The Grohl
Green Day can also be quite immature lol. I still think it would've been a better outing then Hella Mega. But I'm also a classic Blink fan so I would love the chance to see the two together.
Beerjeezus
When they’re doing Pop Disaster II, which Hella Mega essentially is, it’s a missed opportunity to not include Blink.

The Grohl
Blink would convince me to go to Hella Mega even though it's an inferior version of the band. On a similar note, does anyone know how FOB was picked to induct GD in the Rock Hall? I've never understood if the band being inducted gets to pick, if the Rock Hall asks someone, or if bands ask to induct people. Because FOB inducting still makes zero sense to me. I guess GD could've picked them but I would think they would go with anyone else like Tim Armstrong or even Larry Livermore.
jengd
There was a recent interview with them, can’t think which one, where they were asked and Billie said something along the lines of “they were given a choice between FOB and someone else, he was not going to say who, but they said oh no to the other choice” at which point Tre said something like “ but it rhymes with David Schnopperfield” and they all fell about laughing, will see if I can find it. If I remember rightly it was lovely silly, giggly GD at their best!

I'm not sure where I heard this, but allegedly Green Day were given options and picked FOB, because the alternative was a "hell no". 27 minutes ago, jengd said: Oh god, not another band in the mix 😂 The other bands wouldn't be there! So if that's the case, the Rock Hall has a list of people and then lets the inductees pick. That's kind of lame. Sometimes it's spot on, like Trent Reznor inducting The Cure or REM inducting Nirvana. But FOB inducting Green Day? Honestly, I'd rather Blink induct them. Mark has spoken many times on what a huge influence Green Day has been on the band, so it would make sense to me. When I used to listen to FOB regularly I never once thought oh that must be influenced by Green Day.

I just wouldn't have guessed FOB in a million years. If Rock Hall actually curates a list, I wish they would just let the inductees make suggestions. Maybe they do. I have no idea. I've been trying to figure out how it works for years.
jengd
Maybe there is not much choice, if the band you wanted was out on tour etc it would get difficult. I think it may have been the Kevin & Bean I interview but I don’t have time to listen to it just now.

AlissaGoesRAWR
As someone who heard it in person, the Fall Out Boy speech was actually really good... they focused a lot on how Green Day has inspired kids and bands like them. Though I was confused when I heard they were doing the induction, after hearing it, I think the perspective really made sense. Like it or not, Fall Out Boy's sound has changed and evolved over the years and pissed off fans and casual listeners alike in a way that Green Day's did too. jengd
I agree, I wasn’t convinced when I heard it was them but their speech was really good, sounded like they really knew the history and admired them. You lucky thing!
The Grohl
I can't remember their speech I have no doubt that they were genuine and care about the band. I think that's pretty obvious. I just still think it's such a weird pick. I would think they would go with one of their peers, someone who's worked with the band or was pretty close to them, or someone else in the punk scene.
Virginia Lot Lizard
What y’all are forgetting is that Green Day is greater than Weezer is greater than Fall Out Boy is greater than the Interrupters is greater than Blink 182. (Change the other of the bands what but I think Blink still at the bottom and Green Day remains greater than all). Hellamega is greater than Pop Disaster. No point in recreating Pop Disaster or putting Blink on Hellamega. Blink sucks and Pop Disaster would suck and it would be like riding Green Day’s coat tails or making them a retro band which would cheapen the fact that Green Day is still very relevant whereas Blink not so much.
The Grohl
I think no matter what band you add, people could say they're riding on Green Day's coattails. That's just how successful the band is at this point. I really don't see how it would cheapen the show. Blink is still making new music. It may not be good, but they're still releasing albums, so I would hardly call them a retro act. And if the two bands had a great dynamic, it could be a fun show. It seems like they really didn't. I don't think it's anything personal, but it just seems like with the types of bands they were then, they didn't really flow. I would be curious to see how the show would work with 2004 Blink - after they released untitled. And when you break it down, Hella Mega is Pop Disaster just with different bands. It's the same Monsters of Rock concept Billie mentioned earlier this year. Who knows, maybe Green Day, Weezer, and FOB have a great dynamic with each other, but I don't see it. Watching that interview with Billie, Pete, and Rivers kind of came off as business as usual. It didn't feel like they really wanted to tour together. And Green Day might have felt the same during Pop Disaster - who knows? But it's not unheard of for bands who previously toured together to do it again.

I feel like the Rock Hall actually does a lot of grooming of future inductees this way — case in point, Green Day inducting Guns and Roses a few years prior. Miley Cyrus inducting Joan Jett the same year as Green Day also had a similar vibe, though I had no idea the two were actually friends until her speech, which was also surprisingly good. 9 minutes ago, The Grohl said: Blink is still making new music. Their most recent show I saw in Columbus was incredibly short, the only people in the first half of the pit paid extra for tickets, and it was really just them going through the motions for the entire thing. Travis has heart, but Mark looked like a robot and Skiba is still reading off a teleprompter years later. It was just sad. (Disclaimer: I'm not a Tom fanboy, he honestly annoys the shit out of me. But I acknowledge that blink was better with him in it.)

I don't know if they're going for that Grammys vibe - they always boast the unique collaborations thing and I guess that makes sense. It would show how far the inductees influence reaches showing that they inspire artists you wouldn't think of. But their picks feel so inconsistent. It's like they go between this thought and friends of inductees. Michael Stipe was friends with Kurt which made him a great pick for Nirvana. Similarly, Trent Reznor and Robert Smith are friends, so that made sense. And Iggy Pop inducted NIN and the two have worked together in the past. I guess I just really want to understand how they go about it because sometimes it's so damn spot on. And others it's like...why? Oh the woes of being a Blink fan I believe they're very bad live. I've heard about recent shows and it's such a disappointment. I really don't understand why they keep it up if Mark doesn't seem interested. Honestly, it seems like he enjoyed working with Simple Creatures more and those EPs were great! But Blink's output? Eh. Wait, is Skiba really reading off a teleprompter? Geez just end Blink already.
