I really agree with you for the most part. But one way to keep a civil flow of conversation is to not throw out word bombs, or purposefully inflammatory and offensive posts aimed at getting a strong emotional reaction. Again, that's what mods are for.

I am not defending Joey's behavior. What I am saying is that calling him a pedophile is not only not appropriate to the situation, but downright offensive.  It's misuse of a word and it's true meaning, and it's defamatory. It should be prohibited in this context on this forum. 

We allowed discussion of Joey on the site because he's in a band (SWMRS) and because there were articles about him because of the Lydia Knight situation. And that discussion was in General Chat, where we discuss non Green Day related things. We have never allowed his social media posts that have nothing to do with Green Day to be discussed in this thread, and the rules on not speculating about Green Day's personal lives or discussing their family members out of the context of anything to do with the band apply to him the same as anyone else. The only discussions about him of that description that have been allowed have been because of stuff he's done as a public figure.

There's no comparison with Brittney here. She isn't a public figure, she just happens to be related to a band member. There's no more reason to be discussing her non Green Day related instagram posts than there would be if an uncle of Tre's or cousin of Billie's posted some dumb shit. Even if she started a band that was popular enough to have fans here and started getting articles written about her/became a public figure, this thread STILL wouldn't be the place to discuss her. Because she isn't a member of Green Day.

I agree with you that pedophile isn't the correct word to use (it's some hyperbole for sure) but there's no particular reason why a public figure can't be mentioned negatively on this site. And Billie did post a picture of him. However as I said, there doesn't need to be continued discussion about him in this thread, because it really has nothing to do with Green Day.

I mean not really. This thread (and ones before it) has always been strictly for Green Day posted or Green Day containing Instagram posts. And speculating about the band members personal lives and having threads or discussions about their family members separately from anything to do with the band has never been allowed. Respecting the band members personal lives has always been a big thing, it already was when I joined 13 years ago.

So if Billie posts pics of Joey and someone on here calls him a pedophile on this thread, it's fine? And if it's not fine, why wasn't it called out? Also, it's ridiculous to continue calling him a public figure. His band is defunct and he has no social media presence. If anything, he's avoiding the public eye. But Billie should be able to post pics of him without this term continuing to come up. In the same vein, if Mike posts pics of Brit, that would make her fair game as well wouldn't it? I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I'm really not. But to me this is just ridiculous. By the way, Brit owns and promotes several businesses, and charities. So she is very much a public figure. She is also basically an antivax crusader online.. Let's at least have some consistency in respecting family members' privacy.

Yes I'm totally aware. What I haven't gotten an answer to is whether people are going to continue to be allowed to call Billie's son a pedophile ON THIS THREAD each time he posts a picture of his family. I don't think it's an unreasonable request to not allow that to continue.

Oh you're right. Billie made some huge mistakes about substances even as recently as within the last couple of years. However, we're not privy to his counseling sessions, details of the back story, what he went through while he knowingly used drugs that harmed his body, what all the exact truths are, how remorseful he is, and whether sources are 100% reliable. So it's not our place to be judge and jury. Life isn't black and white. Oh wait....

I just had to do what I didn't want to do and report this conversation because you all won't stop this conversation after being repeatedly asked to by mods. There is a Joey thread. Take this there. Some of us are on this site because we actually want to talk about Green Day. Weren't you the one who accused me way back when of having too strong of reactions to differing opinions? Well I am not the one taking thread off topic for pages yelling at people because they don't agree with you over something we have discussed ad nauseum. You flying into a rage every time someone says something you don't agree with is very concerning and doesn't look healthy. 

OK, maybe Joey does not meet the textbook definition of a pedophile because I am guessing his primary sexual orientation is not toward pre-pubescent children. But guess what? Most of the people who sexually abuse children do not meet the clinical definition of pedophiles either. Most child sex crimes are crimes of opportunity. It's generally much easier to control and exploit kids than it is adults. At any rate, Joey had an illegal sexual relationship with a person under 18. If you are looking for the legal statute, it's called statutory rape. He's lucky Lydia didn't press charges. She is not obligated to. She probably didn't because she didn't want to go through what is going on on this site. But that relationship is not in dispute, and that's where the crime is, so the rest of the details don't even really matter. Joey could have made things a lot better by acknowledging that he did something very wrong and taking responsibility and demonstrating some learning. He decided to give a half-ass statement and then disappear. He cancelled himself. There is a path for him to learn and move past this but he has yet to take it. The most thoughtful and nuanced statements are coming from his bandmates now when they should be coming from him. 

Everyone makes mistakes. This is a big one to say the least. It's about how you learn and grow from them. Joey has yet to show that. I am not sure what other people's mistakes have to do with this one. The logical fallacies and "whataboutism" here is astounding. Also, I have never heard of Tre having sex with children when he himself was an adult, so if you don't have proof to back that up, then congratulations, you just committed libel.

You're absolutely right. We don't have to focus on Joey. So some people on here need to fucking stop calling him a pedophile every time he or his picture comes up, because it leads to this very conversation.
