That's not variety. I don't think we need a rock opera to have amazing music.

Yes it is.

And also I never said that...

Variety is not doing the same thing over and over again. That's the opposite of variety. They shouldn't keep going back to a rock opera because they've already done it.

Well then I guess by your definition Green Day is pretty stale. I'd hate to have that view.

Lots of people would be happy to have them do one again. As said even Billie wants to.

That's not my view at all as I don't think any of their albums are just repeats of the last one. It's one of the things I like. I think two rock operas is plenty without it just looking like a gimmick.

Hey guys, this isn't strictly Green Day-related, except in the way that I'm pretty sure some of you here did this with Green Day concerts...

So, I have a pretty solid full concert video of a local band I love and would like to make a bootleg CD, but I have no idea how to transform a video into a mp3 file and then into individual tracks, especially without losing much quality. Could anyone possibly help me?

Edit; nevermind, figured it out, gonna take a lot of work tho :D

Do Mike and Tre not like doing lead vocals?

I don't think it's so much a case of not liking it, if they didn't like it they wouldn't have done it at all, surely. But Billie's always been the lead singer and anything more than the occasional change wouldn't really make sense, especially when he's the lyricist and his lyrics are so personal. That said, Mike sings so much on Dookie and his vocals are so high in the mix he's more like a co-lead singer than a backing singer on that album.

Personally I would like to see one song from Mike and Tre per album.

@Spike one of the reasons I asked whether they dislike it is that Mike in particular seems to not like doing it live. Whenever they did Homecoming, it was always him and Billie with equal intensity for Nobody Likes You, instead of just Mike like on the album. They also rarely play that song, along with American Eulogy.

It sucks they don't do Homecoming to often. Having said that, it's a bitch to perform. Fun to play but singing that whole middle part requires a lot of effort.

Another couple of questions of mine:

* Has Green Day ever performed DUI live?

* Are there any lesser known B-sides or rare songs (that have good sound quality) I should know about?

If I'm honest I always feel Mikes voice sounds really strained when he sings solo parts. He has a great backing voice but on it's own falls flat.

some of the links may need to be reuploaded. Just post in the thread if you need them, and I should be able to upload them on Friday :)

I can agree somewhat. I like what he does in Homecoming and American Eulogy, but I've definitely heard songs both live and on albums where he doesn't sound great. Perhaps it's my optimism, but I believe it's because he doesn't practice singing lead parts enough. I think he's just so used to backing.

Do you have an HQ link to the accoustic version of Life During Wartime by Pinhead Gunpowder? I didn't see it in there, maybe I was in the wrong place.

Does anyone know why the fan club is called Idiot Nation?  Originally I thought it was because of American Idiot until I saw a video from the Nimrod or Warning era when it was the Idiot Club.  Why Idiot?
