Green Day Q&A Thread

Does anyone else remember a Green Day contest where the object was to upload the "welcome" sign of your hometown and explain why you hated living there? It must have been US only because I remember taking the picture and being disappointed I couldn't enter. I think it was during the 21st Century Breakdown Tour or while American Idiot was on Broadway. That was peak emo-pop punk marketing.

Hahahaha that's hilarious. Making use of the "I want to get out from my hometown" cliché to have a contest whose hometown is the worst? That's just a proof they're the true emo icon.

Right? Prove your hometown is the worst to escape with tickets to see your emo heroes! Hella Mega is doing it all wrong. Pretty sure my entry (RIP) looked something like this

I remember because I remember your entry looking something like that. It must have been way back before the 21CB tour?

I know ''No One Knows'' wasn't ever played live, but has it ever been teased? For example like Billie Joe teased Smells Like Teen Spirit before perfoming Basket Case, little Say Goodbye snippet during Holiday and so on. Great track, shame it was never played even once.

Why they hate 21st Century Breakdown so much that they ditched most of the album straight after tour ended?

That's something I'd also like to know. There's so many good song on that album and not only they're not playing them live, they also abandoned that musical direction completely. Nothing they've done since has any link to Breakdown musically. It's like it was a dead end road for them.

I mean everyone knows at this point that writing 21CB was long overdue and huge stress so it would make sense that The Boys™ didn't want to stress about making albums anymore. What I don't understand at all is that they put so much effort for that album (more than in anything else) and didn't even celebrate its 10th anniversary. Of course, Dookie 25 is going on, but 21CB 10 would've been better.

@Little Boy Named Airplane Hahah :D I'm glad I heard it back in 2013 and after seeing setlist.fm statistics for that song (after 21CB Tour ended), I consider myself lucky as fuck to hear it even once.

Not that we know of. It’s possible it could have been played back in 91/92, but no recordings exist.

You must be. The only recording we have like that would be Washington 1990, one that I surfaced two years ago.

This leads me to question did they actually play Dirty Rotten Bastards live back in 2011 in that Halloween show? I know there are no recordings of it, but would be fun to know was it actually played.

It was on the setlist, so it’s possible.

I had a friend who was there but she doesn’t remember much just that it was bunch of songs she never heard and a few songs she knew from the radio (she isn’t a  GD fan her boyfriend at the time is the fan)

I don't think so. There were a few GDCers there and they did pretty well identifying all the songs but never mentioned Dirty Rotten Bastards.

What was the thing with a Hella Mega website and a guy from The Office with a fake password box? It must have been one of several things I missed while I was away because I have no recollection of it at all

It was also played at The Independant (April 7), the DNA Lounge (April 9) and The Uptown (April 15). They've only ever played it as part of the full album, sadly.

Looking for a video. Its a live performance from some Award show (MTV perhaps) and during the performance there was something wrong with Billies sound-thing (that thing they have attached to the back of their pants) and Mike fixes it while Billie keeps singing.

Does anyone recognize this?😂

Couple weeks late, but I just found fan footage of it.

And the pic.

"No One Knows" is the only Kerplunk song that hasn't been performed.   I guess it doesn't fit well into a set except at the end, and that spot's taken by other slow songs.  But it would be a nice treat every now and then.   Do it right before Good Riddance and bam.

Green Day have done fairly well at performing most tracks from their studio discography, but the ones they haven't done are sorely missed.

"Panic Song" and "Westbound Sign" from Insomniac.    Not sure why they haven't done these.

"Song of the Century" (it was played as recording at the Breakdown shows!)

"See you Tonight", "Baby Eyes", "Nightlife" and "The Forgotten" have never seen the light of the stage.    If the Trilogy Era were allowed to unfold like your flag (get it!) then these may have been performed during the Trilogy Tour.   But now these probably don't have a chance.   But Green Day are being weird this time around so fingers crossed!

"Outlaws" and "Bouncing off the Wall", and "Say Goodbye" was only teased.    All of these seem like they'd be an epic part of a show, so I could see these being played at some point.
