Green Day Q&A Thread

This would sound like a dumb question, but I don't have much knowledge about Green Day's fan clubs and all.

GDA I assume is Green Day Authority, it is a fan site/forum like this one or it is the official forum? The Idiot fan club and GDA are the same thing or its different?

GDC is the forum to GDA - made by fans and for free.

The Idiot Nation fanclub is the "official" one you have to pay 20$ a year for and the forum you can access there is a rip off of GDC and not really worth visiting because it's DEAD :D

So GDA is basically the main site and GDC is the forum of it?

I am a nosy person but I also like how things work around, some people hate me for it, but as a lot of work has gone down in this forum and it is really cool around here, what is the history of it? like who created it? when was it created and how things have changed on here over the years?

There's a nice little history of GDA here (and not mentioned there but GDC's been around in addition to it since 2004)

http://www.greendayauthority.com/site/about.php

If there's more you'd like to know Andres or Lone would indeed be the people to ask

Does anyone know why they spelled novocaine as 'novacaine' in Give Me Novacaine? I've been wondering this for some time now.

Let me know if you want to know something else! Here's a couple additional things I remember us bringing up in the past.

The following is a post from August of 2013 by Andres from this thread talking about the history of the sites

Reading this thread has been fun. I like that we all ended up here.

Before GDC was even a site there was the "Green Day Authority Forum" which had like 200-300 members. That was the first place I joined at the behest of one of the members, Lukey, who told me I should be there. I was terrified of everyone. Joey was a mod there back then.

I think the first site I got into was GreenDayVideos.net. I'm also pretty sure it had the same layout as it does now. Downloading Green Day videos was the first thing that really interested me, then I remember seeing a link there to GDA for news, and links on GDA to other sites like GSB. I used to check GDA every day for like 8 months. Around April 2004 I noticed they hadn't updated for almost a month, so I asked if I could help, I lied that I knew HTML, and the rest is history.

After I joined the team, I wanted to start doing our own video downloads. Courtney told me if I paid for the servers I could, so that's how I became an owner. Then later that year we decided to start GDC as a seperate thing from GDA so we could sort of become "the" community since there were a lot of other Green Day news sites already - but not really a central community, every other forum was tied to a news site. Right before we opened GDC, GDA wasn't really the most popular Green Day site. Obviously GD.com trumped everyone, GreenDay.net were beating us, and we were usually closer to GSB in terms of daily traffic, and I think even billie-joe.com was around our daily numbers then. So we wanted GDC to be able to grow on its own. We got lucky that over the next 12 months GDA became a behemoth and trumped all other sites in terms of traffic, and in turn, GDC grew larger than any other Green Day forum.

And here we are, almost 9 years later, $10,000 invested in GDC alone, and 50,000 members. I'm quite happy with the way it's all turned out - even if I want to nuke it all from time to time.

There's also a thread about how the site looked over the years if you're interested as well.

Nah. Her account is @fashionvictim86, but she hasn't been around in a couple years. She got busy with other stuff and stopped working on the sites after the American Idiot tour. I took over in 2006, and she came back to help around the release of 21CB for a short while.

I believe the dates in the American idiot booklet are when the songs were written.

So Idiot Nation peoples, how useful is the presale for arena shows? From what I gathered, it seemed to be kinda useless for the club shows, but is it the same for the arena shows?

Since 2009 I've successfully bought tickets for 2 arena shows, a stadium show and 2 smaller (3000/5000 people) shows through Idiot Club presales, never once failed. I know it doesn't always work out that way for everyone, and I haven't ever tried buying them in a general sale so I can't compare it, but from my experience at least I'd say it's worth it. If nothing else it's just nice to have that extra chance before the general sale, knowing you'll still have a second shot even if you don't get them.

So how early should I show up to the show to get a front spot concert vets?
Or should I just show up not too early and move with the crowd?

This wouldn't be a huge thing except if i'm not in the front i literally cannot see. (I'm not even five feet) haha.

From my experience you want to be in the queue for at least 5 hours.
