Interesting interpretation of this song, hahha...

http://www.rrdailyherald.com/opinion/enjoying-lyrics-of-autumn-songs/article_56e2fb88-b8d2-11e7-8735-2fdc5f9dfcb9.html

"I really enjoyed the lyrics to “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day. This song follows the notion of the seasons like ages of our lives. Spring is childhood. Summer is teenage and young adult. Fall brings more experience and adulthood. Winter, of course, is for growing older. The song references the innocence of summer that doesn’t last and the end of September when we become who we really are."

Seems like a fair interpretation for someone who hasn't heard Billie explain it haha, I mean the stuff about summer passing and "the innocent can never last" does bring to mind summer being youth/innocence and fall/winter being the end of that. He does use a similar metaphor in the song, they just missed that the innocence ending is his father dying rather than just getting older.

Very true. I was just taken aback by the thoroughness and conviction in writing this description. Never heard it interpreted that way before! It definitely can fit though. If, like you said, you skip the detail of his dad dying.

I think they got it right without realizing it though. I recently heard Billie say in an interview that the result of his dad dying was that he and his siblings had to suddenly grow up though he was only ten and his brother was 13. So yes, with the end of the summer came suddenly being older. The person here didn’t get why, but the meaning still comes across in the song.

Yes I agree, they just didn't get the extra detail about the death (which to be fair isn't that obvious if you haven't heard Billie explain it's about that), and kind of extended it to include spring and winter :P

Yes but I struggled to get past the bit about the “new song”which is apparently Forever Autumn by the Moody Blues!  I had to go back and check it was actually a current article and not one of those bizarre cases where something pops up but is actually years old, none of which helps me take it as a worthwhile piece!

To be fair it's only winter they added, spring is mentioned in the song :P "Ring out the bells again, like we did when spring began" fits their theory, as it does sound like nostalgia for a previous time (in this metaphor, the start of the first season). I quite like their interpretation, I actually never really thought about it that way.

Fair enough . Yeah it definitely works, and even if you add in the death part it doesn't take away from that aspect of the meaning.

That was kind of my reaction. Like I never thought of it in this way but can kinda see how it fits. I think the explanation is a bit too metaphorical though. I always took the seasons that Billie mentions as literal. Like these events really did happen at whatever part of the year he mentions, rather than it being a metaphor.

I don't know if the plane really belongs to the band or if it is just a way to promote RevRad, but this is very cool:

Some bands have their own planes while others don't. Sometimes, some planes are just painted to promote something (I once saw a plane on tv promoting Pikachu/Pokémon.) If this was the band's plane, what was it doing in Goose Bay on the tarmac of a Canadian military airport?

^ True, it would make sens. They have long distances to travel between each city in South America.

Not sure if this is more of a “thought” or “news” or whatever but I went to a small show tonight in NYC for Brian Fallon and the opener looked familiar but I couldn’t quite place it. Then afterwards someone told me it was the original actor who played Johnny in American Idiot. Comepletely blew my mind. Apparently he has like a folk band now.

Apologies for bringing this up so longer after @Marina86 posted but apart from the fact that these things always piss me off, who the hell are they to make these pronouncements, by their criteria here, GD are not sellouts as I don't believe they have never changed what they do to try and get more sales or whatever, they do exactly what they want to do, and long may they continue!

A freedom that allows him to write songs about "joy and hope: doing it is a revolutionary act - says Noel Gallagher - not like Dave Grohl,  Green Day and Queens of the Stone Age guy who take inspiration from the news and scream.  What are they screaming about doing? " . Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth, Kim Jong-un are not arguments that excite the Manchester guitarist. “ "Who wants to hear music talking about topicality? The news is boring, Donald Trump is boring, that crap in North Korea is nice, but he's boring too.  Does not the Queen pay taxes? It is not a surprise. I do not care about this, but it's no surprise. Of course, I pay too many taxes. "

This article contains a video of Noel complaining about Green Day (where the article above took the quotes from but with a few more "fucks/fucking" etc thrown in). You have to turn the volume up as there is a voice over. He basically says what are they shouting about? They're shouting about the fucking news. It's fucking boring. etc etc.

Oh god, not another rant from a Gallagher. He has some of the most uninspiring music I've ever heard, he could do with a little topical inspiration in his songs.
