Green Day Q&A Thread

Love the song but when it's dragged out so long you could include 3 more short tunes in the set instead, or play it normally, mess around during it and move on. More people would like it more if that were the case. I saw them in '98 on the first tour with it and I don't remember it being extended too much. Billie did have his leopard print underwear or thong, they stole the entire festival with their performance.

Must have been hilarious to see that live . They used to drag Paper Lanterns out to 10 minutes while Billie put on clothes that people had thrown on stage, chucked water and did call and response instead during that time though. Since Dookie they've always made at least one song last a long time like that.

Also I know I'm in the minority here but I don't really see the appeal of them playing a couple of extra short songs instead, like, that's what they do for the rest of the show and as long as I'm being entertained I'm not counting the number of songs :P. I like the variation of a bit of drawn out silliness being included rather than them just ripping through as many songs as they can the whole show. That said I'm pretty sure they have made it a bit shorter with their latest shows, so maybe more people will be happy with it.

My only issue with King For A Day these days is that it seems more like rehearsed, forced fun and there's very little spontaneity to it because they've done it so many times in virtually the same way. Other than that, bring it on.

I even dispute that :P. They play almost all their songs exactly the same every time (just playing through the song, or adding in the same traditions), but with KFAD they change up the costumes, stuff said, interaction between the band members, covers sung, different band members joining in singing the "I want you to know" part, sax solos, Billie's various antics, and throw in extra things like the strippers or a Benny Hill scene. It's distinctive so I guess that can make it seem repetitive but really I don't think there's a performance they vary more other than maybe Hitchin a Ride.

I agree - it's just cheesy now - just sing the song. - or don't would be my preference😋

It is honestly just really fun with people singing along and dancing and stuff and watching all their antics :D. One of my favourite memories from a GD show was being in the crowd chanting for Mike to do the "I want you to know..." part after Tre had done it and him doing it for the first time, and then making Billie laugh by chanting for Jason next. It's great to join in and just to see the band having such a laugh with it. Always fun times!

Wembley Stadium! :D:D

I like KFAD when I'm actually experiencing it. I'm not quite sure why it's such a staple for them though. I'm sure there's at least a few other songs that are just as fun that could take its place - although maybe with the lyrical content, it's maybe a part of the show where they feel they can mess around and embrace unconventional things...such as strippers and wearing tutus and pop song covers

Except now it's the same thing everytime - ooh look the guys are lying on the stage etc etc.

You guys are such Debbie downers, geeze. Why is one song such a big deal? I understand everyone has their favourites and least favourites, but it seems like such a drag to focus so much on negativity :ermm: Perhaps if you didn't watch so many videos of the same song online, you wouldn't feel this animosity towards the idea of actually experiencing it live for yourself.

And every other song isn't the same thing every time (ooh look they're just playing the song, ooh look they're bringing someone on stage to sing etc)? :P

Some of us with OCD count the number of songs, haha.   I don't mind the extended bits (Minority, King for a Day) but more songs would be nice too.

Green Day has that wonderful problem of having too many great songs.   Personally, I want to hear every song EXCEPT Haushinka and Prosthetic Head.  Because screw those songs.   Well, time for me to head back over to the "ideal set list" thread and get to work.

C'mon Haushinka is classic! Fell for that song on first listen when I was like 8, day it came out. Jinx too. Maybe I was 9.

Does anybody remember that shoe brand kinda like Vans but with bigger rubber bottoms that Billie (along with some other well-known people) wears a lot?

No, they are a more obscure shoe brand. Kinda pricey. Really thick rubber bottoms. I'll see if I can find a picture

Ah, yes. I just found that picture too. I'm not sure what those are, would those be considered creepers? I'm not sure if that's a brand name or not

I just went on a wild goose chase through the internet. They are creepers made by TUK. I was in a Vans store today and saw some shoes I really liked. Then I remembered I had been on TUKs website before and they had some shoes similar to Vans, except theyre made in Cali instead of China and they actually have sole support. So I just went to their website and ordered some similar but even cooler shoes and used a black Friday promo code to get them 50% off. Best thing that's happened for me this week haha

Yes, they are creepers. Billie has/had those black ones and Tre always wore those white and black with the black squares during that era.

The trouble with shoe brands is they tend to have specific styles come and go pretty quickly. It's an old pic. I doubt they're available anymore.
