Hermione
Does anyone know why the song 'Dry Ice' is so named? I think it's called Dry Ice because it's a romantic song, and at that time when romantic pop songs/ballads etc were performed on TV dry ice was often used as a stage effect. So it's a little joke about it being such a romantic song. Just my personal theory.

Guest
Does anyone know why the song 'Dry Ice' is so named? Dry Ice song meaning This is one of the songs that Armstrong wrote about his best friend's sister. The narrator is expressing his genuine feelings towards a girl that inspired him to write this song. He is deeply in love with her, keeps dreaming of her and wants her to be by his side, but he doesn't know if she feels the same way. He doesn't find enough courage in himself to write her a letter, his pen is "writing wrong" and he decides to express his feelings in a song, hoping that she will hear him and understand how much he really needs her. That's all I could find. He probably never said why he called it Dry Ice. Btw. if you ever need to find song meanings go to geekstinkbreath.net ... so helpful I guess we'll have to interpret it (Edit: He wrote it about his best friend's sister?! Mike's sister???) I think it's called Dry Ice because it's a romantic song, and at that time when romantic pop songs/ballads etc were performed on TV dry ice was often used as a stage effect. So it's a little joke about it being such a romantic song. Just my personal theory. During the Sweet Children set at HoB Billie said that Dry Ice was so called because some guy kept saying that the song needed a shit ton of dry ice when it was played live because it was so epic. Billie did go on to say that the idea was tacky as fuck so the title was probably just an ironic in joke.

I can understand 'Billie', but I think this is really my first time seeing the combination 'Billie Armstrong' rather than 'Billie Joe' or 'Billie Joe Armstrong'. To be honest, for some reason I randomly thought of Lance Armstrong riding a bike and Billy Joel sitting behind him when I saw that. I don't know why.

Saw that once and man, that was weird.

Ham Pascale
I like that theory - sounds plausible! Nope, it wasn't the actual reason for a name - at least that's what John said in 1989 interview: "Whupped" - yeah, that's really dumb name for a song, especially whenever I hear the song, I picture, like, some stupid video with dry ice smoke. So we called it "Dry Ice".
