DookieLukie
As someone without a uterus, I'm not sure why Billie thinks he has the right to an opinion on abortion and people with uterus' bodies.

Whenever something shitty happens in politics, the Green Day guy always shows up to say he’s mad about it. It’s like ah yes there he is both for people who agree with him and for people who disagree. That’s the part they might want to reconsider now grandpa Billie confirmed!!! 😳

Thank you… You have a point but I think you’re looking at it from a wrong perspective. I don’t think it’s wrong of him to have an opinion and say it because there’s a thing called solidarity and we need it, if we want to function as a society. I’m not homeless, does that mean I don’t have the right to ask my city officials not to close down a hostel for people who have nowhere else to go? I’m not a refugee, does that mean I don’t have a right to say anything when people are left hungry and stranded at a train station? I mostly pass as white, does that mean I shouldn’t say anything against racism? It’s not about having an opinion but about caring about others and wanting other people to have their rights and supporting them. There’s nothing wrong with that per se. That being said, it says something about our society that the one person whose speaking out against Roe vs. Wade being revoked gets talked about the most is a cis white middle aged man. That doesn’t make him wrong to do so though. 6

Flashback
And please let us not forget that we are in a forum dedicated to a band which gained massive fame by being able to share their opinions, so GD and free speech belong together somehow 😅

Or not support it? It wont get us anywhere.

But people shouldn‘t overestimate the relevance of their opinion on certain topics. Billie once had a beautiful quote about the relevance of opinions but I can‘t find it anymore. That sounds like what a friend of mine likes to call “Twitter brain rot” (sorry about the term, but her point is that it’s a way of thinking that originates from online debate and it doesn’t translate well into real life activism/actively makes it more difficult to organize). It sounds girlbossy and good on paper, but eventually, politics like this are divisive and all they do is give more power to the side that wants to limit people’s rights. Solidarity has nothing to do with approval… if you don’t have an opinion when your fellow people’s rights are in question, who benefits?
localinsomniac
If a man isn't allowed to have an opinion on what women can and can't do with their bodies, then Roe never should have been fucking overturned to begin with.
Popular Post killjoywhatsername
Had a friend text me asking me if I had thoughts on Billie’s comments since it’s trending and they saw… I just said what I thought when I saw it— love my boy Billie but he already said this UK stuff a month ago, it’s nothing new and it seems to do more with Joey than anything. Solidarity is great but saying “I’m gonna leave cause the country is bad” fees so performative. I don’t think he meant for this to pick of traction so performative might be the wrong word but it’s not as great to me as some are saying and not as bad as others are saying.

Popular Post michael1989
I think what he said was just part of the performance and him venting. A way to get the crowd amped. It’s about as likely to eventuate as the Forever Now music video. 5
Rumpelstiltskin2000
Just been on Twitter and yeah what Billie said has literally been blown out of all proportion because of what's happening at the moment. My mom texted me today about it. She said "You fans need to tell Billie Joe Armstrong he cannot renounce his US citizenship because we need every vote!" My mom is always right, so it's settled. In all seriousness, though, if he really is actually dead serious about it, I agree. You give up that citizenship and you give up your ability to use that vote to stand up for what you believe in and against things you don't. At a time like this, too, every vote really does count. We all need to keep on fighting this together. 2
