I could care less if they played Happy Birthday for 30 min. If Green Day played my back yard it would be one of the greatest days of my life, possibly surpassing the birth of my children.

HA SW! Literally the exact phrase I say after every show thinking of the setlist discussions.  At the end of the day, "they could sing Happy Birthday for every song" and I would still leave just as happy.

Lucy for us in the know, we know every show is different regardless but they still do need to start getting a little more dynamic so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor.  Sure, they are getting tour burn as we approach the end of this massive, multi-date, multi-leg tour.  People think it's just fun and easy to be a rock band that plays every night and sure, it's a lot more fun than doing accounting from 7a to 6p every day, but it's not easier.  I can't even go to two shows without destroying my voice.

One of the X factors (actually 2) of Green Day's toying success is Billie's almost uncanny ability to to play every gig with a near perfect voice and pitch (as it pertains to the albums) and Tre's ability to still play hard without any help from a back up.  At his age now, it takes getting off drugs which he has appeared to have done to a degree, drinking less (same) and general just staying in shape. I was heartened to learn that he has been on a trek to find out from his colleagues in the same point, what they did to persevere.

I would not be surprised if we see a "percussion section" open in the next tour to two.

If I had to guess, AND THIS IS JUST A GUESS, Green Day will have two to three more albums to release if everyone stays healthy and in to it.  The definite forth coming album which I believe that garage (stage) might be an historic one as we just saw the name of what is probably going to be a track off their new album.  "Fuck The People" could possibly be one of the greatest names for a song I've heard in a long time so I hope it remains.

But back on top, hell yeah, I agree with you!

Holy shit, the video of 2000....they really are a band of fucking dicks. Play a bunch of rarities to a small crowd half into your show, play a greatest hits tour for your fans who pay $100s because you’re afraid the crowd won’t be into it. Fucking. Dicks.

As I've once said. If you're on stage, when you start to play a song, there is a reaction RIGHT OFF THE BAT and you can tell in that instant (when you're a band like GD playing in front of 45-50k as in the Rose Bowl or 18-20k at some arena) and Billie has a fear of not pleasing the crowd and frankly when they play a song like Armature or something of that nature, the faces, turn more towards "what is this" (over the whole place) than "Oh yay, this"....THAT WOULD CHANGE, if they would play rarities, or songs that were hits even that are not rarities but played more often.  For example, one show please EJN, and another Novacaine, Homecoming, HS&HG and pretty soon not only will the faces change but so will the crowd as their more hardcore fan base will show up.  If you read all the positive reviews, they always act like it's the first time they did whatever thing they just did again for the 100th time this tour.

ALL THE SAID, Billie is still the modern day Elvis.  He still does it better than anyone as far as sexy showmanship and just being a modern day rockstar which is all the more infuriating.  Green Day grew up playing similar songs. Even on the 91 tours and stuff, they were still playing similar setlists but obvious more mixed up than today but not as much as you would think.  Go look at the Dookie tour setlists.  I mean even songs like WTP was a song that was on Kerplunk and also Dookie and in fact was a Sweet Children song in the first place so it's not out of nowhere but they are different than U2 and Rolling Stones because Rolling Stones and U2 don't have the majority of their fanbase look at their old hits as rarities.  Most people that become fans of Green Day today don't even really know FOD and if it were to be played would give a look.  That' like U2 playing Sunday Bloody Sunday almost and getting blank looks.  They truly need to learn to embrace the way they have generational fandom but at the same time, mix it up.  In BIAB, there is a very "give away" moment when Mike talks about how now they get more blank looks from Longview than say an AI song (but of course that was 2005) and things have changed since then.  Newer fans from then even are adults now and like the older stuff if they continued to like the band so they still play Longview, Basket Case, Letter Bomb, 2000, and many other old school hits, playing to their older base but they could have those staples, and the stapes from whatever new album and still change the list around every show and the stadiums (if they wanted it to be, and they wouldn't) could be in every state and the hardcore fans would be the ones buying up the tickets meaning a more hardcore show.

Rose Bowl was a FUCKING AMAZING show but only because it was different to see them in a stadium for a change but as much as EVERYONE loves a Green Day show and by all metrics, that show was a massive success, it could be all hardcore fans with just a couple changes and a minor amount of growing pains.  Believe me, I know how ballsy it is to say what possibly the best touring act in the world SHOULD do but they are currently more successful from a recording standpoint than U2 for example (U2 is the #1 touring band in the world) but U2 sells out every stadium almost immediately and not because they change their setlist, they have a much more production based, and broad based fan base.

Green Day should be playing to the crowd that at least SHOULD have been in that "garage".  It doesn't matter if you sell the seats to different people but selling out a show day of the onsale, instead of day of show will give you a wholly different crowd and experience.  Again, the RB show was fucking GREAT! Just saying'.

Yes.  This.  I can't think of one singer who can work a crowd like Billie.  Even a "meh" fan will leave a Green Day show feeling satisfied and as if they got their money's worth for sure, regardless of the setlist.  He is charasmatic and fun and makes the evening an EXPERIENCE, not just another concert.

It's not that special but not sure what else we could expect? For all we know they saw the awkward video of the guy who won and figured that's as deep as they needed to go. Personally I'd be over the moon just to hear Too Dumb to Die (or Do :D) and Nuclear Family.

That's exactly what I was thinking.  Also it's possible that they just went with songs they have played on this tour already or songs they could play in their sleep since they really didn't have much time to practice since coming off tour.  And I'm with you- to hear "Too Dumb to Die (or Do, as the case may be!!) and Nuclear Family would make me weak in the knees! :)

Ugh, I always wanted to know what Billie smells like, but now I'm not so sure anymore:sick:

I can attest that I stood next to him at the after party for the Nokia "New Years" show and he had just taken a shower and smelled pretty good at that particular moment. ;)

Yes, yes, yes to all the #LaughingClock and #tinamariek4 said above.  I know I am not very objective about Green Day but it cracks me up when people complain about their set lists and shows, I honestly think some of us have lost sight of how good this band are live, how good they sound, the energy and the interaction.  Billie is an awesome front man, just awesome, Mike is his right arm and does a great supporting job and Tre is amazing, I have wondered for a year or two how long they can keep up playing like they do.  I hope they keep going a long time and I think it's tremendous that their fan base is so wide, just look at photos to see the age range really getting carried away at their shows, it's really unusual but I think it brings its own problems for them.  If you go to a U2 concert, they are going to play all their old hits and the crowd will know them all and expect that, Green Day have a more mixed crowd who won't necessarily know all the old stuff, and some who will only want the old stuff, that makes it really tricky to please everyone.  Just enjoy  :D

it's exciting that fuck these people might be (or definitely is? still not clear on that) a new song but at the same time i can't help but internally cringe at the name :P

half of me is really excited by the thought of a new album and the other half of me wants them to focus on rev rad for awhile longer! it's still only been a year since it was released and i don't think we've even heard all of it live yet.

Oh I think they'll focus on revrad for a while still, I mean they just have a knack of playing unreleased songs randomly all the time. But I am very curious to hear fuck these people, I wonder if a video will surface anytime soon. (Unless cameras were not allowed in there, then nevermind haha)

I'm sure it was said here earlier, but you'd think the sponsors would want to promote it and themselves a bit. They should at least release a song or two via KROQ or something, although of course Rev Rad will be on top of that list lol :fuckyou:

It everyone actually so lame or were they asked not to record/talk about the new song? What the fuck, seriously. If Green Day premiered a song in my garage I'd be screaming.

The talk of locking up phones etc in Cuatro comes to mind... I wouldn't be surprised if they were told to keep quiet :ermm:

At the same time I can't believe no one would break the rule eventually. We got (crappy) recordings in 2011 and I'll be surprised if nothing comes up this time :toocool:
