Well, we are here on tunings, so, instead of standard, half-step down and drop D,are there any more tunings Green Day plays in?

Some songs on 1,039/etc. are tuned two steps down. Paper Lanterns is one I think.

Like, whole step? D tuning?

Actually some songs on 1,039/etc (Dry Ice, Disappearing Boy, Going to Pasalacqua,...) are almost 1/2 step down, it's actually "1/4" step down, I read somewhere it was because the band didn't have guitar tuner, they tuned their instruments listening to each other

How the heck is "Whatsername" played in Drop D? Every guitar part that I play on that is standard tuning.

So Billie Joe can play the D chord one octave below, just like he would do with an E chord in standard tuning

1/4 step tuning is used by AC/DC also...

I didn't know about that, and didn't say otherwise :) but I just explained why Green Day used that tuning

I know, I was just saying a fun fact nobody cares about.

Isn't Restless Heart Syndrome in D tuning too?

Standard, or even half-step down.

Pretty sure it is standard tuning, but 1/2 step down would have maybe helped Billie Joe to reach the highest notes more easily :P

What the hell does it say under Whatsername?

2aeo1g9.jpg

Well, his statement when the song Amanda came out is that he finally "named" Whatsername, but I don't know if that necessarily looks like "Amanda" under the tape, and I doubt Amanda is actually her name — I think the song was just yet another song about her, with a symbolic name included. But it's possible that's what it says.

Either way, I absolutely adore the American Idiot lyric booklet. His handwriting and the subtle hints of the storyline later included in the musical are wonderful!

For those of us that have the physical copy of this- it's a lot easier to see what's underneath

_SERNA

The S is behind the A in Whatsername.

It probably says part of "Whatsername", but was covered up and re-written just for the look of it.

It looks like the name of the person it is actually about but they covered it up with something different.

Nah, doesn't look anything like "Queen Latifah" to me.

They have a 21st Century Breakdown Tour Program up on GD.com, does anybody know what's in it? http://greenday.shop.bravadousa.com/Dept.aspx?cp=16464_39261&sort&page=0

That looks like the tour program I bought at a Green Day show in 2009  It's a simple book with pictures on each page, sometimes with a quote on it. On that picture on the website the top picture is the front of the book, and the bottom two pics are two examples of what you'll find inside.

How many performances are there with Billie playing guitar on St Jimmy live?

I don't believe he's ever played guitar on it. It's also been Jason White and Mike Pelino/Jeff Matika.
