I saw the making of Broadway Idiot on Hbo, or some channel that I recorded it from.

Before Christmas, I was on Amazon shopping and saw Broadway Idiot. So I bought it for myself thinking it was  a recording of the actual play. It didn't say it wasn't , and the cover just said , greenday meets broadway with billie joe Armstrong ect, ect....

Well just popped it in and it of course it's not a recording of the play ( I must be an idiot) and although alittle disappointed, ( only cause I've seen it already ) I think there are some extra scenes and it's very enjoyable anyway :)      Does a recording of the actual broadway play exist?   I would of loved to have been able to see it live.

Broadway Idiot is specifically about the conception of the musical. In my opinion, it's the best Green Day-focused documentary out there, at least about their post-Dookie period.

There are some low quality ones on YouTube, but they evidently don't do the musical performance justice. Regarding seeing it live, it's coming to Australia this year. There'll be more reboots and tours, not sure about Broadway though.

There is no official release of the musical aside from the soundtrack, sadly. I'm kind of puzzled that it never even got a pro-shot and DVD release or at least digital for IN or something.

please use this thread for questions like this in the future, though.

Some of the performances were recorded, though. The footage was used in BI. I think it's possible that the whole thing will be released one day.

I have a video of a performance with the original cast, filmed somewhere from above. Hmu if you want it :) The quality is not the best and you don't see everything though.

(To be clear: I didn't film it, I've never seen the musical apart from this video. It was sent to me)

The fact that they haven't released any footage yet convinces me of the fact that they want to keep the tour running for another theater runs.

Agreed. They will only release it when the tour is over/ before a second run years later.

I really want a continental Idiot tour. It's one of the two musicals I'm dying to see at least once (the other being Hamilton).

Me too. I'm not into musicals but I'd go see AI if it came here.

Ok, sorry. I thought this was like a general greenday thread.

No problem. The Q&A Thread is used for answering questions which can be easily answered, like yours :)

So very nice of you to offer, but I think I'll wait to see if I can see it live sometime.

I think also, with talk again of a film, they will want to hold back on releasing this footage and cut interest in the film, even though I think there is uncertainty about how close the film will be to the musical. I'm not a musical fan but I've seen it twice and it's fantastic, sadly not seen it with BJ.

Good point. I haven't seen the musical (yet), but I'm really dying to see it. I think the movie will differ from the musical due to the change of medium, but I'm confident HBO can produce a satisfying film that honors the record.
