I opened a new thread for the interview since I bet we will talk about it for a while, which made me realize that I have absolutely no idea how you embed a thread here. Well, you just have to find it yourself ^^(I feel so dumb right now, lol)

This was already posted in the random news thread, but since we are already talking about this interview in like three different threads, I thought it might be wise to give it its own thread ^^

Awesome interview!!!! They were in rare form. I love how Billie is cracking up at almost everything and Tré is just hilarious!

Just realized I only have to quote it, haha. It's late ^^

Hey thanks for a making a thread! If I'd seen it posted about here I would've split the conversation into its own thread myself but no need now.

Guys when there's a brand new interview with the band it deserves it's own thread! Only small/random bits of news should be posted here, if it's anything you think will get more than a couple of replies go ahead and make a thread for it (or if you see something posted here that you think deserves its own feel free to make one or report it/message a mod so we can split it). Thanks

Interview with Aaron Cometbus that mentions Green Day quite a lot. I'm not sure if this is new (it's dated 07/13/2017) and just published on the site however it mentions interviewing Aaron in New York and he was in Russia at the time. It indicates the interview was conducted upon the release of In China With Green Day however as I understand it a Russian version has just been released so I'm unsure which they are referring to. Some of it is translated from Russian (badly by google) below.

Musicians of Green Day read your story about them?

Everyone asks me this, but ask them better.  I have already said too much about this. Someone read, someone, maybe not.  In general, being a hero of stories is difficult enough, on the one hand, and on the other - it's important to write about yourself and your friends, especially while everyone is alive, or you'll have to talk at funerals about how wonderful they were, and how you loved them, Silent about how they sometimes irritated you. Therefore, I believe that it is important to write about life here and now, about your sympathies and dislikes towards people.  This is exactly what I wrote about Green Day, the group I went with on tours.  But what do they think about it ... On the one hand, it seems to me, they are pleased that they are being written about, on the other, they could be upset because at some point I misunderstood them.  Whatever it was, they still enter me every time they go to their concerts when they find themselves nearby.

Continue to follow the life of the group? Billy sometimes behaves inadequately in public.

Listen, I do not want to speak for them and try to explain someone else's behavior.  I have many acquaintances who sometimes behave quite strangely. Sometimes it's wonderful, sometimes I'm ashamed of them.  I think I said enough about Green Day. I wrote a story about life with them, although this story is rather about growing up and friendship in a situation where your lives are completely different. Such are the cases, I said everything I wanted to say about them.

Is there anything behind the scenes? Did you have to remove a lot when editing it?

Oh, of course, a lot.  But it seems to me quite natural, when you write about friends and want to keep a relationship.  It is always good to leave some kind of understatement, to give the reader food for imagination.  Do not chew everything, sometimes it's better to say: "It was so, but only in my opinion", otherwise people will not have room for imagination, and they will not have the pleasure of reading. Most of my readers are punks at the age, but not all, and I understand that punk is a feeling of isolation and detachment, so I tried to write in a way that was interesting, first of all, to people from outside, not just the fans of Green Day.

Nice. I wish someone would ask them about it as he suggests!

Review of the Wrigley Show:

While I think the writer is being a tad bit harsh, I do agree with a lot of what they're saying which is part of why I sat out of that show.

Saw that.  Thought a GDC'er had written it!!

I know, it sounded like one. I don't agree that they're at their best when they're angry, they're at their best when they're fun.

That said, after all the complaining both private and public, I would like to hear the band's take on why they keep the shows the same.

Interesting. I do agree about the interludes though. It's becoming a lot. I remember at my show this year everyone looking around awkwardly during king for a day, unsure of what they were supposed to be doing. It's also been hard to listen to live recordings of this tour with all the interspersed filler.

Did they not already answer this when we had a big ol debate about it a few months back? I really feel like they did. That they discussed the issue of it being a big production that needed consistency for the team. I'd have to go hunt for that response though.

Yeah please share if you find it because I don't remember them addressing it directly.

Plus, in this instance, I don't really care what they say, because that excuse doesn't work (see 2009/2010 production and setlist...). So, there's definitely something else behind it (such as, wanting be as consistent as possible, having maximum energy and endurance, pleasing casual fans etc.). I still don't think this justifies keeping the setlist exactly (100%) the same for every goddamn show and also completely ignoring Insomniac as well as other great songs on RevRad, but it's still an argument you can make, unlike the ''production though'' argument. Sorry, longtime green day fan here, love the boys and all of their work, but this (like the lack of social media presence and the lack of any signs for a live album / Dvd) has me frustrated a bit. I can't help it... *rant mode* over lol

Fair enough, the argument Matika always makes on Twitter is that they want to maintain the energy, which sort of makes sense, because they must have everything down so well by now they can do everything almost effortlessly. Everything goes so smoothly during the show and maybe it's thanks to that.

Pleasing causual fans is a huge factor though, in my opinion.

They don't need to justify it or make excuses . Changing a setlist isn't a requirement or something that's owed to anyone, or the only factor that makes a show good/bad/different. It's just part of how they want to play their shows, a stylistic choice.

I haven't been keeping up with the shows much, why was the Wrigley show so important? Seemed like there was a lot of hype for it. heck, Green Day even made a new line of merch for the occasion.

It seats around 40,000, when most of their other venues this time around have been around 10,000-18,000.  Plus only a handful of acts play at Wrigley every year and it's an iconic location (and it pains me to say that as a Sox fan, but it's true).

Plus, ya know, Chicago's awesome.

Yeah ever since Wrigley started holding concerts anyone who got the chance to play there has considered it a huge deal. It used to be the only acts who'd go there are ones that were important or with prestige. Now, they're not so picky. Not saying Green Day doesn't deserve it, they totally do, but some of the other acts Wrigley has seen over the years? Blek.

Btw, anyone know if the Wrigley store still had any GD merch left or am I stuck with ebay?

Not a bad video, though the discussion lacks depth.
