Popular Post Beerjeezus
Back in the good old days when Billie had instagram... (I also absolutely hate the fact that he's wearing a jacket that looks just like one that I've had for years, except mine is mustard yellow. Now he's making me feel paranoid that I dress like a middle aged man, but in fact the old guy dresses like me.) 2

It doesn't really work that way though. The vaccine supply is controlled by the government. The feds allocate to the states, and then to register for an appointment to get a vaccine through an obnoxious registration process with your state health department. Then when you have your appointment, you go to either a state-run or state-contracted site to get the vaccine. Often you have to prove that you meet the age or health condition requirement (they don't always just take your word for it). It is a very cumbersome process and this is what was slowing down the vaccinations rates very early in the rollout. It's getting better since the vaccine supply increased under Biden and he pushed for it to be open to more people. So it is basically impossible to get a vaccine you are not eligible for. The bigger problem is people who are eligible not being able to access vaccination. There have been a few cases where vaccines were given to anyone because the vaccine was about to expire. And there were also doctors who were fired for doing that (which is asinine in my opinion). I fully agree with prioritizing the most vulnerable, but there has been so much fighting over who "deserves" a vaccine that people are literally dying while the powers-that-be try to figure out who is "deserving." And of all the horrible things that the privileged do, getting a vaccine before their turn would hardly be one of them. Anyone who is vaccinated just gets us closer to herd immunity; vaccination helps others just as much (if not more so) than the vaccinated individual. My state has been super strict, really just going by ages starting with 75 and up and then working down in five-year increments. Just recently they opened up to people with a few very serious diseases (for example, I have mild asthma and I am not eligible) and also to K-12 teachers and staff (and I am still not eligible because I am a college instructor). Also it was a disaster trying to get an appointment at first but it has gotten better. Also, this begs the question of just how much does one have to smoke to be considered a smoker? How does one prove they smoke? I have never smoked anything in my life, but could I buy a pack, show up at the vaccine place, light one cigarette, say I'm a smoker, and get a shot LOL? Also, by this logic, are Green Day really smokers? Billie lights some cigarettes as part of his stage show, but do we know if he is actually a regular smoker in his "real life"? They just ask if you're a smoker when you fill out the form, you say yes and you get an appointment if one is available. The 1a group is very broad, from the old and very sick to the relatively healthy of any age with any of a number of conditions (smoking, BMI, etc.). It's a mess though because it means pretty young healthy people can get ahead of many who really need it and are still fighting for spots. Anyway, not to get off topic but if California allows shots for smokers then yes, these guys are all smokers of one kind or another regardless of what or how much. But they may not do it that way. I mean, with legal weed most of California are smokers.

I also know people including some celebrities have used their privilege to jump the queue. Take that as a word of perfectly plausible gossip. Must be cool to get vaccinated thanks to being a smoker. I’d buy some nice tobacco just for that.

Well, I was just referring to what has been going on in my own state, where for a long time it was damn near impossible to get a shot even if you were eligible. Apparently things are a lot more lax in other states. Damn, I wish I lived in a state where I could buy a pack of cigarettes just to get a shot LOL. I wouldn’t consider myself a smoker, but I occasionally do smoke so I guess if I could apply for a vaccine thanks to it, it would be good for something once in a lifetime. I have been trying to figure out how to say this without sounding preachy LOL. You really shouldn't smoke. Believe it or not, I care about you and would like to see your obnoxious ass stay around for a while. 🤣 I never understood casual smoker people who are just like, "I think I'll just randomly smoke this cigarette for no apparent reason." Like, addiction I get. It's very hard to quit something that your body has become dependent on. But I don't get people choosing to put something toxic in their body just because...they feel like it? Can you help me understand?

Can you help me understand? Thanks! I actually wouldn’t mind staying around for a bit longer Yeah I totally get what you mean! I used to have the same view, but since I’ve dabbled in smoking myself, I think it’s the social aspect of it. When I smoke, it’s usually shisha, which is something I wouldn’t just do at home on my own, but it’s pretty nice while chatting with friends when someone brings it. Or it’s weed and there I actually prefer edibles, but again, if it comes to smoking it in a social situation, I don’t mind. And then I’ve managed to make a really good deal on otherwise extremely expensive Cuban cigars, so I tried them out, because I figured it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I actually enjoyed the smell and taste... same goes for pipe smoking. I’ve done that once or twice and it was good. That said, I insist that store-bought cigarettes are disgusting. That said no. 2, even though I find smoking kind of enjoyable, I don’t have any desire to do it more often than once a few weeks/month. I’m aware of it being unhealthy as hell, so that takes away from the fun, plus I just don’t think about doing it unless I’m having a night out. Which reminds me that a couple months ago one cute guy offered to roll me a cigarette and I was like “oh thanks i don’t smoke” because I smoked smth the night before that and I didn’t want to overindulge and that’s how I’ve missed my opportunity to go out and talk to him

I honestly don't know what shisha is. Is that anything like hash? 🤣And yeah, if you are gonna consume pot, then edibles would be a healthier way to go (just make sure you know the potency of what you're eating). Damn, I probably would have taken that cig from that cute guy and I don't even smoke at all. 🤣

Thanks for sharing this! The estimated number of people to need shots in that phase is huge, 18 million of the ~40 million in the state. You also have to have people trained in giving shots to give them plus the nurses/paramedics to do the post-shot 20 minute evaluation to make sure you aren't having any reactions that need medical attention.
