Popular Post Virginia Lot Lizard
I’m not crazy about the way the song sounds production and instrument wise but the way it is sung with emotion and the lyrics are 💔 I just listened to it again. It’s magical. I love it. It’s been a while since I really listened to it. There’s a lot of parts of the lyrics that get me… This line kills me… ”did you tattoo a lucky charm to keep you out of harm's way… “ Like the danger was known and care was taken but in the wrong way and it wasn’t enough. To think of it in the bigger picture I think this song is important emotionally and lyrically. Once again the curse of the Trilogy having the best songs emotionally, lyrically and theme wise but kinda missing the mark with execution. The Trilogy is my fav but you kinda gotta think a little bit in a different way when listening to these records. I wonder if they were too rushed. I’m so glad they’re revisited with the Otis Mixes and the Longshot set lists. It’s heartbreaking that Green Day as a band has seem to abandoned the Trilogy. It means the most to me and maybe others too.

Popular Post Slave To The Network
I liked it until I had a boss named Amy and she was awful and gaslighted me and my coworkers (one quit and then another quit in tears). I found another job soon after that. Now that song just rubs me the wrong way because of the name. 😔 1

Popular Post Beerjeezus
I just saw this quite on tumblr: Were you sober when you wrote “Amy"? BJ: "I was on heavy medication. I was sober, but I wasn't clear. Seeing how it went down with her - something drew me to write that song. I don't write about people that pass away very often. I think I've done it three times: "X-Kid"; the one about my dad, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" [on American Idiot]; and "Amy." In a weird way, I'm almost desensitized by death, because I learned about it at such an early age. I have this family that is much older than I am, and I have a lot of friends who have committed suicide, gotten into drunk-driving accidents, hung themselves. So death has always been in my life. [Pauses, laughs grimly] That sounds really funny. But if you look back, I've been writing about addiction forever. There's this other side of me going, "I told you this shit was going down. You wouldn't fucking take it seriously.""

"Amy" is about the late singer Amy Winehouse. You wrote "X-Kid" about a friend who never figured out how to be a middle-age punk. Were you consciously writing these songs about yourself? BJ: "Yeah. The guy in "X-Kid" died from the same habits I had. ¡Uno! is definitely the sense of "Be young, be free." The second album is the midlife crisis: "I want to live my life dangerously, because I haven't lived dangerously enough." And the third record is the reflection on reality. I've lived that arc my whole life, since I was 17. "
Popular Post Slave To The Network
He still writes like that. "Rock and roll tragedy/ I think the next one could be me" always gets me in Junkies On A High. I always have this thought like 'god, you still think so? If how you're continuing to live makes you feel like that's still an outcome, I hope that changes soon. I don't want that to happen.'
