I posted this same thing under pictures (of album cover) too, cause I don't where these things belong to ^^

I was wondering, as many others here in several threads, that is the radio on the cover a real burning radio... So I wrote an email to Frank Maddocks via his internet pages and asked it.  And he/they were kind enough to answer that it actually is a real burning radio!

I don't know about you, but for me it makes all the difference that it is real! I can't help but wonder if it was Tre that lighted to thing up! xD

If Green Day self produced the album, tuned (or what you call it) their guitars and drums themselves and basically did everything self, so naturally they also used a real radio and set it on fire, haha!

It does sound like a Tre thing to do (he smashed a television and set his drums ablaze during a concert after all).

EXCLUSIVE: Jimmy Eat World Got Pranked By Green Day & Blink 182 On The Road

PB: Were there any good stories from touring with Green Day and Blink back then?

Jim: I think the biggest memory that sticks out in my mind is the last show we did on the tour with them. Green Day is notorious for pranks...and they all teamed up against us. I remember earlier in the tour I had made some comment to one of the Blink guys about the pyro they were using, specifically the "concussion bombs". The things that just like...you end a song like *dana dana dana* *BOOM*. I was like, that'd be cool ya know? So they had this elaborate plan like maybe four songs into our set, nothings happening and there's like a quiet part of the song and *BOOM* (laughs).

PB: And what did the audience do? How did they react to that?

Jim: We tried to hold it together, everyone was shocked. But that was just the start of it. The whole show! It ended up with people covered in glitter and dehydrated potato flakes falling on us from the rafters and people on stage dancing around, it was pretty hilarious.

This is cool to know indeed! Makes me dislike the cover less now there's something interesting about it :P

I actully also wrote to the photographer that took the actual photo (Nick Spanos) and asked if it was hard to make and was there anything left of the radio and he kindly replied: "It was a little challenging at first to get the right balance of ambient light because the flames were so bright. Thank goodness we had a test boombox to experiment with. Once I figured that out it was about taking tons of photos very quickly. It melted into a blob of plastic and metal lol."

Awesome! Would be interesting to see a little making of video of it.

I love Noodles and The Offspring, but I really can't agree with the title statement here at all. I understand why he would say that though, obviously. It reminds me of what a politer, somewhat classier version of Bruce Dickinson's rather childish attacks on Metallica a few years ago would have sounded like, honestly. I'm not a fan of musicians proclaiming how their band is "better" than another one, especially one that I also happen to love.

Yeah, it's completely unnecessary and it happens to be one of the most washed-up methods how to create publicity when the band doesn't really have very much to say.

This might have been posted already, but the masks from the Bang Bang video are for sale in the store:

There are gonna be far too many people wearing these at shows...

Whoever comes with it to a show is getting sued by me.

The thing looks scary! :P It would make a cool Halloween costume. Zombie Joe or something.

I might get one for Halloween though!

It would be a little too creepy for a show for my taste but perfect for Halloween.
