We should start a gdc go fund me page to see if we can come up with the 3.9m

If enough of us put money in we could buy it and turn it into GDC headquarters  A refuge for all lost Green Day fans and a convenient base in the bay area where spies could collect information on the band's every move. Think you can plan a secret show in the future? Think again!! :P

Wonder where Billie will store all the cars he owns, but hasn't sold, once Jingletown is sold?

Idiot Nation will give them away in future competitions, you know how great IN is :P

That "opportunity for redevelopment" at the end scares me, it basically means "if you want to knock this down and build over it then go ahead". What I think would be cooler, and fitting with #mynewband, is if they co-ran it with Gilman St. or something similar, let people who can't get into a regular studio use it instead of giving music a $3.9m paywall.

Maybe they took the doors with them and replace them with normal doors before they left. I like to imagine these things. :P

seeing as they have kept the bookmobile yeah, this seems plausible

Or they are retiring.

You're giving me a heart attack :lol: Didn't Billie once say something like the only way out of Green Day is in a coffin? I rely on that one.

Yeah, he said it at gigs a few times.

but maintaining a studio like that is very very expensive

He also said that 99 Revolutions is the best song he ever wrote.

*One of the best :P. But he's said variations of the only way out of the band being in a coffin thing on several occasions so I think we're good :D

The number one rule of GDC as I understood it: Ignore 100% of what Billie says when he's onstage and talking in interviews because he's just talking crap. 99% of the time this is what fans actually do. 1% of the time they cling to some vague hope that he was totally serious that regardless of all possible future events in decades to come, even if the members despise each other, want to do completely different things with their lives or move to Guatemala they will remain together as a band until they die. Fans believe this despite Billie and Mike saying how they called each other before American Idiot in 2003 and asked "Do you even want to do this anymore?" and despite Mike saying Billie's rehab was killing all of them in 2012/13. Billie said he nearly lost his band and his family in Rolling Stone. Just saying, clearly none of them are dead yet but the band nearly was a few times. Carry on people. Sorry for pooping on anyone's day :P:P:P

Yeah of course you're right, we'll never have a guarantee that they will carry on until they die, I mean, not everyone can be the Rolling Stones  Every band has to go through tough times and the fact that they had very tough times especially in the last few years and didn't split up shows that things like this can make you stronger. Every crisis can make you stronger, or it can break you, it's like in real life. So I'm optimistic ;p

If they ever break up, I want them to do it in a punk way. Like during a physical fight on stage or something like that.

You know not everything Billie or fans say is intended to be taken literally right? It's just a positive sentiment about wanting the band to last, pretty sure almost everyone's aware it might not end up literally being true but most can see there isn't any need to say so.

Plenty of bands don't make statements about wanting to stay together as long as they possibly can, or even say they plan to stop when they get "too old", I think the fact Green Day do is certainly a good sign that there's a decent chance they'll last a long time even if (obviously) not a guarantee.

They have lasted nearly 30 years. That is a long time :P

Green Day’s JingleTown Studio on the Market for $3.9M

The JingleTown Recording studio which has seen the likes of Iggy Pop, Machine Head, Smash Mouth and Green Day (who purchased the 16,000 square foot studio complex at 829 27th Avenue in Oakland’s Jingletown neighborhood and opened it up to the public in 2012) is quietly on the market for $3.9 million.

According to the marketing materials, while the well-established studio could be used by a new owner-user, the flexible spaces offer the “possibility for live-work or co-working conversion.” And the offering memorandum touts: “opportunity for redevelopment.”

Does anyone know if the studio equipment is included in the price?  If so that would be a good way to encourage buyers to keep with the recording heritage of the building.  It would be sad to see it become offices or something.

If I had $3.9M to spend I'd buy it and turn it into a museum.
