With everything going on in the world right now it would be the perfect time to release Troubled Times as a new single. I think it could be a big hit.

I finally watched the video after Green Day tweeted out the link. It's...interesting. I mean considering everything that's going on I think it's effective at making you face the ugliness that's going on. It was hard to look away from some of those images. Though I did giggle when Billie was spinning around his phone for the "turning" bit of the song. Amateur skills at work

I know there's a no download link policy, but for those that got a chance to click on it, was there anything to suggest a username that uploaded it on dropbox?

All I see it saying is dropboxuser.com - Saturday

OMG Has anyone else seen this before?  I can't believe it, is this is real?

Well Billie, great to see you on GDC finally. We knew you were lurking around here.

PS- Andres- track down his activity pronto and see if he saw my posts about KFAD. Billie, it was just all in good fun...but seriously, a little 80/ Pasalacqua/ One of My Lies/ Dissapearing Boy as a replacement wouldn't be bad as a substitute!

I got an idea tonight that I really want to share here. It would explain why the video was released as a kind of an unknown artist piece of art (while we all know by now Billie is atleast one of the authors).

What if the video was released as subversive art? I didn't find any good definition in english of what is subversive art. But, you can read the article about subversion on Wikipedia which is close enough: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subversion

Anyway, in french, the definition of subversive art is the creation of a piece of art of any type that will go against the government and/or anything that is established as or represents a society. It will shock the people to the point where they will think/reconsider their values and society. This kind of art normally shows the bad side of a society. And the piece of art is usually released to the public in the mainstream (online or a very crownded street for examples) in a anonymous way and without authorization (like don't ask for permission to post it or unauthorized use of material). I don't know if I explained it well, but I hope you understand what subversive art is. (For those who understand french, here the link to the definition: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_subversif)

So, thinking about the video we have here, it is subversive art. It goes against society by showing the bad side of it. It was released in a weird way online, but Green Day team seems to try to promote it without really officially promoting it (do I make sens?) so as many people can see it and talk about it. Also, it was made by an «unknown» artist (well, unofficially Billie might be behind all this). And there was the unauthorized use of a lot of images in the video.

To me, everything points to a tentative of subversive art.

The offical twitter decided we should now check it out :tired:

Okay, they shared it on Facebook and Twitter now, so tomorrow it would be time for Billie to do an Instagram live and reveal himself as BillnTed. 🤔

Interesting way of looking at it, I think it fits the description.

True! "Check out THIS video", instead of 'our video', as if they just found it online, lol.

Little piece of info for you guys. I watched the video again last night, five times, focusing on each part separately. The final time I focused on Billie himself and was shocked to realise I recognised the location he was walking around in. It is Glendalough Co. Wicklow, Ireland. He obviously filmed it when he was over here. For those unfamiliar with it one simple way to distinguish it from other graveyards is even just look out for the round tower which is visible at one point in the video. Glendalough isn't just a graveyard, it's a monastic settlement with many churches (many in ruins), cathedrals, graveyards, a round tower and other features dating back to 1185 and set in beautiful national parks. You guys may remember this picture of Billie from Glendalough

This obviously means this was a planned video as he filmed it some months ago. On a personal note I'm extremely happy that he filmed in a place that holds so much meaning to me as it's one of the first places I worked.

This video is so bizarre, doesn't seem like good enough to be like an actual music video, but they've already released a lyric video. Not to mention forever now is supposed to be the new single

I don't think so.It was getting a new video and Somewhere Now is the new UK single

Huh, interesting! That must be really cool to have that connection :D

Suppose it could be that he filmed it out of boredom or just as "something for later"  and it felt pressing/like the time was right to put totgether a video now. I mean, the lyric video felt very relevant at the time yet here we are seven months down the line and things are even more fucked up. It works extremely well along with his heartfelt, spontaneous instagram post.

Makes sense that it was filmed earlier as you can't just throw something like this together in a day.

As far as subversive art goes, it isn't truly anonymous. If they wanted to do that then he wouldn't have been in the video at all, just music and images like the lyric video. Then we really would have been wondering where it came from and who made it.

I understand your point of view. Billie included himself in the video, but he never said anything about it. Clearly, he is in part the author because of the way he filmed himself, but he showed no signs that he pretends to be the author since the video appeared. For somebody who doesn't know GD or Billie, it just appears there is a guy doing lipsing on a song surrounded by disturbing images.

Let's add some more layers on this mistery... We on Green Day Brasil received the link for this video through a direct message on our fanpage, nothing unusual, but the person who sent us this has no activity on his profile, no pictures, nothing, he just sent us the link for this thread and a download link on dropbox, we replied and he never got our messages

What's the guy's username on your site - and did he also register in 2013 like @BillnTed? We will probably never find out who it is, but speculation is fun:lol: #conspiracy

Okay sleuths -- Jay Jameson.  What could it mean? :sherlock: J and J for Joey and Jakob?

Why couldn't he have used something obvious like Fink?

Hmm, maybe as subversive as a video including Billie can be at least.

It Was on Facebbok, and the only info i got on his profile is that he likes/follows the Green day official page. This is the guy - https://www.facebook.com/jay.jameson.3192

Jay Jameson is the name of a fictional character in the Marvel Universe and it is mostly a not very known character. It is only known that he is married to aunt May in the Ultimate Spiderman serie.

Now this is really weird... it seems someone used the name to go anonymous. Does someone know if Billie or someone closes to him is a fan of Spiderman?

Oh my god this whole thing.

Billie wore a Green Lantern shirt in the Rocky videos and Jakob had a Watchmen book on the live stream, I'm sure it's safe to say they're into comics
