Beerjeezus
I doubt it. Most people would mention having an astronaut uncle. It's too damn cool. I wouldn't shut up about it if my uncle had been to moon. Someone put it up on Wikipedia because they found it funny. It's a quite common last name.

It's so lame though.
PurpleIron1039
Not sure if this has already been posted but here: I don't agree with the guy's opinion of "Bang Bang" but I respect his right to have one. He seems like he might kind of be a metal fan...I guess our tastes vary greatly from person to person. The comments section (what I've seen of it, at least) is rather cancerous, predictably. He sings "doing someone else's cocaine" in Jesus of Suburbia. But I can't think of any more recent references to it. Really the most ridiculous article I've seen in a while when you read down past the title and there's not even any vague reference to cocaine from Billie in either an interview or song, it's just completely fabricated. 5 hours ago, Maid Meringue said: Idk if anyone has put this up yet, but here's a Rolling Stone podcast titled "Listen to 'Rolling Stone Music Now' Podcast: Green Day Talk New LP" Skip ahead to 10:00 to hear the interview because the first 10 minutes are just mush.http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/music-now-podcast-billie-joe-armstrong-on-green-days-new-lp-w435701 Yeah it got posted in the Revolution Radio thread (is kind of easy to miss stuff in there though)
solongfromthestars
I doubt those journalists have even done that much research. Looks like they just stuck a random rock star stereotype on him based on the Kerrang quote and hoped no one would notice. If it did come from Jesus of Suburbia I'm not sure if that's more or less ridiculous
Hero_Of_The_Hour
The mention of cocaine as the particular drug responsible for his "memory loss" is less of an issue than the fact that they pulled together pieces of loose information to try to make a story interesting. By now most of the developed world knows Billie Joe Armstrong had a decades long drug problem and used a multitude of different types of drugs from prescription to meth and acid etc. He's already said he suffered blackouts and it was himself who said that he didn't remember most of the recording process of the trilogy and that it was "cloudy" and "fuzzy" which happens to have been right before he entered rehab for addiction. So they said cocaine rather than meth. Cocaine rather than prescription drugs. The reality is Billie himself told Rolling Stone he didn't want to say the exact drugs he was doing so obviously people (especially journalists) are going to fill in the blanks. A lot of people don't think he meant he didn't want to say what brands of prescription drugs, he meant as well as the prescription drugs and that's clearly the angle taken here. Regardless it's bad journalism. I'd be less hung up on the mention of cocaine though. Billie wasn't afraid to sing about it himself.
Beerjeezus
I actually think they chose cocaine because it fits the rockstar stereotype the best. (I might go and read the whole article now that I got into this conversation haha) I don't really care about the writer's thought process, what concerns me is this: is this kind of publicity better than no publicity or is this rather negative from marketing standpoint? I'm not really sure how exactly this works but people sure are likely to remember him after reading this (and probably will go "wow he's not that cooked" next time they hear about him). Not saying it's making his public image any better but maybe it's still better than nothing.
Hermione
I'm not too worried about it affecting him, he's been open about drugs so it's like whatever. Just garbage journalism is annoying.

desertrose
10 Music Videos That Didn’t Deserve to Win a MTV Video Music Award Green Day – “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” Out of all the music videos produced from songs off American Idiot, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” is probably the most boring one. (Like, at least “Wake Me Up When September Ends” — albeit long — had an actual story with plot.) Notable losers for 2005’s Video of the Year include Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks” and Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”. How Green Day won is seriously B-A-N-A-N-A-S. http://www.celebuzz.com/2016-08-27/mtv-video-music-awards-vmas-winners-losers-fail/ 6 Biggest Video of the Year Upsets in MTV VMA History 5. 2005: Green Day vs. Kayne West With Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams taking" the win, 2005 was the year the word "Jesus" was flying out of everyone's mouth—and it was not in the usual church circumstances. Rather, it was due to everyone reciting the famous "Jesus Walks" lyrics as they jammed to West's music video. http://www.eonline.com/news/789763/6-biggest-video-of-the-year-upsets-in-mtv-vma-history MTV VMAs Hall Of Fame: The Awards Show's 14 BIGGEST Winners 7. In fact, only Madonna can claim more appearances on the awards show’s stage. Over the last two decades, the pop-punk trio has grown from camera-shy twenty-somethings to center-of-stage showmen asking spectators if they want to be on TV. desertrose
Florence Welch on Covering Green Day, Quitting Drinking It's hard to imagine, but you were really into skate punk. The first CD I ever bought was Green Day's Dookie. It was my first clue that there could be a whole identity around the music you liked. I had the shoes and the world's baggiest cords. The only thing I didn't have was a skateboard. You even recorded a complete cover of Green Day's Nimrod a few years ago. I was going to see punk bands, and [producer-artist] Dev Hynes and I bonded. We were talking about how we loved Nimrod, and we recorded it in his kitchen with just his guitar. It's out there on the Internet! Later, I met Billie Joe Armstrong, and he told me he liked it. My 13-year-old self's head was exploding somewhere in the past. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/florence-welch-talks-covering-green-day-quitting-drinking-20160511

desertrose
Holy Cow: The Statues Have Arrived Several cow statues have popped up all over the city this week, with hopes of drawing attention to a cause. Dana Yarger, a Dana Point resident and an ambassador to the Elephant Parade, began looking for a new project to bring to the city. “Since the city had a good support with the elephants, I think the city will engage with the cows,” Yarger said. After gaining the recommendation from the City’s Arts and Culture Commission, the City Council approved of the statues, bringing Cowabunga Dana Point to the city. “We’re happy to be hosting this,” said Assistant City Manager Mike Killebrew. “The City Council has been interested in the art in public places for several years.” The statues will be auctioned off at the end of the summer with proceeds going to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. The camp is a program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California which hosts children diagnosed with cancer and their families. http://www.danapointtimes.com/holy-cow-the-statues-have-arrived/
