Green Day's Armstrong: The One Thing I Regret About 'Uno, Dos, Tre' Trilogy

Billie seems significantly less critical of the trilogy than last year, says albums should have been published at once.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was recently asked whether he regrets the three-album strategy of the band's 2012 "Uno, Dos, Tre" trilogy.

He told Guitar World: "Oh no. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have put all three records out at the same time. I wouldn't have staggered them. That was the only thing.

"But that was just this crazy time for us. Just throw down some songs and it's all about the moment. Don't think, just play. Don't think, just write. If it's flawed in any way, it's because it's me unfocused. But I think that's the beauty of it too."

Last year, Billie shared a few far more critical comments of the trilogy, telling Q Magazine: "Those records have absolutely no direction to them. It was about being prolific for the sake of it. So we were just going and going."

He also told Kerrang: "I was pretty fuzzy. It was pretty cloudy in my head, so I can't really remember that much about it. It was great and I think there were some really great songs on there, but it's... You know, we took a break. We took the sort of break we needed."

#TBT 2005: Green Day Talks 'American Idiot' and Best Moment of 2004

The punk rock musicians discuss one of their most pivotal albums in a throwback interview with Fuse

It's hard to believe that over a decade has passed since Green Day blessed the world with American Idiot, the band's career-defining seventh album that featured singles "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and, of course, "American Idiot."

When asked in a 2005 interview how much they care about critics, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong simply said, "It's great. I mean, we just want people to like our music. It's out there for everyone to enjoy."

Armstrong also shared how momentous it was to actually perform American Idiot in its entirety, which was just as important as recording the album.

Green Day star Tré Cool visits Manchester's cat cafe before arena concert

The drummer rocked up to the Northern Quarter venue this weekend ahead of the band's Manchester Arena show last night

He might be all punk rock rebellion on stage, but out of the spotlight Green Day drummer Tré Cool is just a big softie.

The musician took some time out from his hectic touring schedule this weekend to pay a surprise visit to Manchester's cat cafe with wife Sara Rose ahead of the band's Manchester Arena show last night.

The couple played with Norwegian forest cat Ygritte and posed for pictures with staff and customers before meeting the Northern Quarter cafe's two newest residents - Siamese kitten Stanley and Ragamuffin kitten Hugo.

Posting a picture of the encounter on Instagram, Tré wrote: "Thanks Manchester! We love coming here! I recommend a visit to the Cat Cafe. These kitties will melt your heart! Good coffee as well!

The Hives: ‘We and Green Day go way back’

The Hives have spoken about their long-running relationship with Green Day, after they were announced to support them at their upcoming show at Hyde Park this summer.

Along with the likes of Rancid, Gogol Bordello, The Living End, Beach Slang, SWMRS, Sunflower Bean and Public Access TV, The Hives will be supporting the punk giants as they headline the night at British Summer in London in July.

“I really like playing with Green Day. We’ve played with them before, they always do a really great job,” The Hives frontman Pelle Almqvist told NME. “We met them for the first time back in ’94  when they played a show in our hometown. Our rehearsal space was their dressing room. So, I guess you could say that we go way back.”

Almqvist continued: “This was like before ‘Dookie’. I guess they’d just made ‘Dookie’ but it didn’t come out yet. We’ve known each other for a long time.”

Speaking of his fondness for ‘Dookie’, he added: “It’s a great record. It sort of sounds like the [inaudible] or something to me. I love that record. At the time I was at a young, impressionable age too.”

Damn right! That's the time to let everything go and be stars. They rock hard every time. They'd have to have bad stomach issues or some shit to have a seriously off night.

Interview: The Interrupters talk latest tour!

So you’ve been touring with Green Day, what has been your highlight so far?

The highlight for us has been playing our music for lots of people who have never heard of us before! Also, we get to watch Green Day every night and they put on the best show! It’s been such an unreal experience!

Was it a real honour to be told that you would be touring with Green Day?

We were all in shock when we were first offered the tour. Being the only other band on the bill is beyond an honour. It definitely inspired us to rise to the occasion and get our live show super tight and make a gigantic backdrop!

What has been your funniest moment on tour?

Green Day came up and pranked us on stage during ‘Babylon’ at our London set. They were all dressed in costume, put tape over our mouths and blindfolded us. We didn’t know who was who until Billie Joe took off his mask at the end! It was a part of the song that had harmonies we were really focused on nailing but we couldn’t because we were all laughing!

Basket Case has been certified Gold in the UK today, indicating sales of 400,000 copies.

It's their 4th song to be certified Gold in the UK following American Idiot, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Good Riddance.

What a silly article. I'd like to see Billie's face when being called "the Donald Trump of pop punk"... (or maybe not :P

My guess is that an official announcement will come eventually. I doubt BBC would completely make it up.

Billy Jo . Honestly so badly written I could hardly get through it and am still unsure of their point, they never explain how Green Day killed punk rock or even talk about their music. A lot of waffle.
