It takes so much time and effort and luck to get a million plays. That's an honest to goodness hit single if you get that kind of attention. But then you get a check for 4000 bucks? You'd have to have 7 or 8 huge hits a year just to live a low income lifestyle. And you better not be buying hit-making instruments, those are expensive! Great guitar? Forget it! Studio budget to produce said hits? You better have songs 100 percent ready to go before going and beg for some free time! It's absolutely ridiculous, so in our lousy modern world, it's perfectly understandable when a band 'sells out'. They have to sell cars, put their band on face masks and coffee mugs and whatever else to make money. Especially with covid. Anyway. I've gotten nearly 1100 plays on soundcloud, and my youtube is starting to rev up a bit, and I sold a painting once for a few dollars.
