Is Billie Joe going to be St. Jimmy? He'd probably like to.

There's no way to tell. My guess is that he is because he's the first choice of a star to cast so that people watch it.

He was originally announced as St. Jimmy in the movie.  However, I question whether he is age appropriate.  He seems a bit old for the part.  But I will admit, the instagram post he made looks very St. Jimmy.

That would suck if HBO is going to produce the film. I was really hoping for a theatrical release. But we will see what is true and what not.

Why?  HBO does some amazing work with its movies and TV shows.  Just because the movie is made for TV does not mean it won't be top quality.  Plus, it has been in limbo for so long I would just be happy to see it made finally.

I don't think he's age appropriate but he did very well in the part on Broadway and he could pull it off again. I think they will cast him in the movie despite his age. He was older than anyone else in the Broadway show too, wasn't he?

HBO has done a lot of good movies and shows - it's a good thing if they're doing it.

Agreed, but if he does do it, and this is true, it may take away from touring time.  I guess he will just have to cut out Australia.

That's true. Certain someone doesn't have to worry about KFAD on the setlist anymore.

I don't think it matters how old St Jimmy is... He's more of an abstract idea of the dark side.

Yeah I don't think they ever had an actor younger than late 30's playing him on Broadway, even a 50 year old woman (Melissa Etheridge) did it. If this is still a movie based on the musical rather than the album itself that we're talking about (which is what the originally planned one was going to be, don't know about this) then age wouldn't matter, the character just has to seduce Johnny/JoS over to the dark side rather than being a teenage alter ego.

Wow I didn't know Melissa Etheridge played Jimmy. I knew she was in the show but had no idea what chacter she played. For some reason I think it's very cool.

Yes, but he is supposed to be the abstract idea of the dark side of Johnny.  However, I agree, it is the one character in the show that can be ageless

I'm perfectly fine with Billie playing St. Jimmy.  He just has to cut Oz out of the tour cycle to fit it in.

Just an FYI, Melissa Etheridge, she's no Billie, but not bad

Come to think of it, Jimmy being older makes sense. He's the dark side of the character - looking more run-down, being older - a self that has been through much more is a part of it. He's more of Johnny's future ego. He seduces Johnny to become himself - if he is an alter ego, he's actually a version of Johnny that he could become in the future. He has that in himself but it's not what he is now. The character of Jimmy reflects on this side of Johnny's personality but he isn't real. He's a future prospect that never fulfills - he kills himself and Johnny's future is different  (he doesn't become Jimmy).

That s pretty good, but I took it as the person Johnny wanted to be, that out going, gregarious person that he was not.  This is one of the beautiful things about this show, it has a story but is really open to interpretation.  Every time I've seen it I've gotten something else out of it.

I could be completely wrong, of course. I think these two interpretations don't rule each other out.

I don't think any interpretation is ruled out, it is a very abstract show.

What's the reason behind International Superhits getting back into the Billboard 200?

I think just because there's been mentions of Green Day being in the studio and it's put the band in people's minds.

Hmm maybe, but International Superhits isn't exactly the most obvious GD album to rush out and buy.

Well it is a Best of, good starting point I suppose. Can't think of what else would've caused it.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  I could understand AI coming back into the charts because of the US election but really outside GD's core fans they have done a single thing to attract a new following.
