing something new and happy either way but if it is a new song that'll be pretty cool.

I like the way you think, haha. If they can do all that and stay alive, I'm all for it! haha. Give Springsteen a run for his money.

Make a live DVD + album, take a break, go into the studio and record a killer album, and head on a new tour, but not as big as RevRad tour. Too many shows in the states, so less ''sellouts''. I think it's enough with one leg in the U.S on bigger stadiums than small amphitheatres. Of course if there is a demand for a new leg then go ahead.

A week to go :runaround:

What is people's experience with pre-ordering stuff from the US store to Europe? Considering the shipping is usually super slow, does it arrive on time?

I was wondering that. Like does it get sent in advance or do they only put it in the post on the day it's released and then we have to wait from there?

I have only ordered from Europe store I think but even then it was erratic.  Once, I think it was AAF, I got it at least a day, if not two early (you should have heard the shrieking) and once 21CB possibly, it was the best part of a week late.  I could see that it had only been despatched in Germany on the day of release - not going to get to NE Scotland on time them is it!  Had a little email chat with Warners customer services about it, they were very upset (not).

My order status says "processing". I'm happy if it arrives until Christmas because it is my Christmas gift
