Blame Warner, not Funko. They announced their intent to release GD Pops in 2016 subject to licensing as always. Warner for some reason refuses to grant the license for any of its artists to Funko. Maybe Warner wanted them to take a bundle of artists and Funko said no, idk. But that’s the kind of thing the broadcasting giants do to cable companies to carry their channels. You have to take a lot of minor crap channels too that make you no money. So whatever happened, they failed to strike a deal.

ARGH I didn't even know this! Warner why?!

WB would have no control over that as they don’t own Green Day’s name or likeness

and MCR has funkos and they on Reprise/WB as well

I am totally okay with Warner not allowing Funko to make anything. I fucking hate those Pops. The aesthetic to me is stupid and completely unappealing and I hate that they will make Pops of literally anything under the sun. They have to stick their fingers in every fandom they can find and destroy the art style and aesthetic with those stupid little figures. This may be an unpopular opinion, I know, but I don't care.

Agreed, but at the same time the Pepe funko is cute. I'd totally blow my hard-earned money on that.

Look at this little guy, he's adorable. I love it. I'm convinced that I need that in my life.

But I don't love the idea of Green Day funkos. Seems like just another bad idea.

I agree. I don't mind funko pops but I really don't get the appeal

I actually think some of them are cute. I love the Kurt Cobain one I have, but I agree with @Slave To The Network. I hate how they'll make one for everything and try to get their hands in all the fandoms. That's why so many of them end up in the bargain bin.

Still, I would get Green day ones. They would better than those AI figures Hot Topic had years ago. The best ones are the ISH figures that are way too expensive.

There is a part of Warner that has the exclusive rights to license merch. They run the Green Day store and get a cut off all merch sales there and on tour. They have to grant permission for others to make GD merch

One more thing we agree on   I hate them too, but I always thought I was the only one since most people worship them like you're not a fan if you don't have one. So glad GD is not in that kind of consumerism.

And even though they did have their figures, they were different and made them as band merch, not to be part of some trend.

German TV station ZDFinfo will air a four-part-documentation called "The True Story of Punk", featuring Dave Grohl, Billie Joe Armstrong and others on Jan 16th, 2021, 10.30 AM (local time): https://www.morecore.de/news/zdfinfo-zeigt-die-vierteilige-doku-reihe-the-true-story-of-punk/

I will definitely check this out!

It’s a good documentary. Billie is only in the last part, but it’s worth watching the whole thing.

This keeps poppin up in my “recommended” and I’ve ignored it. Maybe I’ll watch over lunch tomorrow based on this.

@pacejunkie punk thanks for this.  I usually avoid this sort of video (probably cos I often disagree 😂😂) but this is a good one.  I think also Digital Black is a perfect example of Billie Joe (and they all do it) playing the solo that fits the song rather than going off on some self-indulgent, ego stoking guitar solo which doesn’t fit!  Although that’s not Green Day of course 😌

I'm a true believer because I just figured "of course he's not" and forgot to watch this when it came up for me in recommeded videos

EDIT: Watched it and yeah, be refutes the common guitar dudebro arguments. Maybe I'd choose different examples sometimes, but it's a good video.

This was his house on Manchester Dr, not his current home.

Oakland mansion once owned by Green Day singer sells for $1 million under original listing price

An Oakland mansion previously owned by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has sold for $6.2 million. It was listed this summer for $7.25 million.

The 6,911-square-foot property in Upper Rockridge has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. It was built on the site of the 1911 Julia Morgan-designed Red Gate Mansion, which burned in the 1991 Oakland hills fire. In 1997, Armstrong built the classic French Normandy-style home with rockstar features. These include a sound system, media room and a two-room recording studio with three soundproof practice booths where Green Day had jam sessions.

10 punk and country crossover collabs that need to happen

The Chicks and Green Day

This collaboration makes sense because the Chicks and Green Day have both been outspoken about politics, particularly in criticizing President George W. Bush and the Iraq War in the 2000s. The Chicks also recently put out arguably their most dynamic album to date, Gaslighter, which takes obvious influences from alternative, rock, blues and more. Green Day are just as iconic, so we could only imagine a high-energy collaboration best performed live. Oh, and maybe a Green Day cover of “Wide Open Spaces” while we’re at it.

Billie Joe Armstrong & Norah Jones’ ‘Foreverly’ album to be reissued on vinyl

Reprise RecordsGreen Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones' collaborative album Foreverly is being reissued on vinyl.

The record will be released January 15 as part of Rhino's "Start Your Ear Off Right" campaign. It'll be available on orange vinyl and will be limited to 3,000 copies.

Foreverly was originally released in 2013. It consists of Armstrong and Jones performing renditions together of traditional songs from the 1958 Everly Brothers album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us.

Meanwhile, Armstrong recently released a new compilation called No Fun Mondays, which collects the covers he released in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
