I've heard that on some Nimrod CDs, The Grouch isn't listed on the back. Does anyone one like that?

Yep I do wtf - do any other Aussies have the same.

Was Billie a meth addict? If so, how he could possibly kick his meth addiction so fast and easy without even entering rehab? Billie and Mike talked about meth heads a lot, but never said anything about trying speed themselves.

I'm in no way referring to Jaded In Chicago show, because it's hard to tell on what thing he was that night, or maybe he just loved acting like he is high.

Billie did take meth (I'm assuming they all did). He wrote about it in songs and talked about it in interviews. It's a seriously addictive substance but he has never admitted to being a meth addict. Then again he never fully said what he was using other than perscription meds after iheart. Who knows if there was other stuff. It's hardly shocking and who really cares. Most of us got into the band knowing they did hard drugs and whatever. Hey it's their lives. We have to assume they know how to handle themselves. They aren't dead yet lol. Anyway here is an example of one interview where he mentions using meth.

He once tweeted "doing a huge line of meth and watching megadeth" or something along this line so we are safe to say that he did meth or at least claimed so as recently as 2010/2011.

Just because they took meth it doesn't mean they were meth addicts. Sometimes people use drugs without becoming addicted to them. I'm still confused by what they mean by "speed" and "meth" though. Both words refer to types of amphetamines but here "speed" means pills while "meth" means crystal meth that you smoke and is much more harmful, but Green Day seem to use the two words interchangeably. Can "meth" mean speed pills? Because surely they weren't smoking crystal meth?

Pretty sure that was mostly in the early days up to around Insomniac times though. I think I've read Billie saying something like he switched to alcohol around Nimrod times (and the fact he went from speed-skinny to chubby with a beer belly supports that :P).

And yeah the Megadeth thing was definitely a joke.

I read somewhere, I think it was in the Cometbus book but Im not sure. Anyway I read that they went to parties and people would tell them to do meth so they did but they snorted it like coke. I didnt know you could snort meth.

He went through a stage with some really nasty teeth. I think that should answer the meth question.

Meth and Speed are both names for methamphetamine which can be smoked, snorted or injected. It's highly addictive, some people use it a few times and get hooked, others are luckier.

Personally, I doubt it's possible to be heavily addicted to meth and pursue a successful long-term career.

Hah, those nasty teeth are a result of stagediving, moshing and rough crowds in early days.

What about amphetamine pills/powder though? In my country speed means a type of amphetamine that's taken as pills or snorted which is a class B drug often used by people on a night out etc, and meth means methamphatamine, a highly addictive class A drug like you describe. I always used to assume they were referring to that type of speed when they talked about taking speed but now I don't know. Seems more plausible it was that/mostly that if it was something they were taking recreationally without it causing major problems.

When Billie wrote Geek Stink Breath (and came up with the idea for the video) he was obviously talking about straight up meth which he has said he was using. That likely is why he lost a few teeth hence the video!! Cometbus has written about Green Day and Billie in particular a lot over the years and has mentioned their drug use (wish I could remember which books though since I have so freaking many). For his part Cometbus has used cocaine, acid and meth etc but has been in loads of bands and has been writing zines and novels (since the early 80's) and running his own store for years so people can be successful and use heavy, nasty drugs...just saying. I personally believe Billie was into coke or meth around the trilogy time because he looked dead and was the closest to unravelling ever (he wasn't like that when he admitted using meth back around Insomniac era). Most rockstars who use drugs do cocaine etc so it's far from surprising especially as we know they love drugs lol. Tre constantly joked about drugs during AI period telling Mike in one interview to take "LSD, Ketamine and ecstacy and you'll be flying in no time". And Mike during the trilogy "I garden like Breaking Bad". Funny maybe but a few weeks later Billie was in rehab. Hey they named their band Green Day haha. Billie wouldn't say what drugs he was using when being interviewed by RS in 2013 but admitted he had been using. It doesn't take a huge leap of the imagination to work it out...though he is unlikely to admit it if it is the case as he isn't the same guy he was in 95...public image and perception clearly matter a lot to him/the band/management now.

Where in that RS article did Billie refer to doing drugs other than the prescription meds? I got the impression he just had a huge problem with booze.

I think he said they were prescription drugs but didn't want to go into detail. There wasn't any other interview than the one from the issue with him on the cover.

It's true he looked wretched but pills can do this to you as well. He once said he was on Rohypnol. Just read the package leaflet...the part about using with alcohol is just cringy.

That's what I remember him saying too. I don't think not wanting to go into detail means he was doing other stuff but rather that he just didn't want to talk about it.

I agree. Also he said the meds were originally prescribed for other problems he had. It's no surprise he didn't want to give too much information.
