If it was a blanket "fuck positivity" then yeah but it's not, it's in the context of them placing positivity as separate to and possibly in opposition to what he suggested implying that what he said was negative. It's fuck the type of positivity that means just being nice and not saying anything and not getting anything done, or something along those lines, not a blanket anti positivity statement.

It was pretty short and sweet.

Fuck a positive message

The reason it's not in quotations is because he technically said "Fuck a position message" but anyway, anything else you draw from that are your own conclusions such as, "It's fuck the type of positivity that means just being nice and not saying anything and not getting anything done". He never said that. People can "get things done" without spitting anger, pissing people off, cussing, swearing, being offensive, being dirty and smashing glass.

Positivity as it manifests today can actually get really tiring. So many people are "thankful" and "blessed" and eager to share messages of positivity without considering what they really even mean, or whether they really mean them. It can stop people expressing negative emotions, whether they're about politics or their own lives and that's dangerous. Without wanting to sound like an anti-social media mum, it does exacerbate that because there's a need to present our lives as more positive than they really are, especially for (and because of) celebrities. I think that's just what Billie means - fuck feeling like it's bad to be angry and go crazy. He's said before that he's more inspired by negativity than positivity, so it's not a big surprise.

Personally, I definitely don't want to hear any songs telling me I'll feel better if I look at pictures of puppies :P

If  we were just talking about the oodles of pointless posts with pictures online  of silly crap with the hashtags "thankful" and "blessed" all over them (which some of the GD wives are terribly fond of I must say) then yes I agree that is tiresome. However one persons post about being thankful for flowers, dogs, sunlight or food shouldn't prevent a teenager/adult from expressing their negative emotions and from what I've seen on social media it has not. Regardless of any of this it's not even the topic of discussion because the person who posted to Billie wasn't taking about puppy songs or random posts online and why he should post more of them, it was asking what about spreading more positivity too as in what about encouraging a bit of a positive attitude or activities among all the negative stuff you've just encouraged people to do as well?  "Spit your anger. Piss people off. Cuss . Swear. Be offensive. Be dirty. Smash glass". That's hardly attitude traits or behaviour that needs to be encouraged regardless of how many people post boring stuff online and to respond with fuck positivity can only mean fuck encouraging positivity because that's what the person suggested. He's not saying fuck puppy posts or puppy songs or anything else random

Well puppy posts aside, there's still an unreasonable expectation on many people to be positive and grateful for what they have. Maybe it doesn't prevent everyone from expressing their negative emotions or speaking up, but it does affect some. It didn't occur to me that Billie was literally encouraging people to go smashing windows, just to reject that expectation to be constantly positive, or to be anything else for that matter and to speak up creatively. I'm sure you still interpret it differently though so I guess we'll agree to disagree - no point going in circles without him to elaborate.

I think some people are over analyzing what Billie is saying. It’s as simple as this: what the hell happened to protest rock? It’s completely gone, and it’s sad. The only place you find it now is in hip hop. I admire that some hip hop artists, like Kendrick Lamar, speak the truth with no concern for niceties or possibly offending someone. That’s what we need again in rock bands, and we need it from the millennial and post-millennial generation. I think it’s very encouraging to read the comments in Billie’s post and see how many young people are telling Billie that he is their inspiration, that they’re starting a rock band or learning to play a guitar. More rock musicians need to be inspiring young musicians to take up the cause and to not be afraid of stepping on toes.

People tell Billie he's their "inspiration" in every single post regardless of the content of the post. Again you are interpreting Billie's post as you wish to. He didn't suggest being like Kendrick Lamar or speak the truth with "no concern for niceties or possibly offending someone". He specifically said "Spit your anger. Piss people off. Cuss . Swear. Be offensive. Be dirty. Smash glass". So what? Be offensive for the sake of it? Be violent for the sake of it? What does violence achieve anyway. And even if we can all get behind some violence and being offensive here and there why is he so against a bit of positivity mixed in among all that? That's the only issue here. That's a shitty attitude. To encourage nothing but the negativity.

With Philip Bond (Canadian actor) yesterday in NYC.

Philippe isn't an actor. He is a humorist, mostly as a stand-up comedian and sometimes as a tv host. He won several awards for his work. And he is a GD fan. He was in the crowd at the GD concert back in March at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Thanks. When I googled him it came up as "TV actor". I was wondering why his picture was liked by about 12000 French speaking Canadians gushing more about him than Billie

This post is late, but did anyone else see that like Billie, Bono also spoke about the lack of anger in rock music? I just had a thought that what Billie wrote might have been related to what Bono said.

Can you post Bono’s statement?

I can't believe you counted how many French speaking Canadians liked the photo.

I assume this is your attempt at humour?
