Hunk: noun

informal

2. a large, strong, sexually attractive man

Like I said, it's a reference from a comedy show where the main character is insecure and always talks about how annoying hunks are.

You're just sounding like Billie Joe in the 80s.

As someone who has been a student at Oxford, a university in Spain, and an American university of high quality, I can assure you that the best universities in the US are of equal caliber to the education I received at Oxford. America has excellent universities, and struggles in its secondary and elementary education because unlike most countries in the world, there is a constant flood of non-English speaking immigrants and it's a lot more challenging to educate children in a world that is almost unbelievably multicultural and whose diversity is its biggest asset as well as its biggest hurdle. There are just SO many Americans and THOUSANDS of universities. We need to keep our country running somehow.

I will say the Spanish university system was a complete joke, no offense Madrid :P Those kids used wikipedia as their entire bibliography on research papers and passed  They also threw spitballs at the professor. I was like WTF.

Sorry for the totally non-GD related post. I try to avoid engaging in this stuff usually. Carry on.

So many of my fellow college students want to study abroad in places like Spain, Russia, China, France, Australia, etc, and I personally feel like it's such a dumb idea. Most countries have poor college systems. So you're paying more money to take the same classes (or even some that don't even apply to your major) in another country, while often having to learn in a different language. That, to me, seems like a whole lot of negatives.

No, that's also an ignorant thing to say. Studying in Europe or Asia or Australia will open up narrow American minds that think there's no value in it. Sure, the classes I took in Spain were noticeably inferior quality, but I learned more just by living in another country and speaking another language than I could have if I stayed in the US.

Mike and Tre have said it best, their education has come from traveling the world, and it's an experience you can't replace or learn in a textbook, sensitivity to other cultures. That's what makes Americans frequently ignorant and overly patriotic and convinced our country is the best ever, we're just so isolated from the rest of the world, physically and mentally.

But...we are the best country in the world.

Isn't college really expensive in the US - it's depicted as parents saving for a college fund?

Yes & if you come to australia you will need to learn another language.

Sf Weekly. Music Quotes of the Week:

"There was a lot of whining in rock at that time. By nature, we're extroverts. So that's what came across in our songs. We knew we were entering an arena of bands that we didn't like."On the 20th Anniversary of Dookie, Billie Joe Armstrong looks back on prepping for Green Day's major label debut (Rolling Stone).

Billie Joe Armstrong’s Gibson Guitars

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong turned 42 this month and during the last decade he’s matured into something of a vintage guitar aficionado. For his Gibsons, Armstrong relies on an array of Les Paul Juniors, Standards, Specials, an SG, an ES-335, his J-200s, an ES-135 and even a Custom Shop Les Paul.

It was 2000 when Armstrong bought his 1956 sunburst Gibson Les Paul Junior that he calls ‘Floyd,’ and he’s been hooked on Juniors since. In an interview with Gibson.com in 2006, Billie Joe said, “I’ve got about 20 Les Paul Juniors from the ‘50s. I got anything from Specials to the regular single dog-ear pickup to the TV-colored, and sunburst,” said Armstrong. “I pretty much got all of the ones that they made basically from 1955 to 1959-1960.”

Armstrong added: “Floyd is still my favorite, but I recently bought a ‘56 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty and it’s a close second. I have about 30 vintage Les Pauls now and I love them all.”

The Gibson Les Paul Junior was originally a so-called “student” guitar but it soon became a hit with guitarists who liked raw tone with just one pickup. “You just get to hear what the guitar sounds like,” agreed Billie Joe.

Old but don't think its been posted. :)

Saw it but what does it have to do with Green Day or Billie Joe? Just curious.

Just making fun of the many articles that spell Billie Joe's name wrong, by spelling it Billy Joel or Billy Jo, etc. It also reminds me of the different e-mails GDA receives as the guys mention on the podcast.
