Man, a little off topic, but all I can say right now is just: fk big corporations or industries in general! It's not even capitalism per se, but after a certain point, the larger a company gets the more it all seems to go to shit. Every single time. And I think that's valid across the board...

but then again, would it be possible to sell as many records or tour the world without such mega-labels and management?

So yeah, this doesn't seem far fetched

Yes, I guess so and when I read those things that they said about illuminati and stuff. It's reminded me of a documentary I watched years ago about music industry and I found it really scary lol I don't remember there was anything about GD but there are too many things about a lot of artists, it was a really deep stuff lol

Summing up the weekend of scandals for me:

- Ariana GrandeVSThe Billies: utter bullshit

- 3 Billboards outside Oakland, California: bullshit reaction, but an avoidable bullshit. Thinking about it, Warner/Crush should have thought about that kind of idiotic reactions. Makes me cringe to see Fantano and his minions spreading bullshit on twitter through that, I hope it will be forgotten soon. The whole thing just misrepresented this band and where they are in their career in an annoying way.

-Wackogate: what the fuck are you doing you Crush idiots?

Peace.

I think they all are not really a big deal for their current situation. It's what happens when your band in a label tries really hard to promote your stuff. Not all of the major labels like that though or managment maybe in that case.

I thought there was unnecessary preventable drama while they were with PM but now there's more and more of it while everything also gets increasingly commercialized. I can't say I'm stoked.

Exactly. There may have been drama in the past, but now it seems like there's just a shitstorm. Luckily it's over something dumb, but still Crush don't seem like they can handle it or prevent very well.

I suppose people always say "any publicity (good or bad) is good publicity"...

The issue with Crush as I see it is that they fail to create a consistent image for the band. Are you going the commercial route where you're heavily relying on sponsor deals, cross promotion and the whoohoo we're rOcKsTaRs and we do dRuGs or are you keeping this rather lowkey and instead focusing on the band's image as "normal guys" who are staying somehow involved in the local scene with their small shows and playing with smaller bands? Are you targeting a young audience that also appreciates other genres and artists like Billie Eilish and Post Malone or are you targeting dad rock fans who will nod approvingly at the "modern music suuuucks look we're rOcKsTars" message?

It's inconsistent. Look at Foo Fighters doing the "Dave Grohl is a nice dude" thing for 20 years. That's consistant personal branding.

That's true, but PR is meant to create positive publicity. You wouldn't pay someone to make you look like an idiot :P

EVERYTHING is not publicity.  David Grohl just is a nice person.  He hasn't been playing one for 20 years for promotion.  I've actually played poker with him and Jery Cantrell a few weeks ago. Two the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

As for the commercial look, I personally don't like the Harley presents but on the other hand, those guys did a bang up job of selling a lot of seats to this tour and I was pretty impressed.

Welcome back 🙂 Do you have any info into how the US tour dates are selling? Is it going as expected, better or worse?

Oh no haha  I wasn't trying to imply he's secretly an evil guy, just that he has a consistent image.

Despite how cool the 7 inch is, I honestly don't know how much I care about it to fork over 30 bucks total.

I see Billie Joe did the Vinyl text again... it's better than the actual album cover, so there's a plus! I wish I could just get that cover. I don't have a turntable, so the 7" is useless to me.
