Anyone know what Billie is saying in the middle of Paper Lanterns during "Jaded in Chicago", and does it mean anything?

I think it's just gibberish, but the part at the end sounds like "I think not."

Maybe I could've made it's own topic but whatever.

As we all know, Green Day did it's first albums in Eb tuning (or even D, i don't remember). However, since 21CB Era they have played some songs from Dookie in E Standard (Basket Case, She, Welcome to Paradise, etc). Now I wonder do they still play some songs in E Standard or have they stopped it? And what songs they have played in E Standard (originally recorded D/Eb)?

This question is probably best suited for this thread.

I haven't heard them play anything from Kerplunk, Dookie, or Insomniac in standard live except when they played Basket Case in standard that one time as part of an encore for a performance of the American Idiot musical. However, i do know they've played Castaway in E despite being in Eb and songs from Nimrod in Eb despite being in E, this is probably because they don't feel like changing guitars more than twice (to switch from E tuned guitars to Eb tuned ones for their earlier stuff and then back to their E tuned guitars for the rest of the show) so they just play these songs in this tuning.

Here's something I've been wondering for a while, is Brain Stew a ripoff of 25 Or 6 To 4 by Chicago?

Hello everyone, I'm trying to find back a song that Green Day co-wrote with a solo musician so it's not labelled as a Green Day song. If I remember correctly they recorded it around the American Idiot era after some jams and it features Billie Joe as backing vocals. I know that's very little information but if anyone knows that would be great haha

I think the only reason they change/mess with the tunnings is making interesting to play them. The change comes from the very early days. The first eps are in D standard, the first LP are in E standard and Kerplunk are in something close to a Eb tunning but is not exactly that. Even so, they did shows in E standard in 93, and some in D in 92.

In 98 they did Dominated Love Slave in E standard

In the 2000 they played Brat in standard several times and Blood, sex and booze in Eb

In 2001, Castaway had a fixed slot in the setlist and it was played in E tunning

Around 2009, BJ played several song with changed keys, for various reasons, like it was easier to play with open chords, or the guitar on hand was in different tunning. Examples would be Give me novacaine, No Pride or Tight wad hill.

2010 had a lot of songs played with Blue since they had a old school section with only Eb instruments. Songs like Platypus, Scattered or Waiting were played with Blue.

In the trilogy era, they had a crush with sounding garage-y so they played in standard a lot. Basket Case, Longview, Hitchin', Welcome to Paradise and Burnout were played half step up

In revrad, they used to stick more to the original tunnings, but they were playing a modified version of waiting where they put the song half step up so it can be played with open chords. Also the Les Paul Jr used by BJ in American Idiot and Jesus of Suburbia is on Eb, so he can play them with open chords and reach a lower Eb chord that is present in both songs, creating a different mixing of the guitar sounds.

Thank you so much with detailed answer! I was just wondering this topic because Welcome to Paradise and She really sounds fucking awesome in E Standard tuning :P

Thanks but unfortunately it's not that one ^^ The song was more alternative and had a heavier/darker sound.

Great post except for one thing, they never played Hitchin A Ride a half step up, it was originally recorded in E but they've been playing it almost exclusively in Eb since Warning so it appears as if they're playing it a half step up when they play it in standard live but that's not the case.

I know. I just didn't want go longer that I did  Hitchin' has been played a lot more in Eb than E, so that is a novelty. In their last southamerican tour, they changed instruments when played old school songs, so Hitchin got played in E again

Who is the girl on the cover of the 39/Smooth cover?

I don’t think anyone knows, it looks like Adrienne but I think it’s too early and supposed to not be her.

Definitely not Adrienne considering the album was released before Green Day ever toured Minnesota :)

She's called Dia, and was a friend of Jim Lindberg from Pennywise.

Why is the final track on 39/Smooth called The Judge's Daughter, it never says anything about one of the girl's parents being a judge.

It was written for/about a girl Billie crushed on who’s father was a judge.

I must have missed that one. Thanks! I go scrounging for pictures when there’s no Green Day news and I’m so so bored.
