green day is
That's generally how demos are done, and I have ears. Demos aren't "generally" done any way, they're for getting ideas down on tape. They're done however the artist feels like doing them.

Yeah but it's pretty obvious from listening to them that they're done live. Overdubbing wouldn't sound like that, you can tell there's bleed between the tracks. There's a possibility that the vocals were overdubbed, but it seems very unlikely knowing how the Trilogy was recorded, the vibe they were going for, and the slight tempo changes when Tre speeds up. There are a couple of tracks where a third guitar comes in, though, and they're clearly overdubs.
Todd
All the video teasers (stray heart, fell for you, makeout party, etc) were in studio, so it makes sense they recorded video, released the audio as Demolicious, but there's still video to go with these demos which they used in the teasers
Punkfreak1414
Thanks it all makes more sense. Btw someone mentioned even if it was track by track recording it doesn't mean you still wouldn't hear the talking at the end? How? I don't get how you would hear "tre cool is in the house!" If it was track by track.

If it was track by track. You could still hear those things because the microphones pick everything up. But if it was track by track the band wouldn't all be in the room at the same time, and there's clearly more than one of them on some songs.
Punkfreak1414
Oh okay. And 2 more things lmao sorry for all the questions but at what parts of what song do you hear tre speed up? And how do you know if there's bleed? I know what it means but how do you spot it?

What do you mean how? If someone talks the microphone will pick it up. But if it were track by track the band wouldn't all be in the room at the same time Why not? It's a demo, they can be wherever they want.

Spike
If you say so. Don't make me pull out my "I have a good amount of studio experience" card
green day is
Don't make me pull out my "I have a good amount of studio experience" card But it's a demo. So it doesn't matter. My only qualm is that you've already pointed out the bleed and what-not, which is solid and reason enough, but then you're going all "demos are like this" and "demos aren't like this" but they're demos. Demos don't have rules. As long as the song's recorded, a demo's been made.

Maybe I should have clarified, that from what I know about Green Day specifically, as well as bands of a similar style, they tend to record demos live in the studio. Obviously there's the footage of Missing You from Cuatro where it's just Billie overdubbing everything, but we have plenty of studio videos as evidence too. alienlifeform
no idea but a lot of record stores that participated to the RSD put what they had left on their website. go check the thread about demolicious and ask what websites people got theirs. thanks
Jon Benjamin
Some was overdubbed hell, Oh Love was even pieced together, I think the intro is what he's recording when he plays it on Cuatro with a hollow body and a mic stand then when the band comes in it sounds live

Punkfreak1414
I think the songs that were 100% live (besides MAYBE vocals) were: Let yourself go Stray heart Oh Love State of shock And maybe rusty james The rest of the songs sound like they were either track by track or they played live but over dubbed some things. Fuzz
King for a Day. Are the lyrics "everything nice wasn't made for only girls" or "everything nice wasn't meant for only girls?" I hear "meant", and it makes more sense. But every lyric site says 'made'.
Spike
King for a Day. Are the lyrics "everything nice wasn't made for only girls" or "everything nice wasn't meant for only girls?" I hear "meant", and it makes more sense. But every lyric site says 'made'. I've always thought it was meant, too. The trouble with lyric sites is that no one bothers to correct them, and a lot of the time if they end up on one they end up on all the others too, which can account for consistent wrongness. Iva
I've been singing "meant" for almost seventeen years now, I'd hate to be wrong.
