The band was the first punk act in the 1990s to breakthrough into the mainstream thanks to its huge album "Dookie."

desertrose
Found this that was from February, don't know if already posted. It's 18 years since @GreenDay's Jakarta gig. I wrote a few words about it. Popular Post DookieLukie
Sort of random, but also very neat: Tonight I had the privilege to meet Marky Ramone, drummer of the Ramones, who spoke at my school tonight. After the show, I met him privately and he signed my belt and took pictures. During his presentation, though, he spoke a bit about Green Day. These are the random remarks he made: - All three of them are extremely nice guys, and he has hungout with them on many occasions - When the Ramones were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, they didn't want to perform due to the recent death of Joey Ramone. Green Day volunteered to play Ramones songs, and apparently they rehearsed a lot and took it very seriously. Marky says that what Green Day did for his band was special and something he will never forget. - When asked about new music he listens to, he mentioned Foreverly, saying that it brings him great joy when artists test themselves and try new things. - He also said that Dookie is an excellent album, and that overall Green Day are very talented musicians.

DookieLukie
Take THAT, John Lydon! That's awesome, man. To be fair, Marky Ramone seems to be someone who loves music in any form. He kept saying never to knock down other people's music (but he did say Top 40 is shit lol). Johnny Rotten is a pompous asshole who made one album and thinks he's the dictator of music. Plus everything Rotten says is out of jealousy anyway.

One of these days I really want to troll a Sex Pistols fansite just so I can see his fans attempt to explain how doing a butter commercial is still punk rawk. Popular Post DookieLukie
The whole "Green Day isn't punk" argument has no merit for TWO big reasons. 1. Green Day's musical style is punk rock. Anyone who listens to the Sex Pistols and the Ramones would agree. Even Marky Ramone tonight said that Green Day's style is very similar to the Ramones. When I first got into the Sex Pistols, minus the vocals, it was basically Green Day, if maybe a bit heavier. Like I said once before, the Ramones were more poppy than Green Day has ever been. 2. The selling out thing is so dumb. The Sex Pistols were a band that was put together, not formed. Sort of like One Direction. How "punk" is that? The Clash were once hated for signing to a major label. I read a newspaper headline of the announcement of their record deal that read "The Day Punk Died." People just forget eventually. Green Day didn't write American Idiot for money. They had inspiration and made it. And most of the songs on AI as just as "punk" as anything else in their discography.
Hero_Of_The_Hour
Why even mention the butter commercial? After being on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here he has zero credibility in any form. That show can best be described as AIDS (no offense to anyone actually suffering with AIDS).

Ha, yeah right. I'll at least be able to stalk them outside again if I call off work and get there early.

This festival is usually a bunch of current acts
