ok so the last paragraph in that write up makes me definitely think that things are happening right now. I know that quote is over a year old, but it says that green day are new to SESAC and I don't think they'd say that the band is currently working on their 12th album if something isn't going to be happening soon

Too bad there's no new press pictures yet!!  The one they used is at least 6 years old!

Do you know what SESAC does?  In a short form, they monitor an artists songs for royalty purposes.  So basically if someone uses a GD song and doesn't pay for the right, this organization is responsible for finding that and charging them for royalties.

Considering what they do, I would think they would be aware of release dates of new music.

Green Day joined SESAC already a while back though.

They did but they are featured on their magazine this month.  In the article they stated how they are working on their 12th studio album.  I would think SESAC would be in the know.

12 of the best major label debut albums

Green Day – Dookie

Raise your hand if you owned Dookie, on cassette or CD, in 1995. The fact that most likely every single person reading this who came of age in that era is raising their hand right now (you can put it down by the way, you look silly) is a testament to how successful Green Day’s major label debut was. Dookie made Green Day into huge international stars, and proved punk rock could be a viable driving force in mainstream rock radio. It remains the band’s highest selling album, having moved an astounding 20 million copies.

Green Day: 15 Interesting Facts You Didn’t Know

http://ppcorn.com/us/2016/03/28/green-day-15-interesting-facts-you-didnt-know/

5 Spot: Before Live singer's Fargo concert, other mid-1990s rock albums worth revisiting

Green Day, "Dookie" (Feb. 1, 1994): The fake British accents were awful, the band about as punk as a nun, but who cares when the album is this much fun. Green Day's record set the stage for the pop-punk wave in the 2000s, but nothing could top the joy of this album that still comes through all these years later. Roll down your windows, crank up "Basket Case" and enjoy the sounds of punk in suburbia.

Not a very good attempt. That guy should have used more standard metal style because this one is more like 'Amon Amarth meets Green Day' LOL! Guitars on BOBD are good though but those weird time signatures are ruining the quality of songs.

Sorry but that was nowhere near a good argument and didn't expected it from you. I do praise his talent and not to mention I'm more into that kind of music, I was only trying to say that covering Green Day's music with blast beats and extreme metal like time signatures are actually overshadowing the goodness of those songs. No offense, peace out.

Do you know what a time signature is?  I have no problem with discussing the musical merits of a professional, but this guy having fun.  Personally I think he did a great job.

They're using that quote only to refer to their next album, so by that I'd say that they're saying nothing new. But being who they are, if they featured Green Day right now it might mean something. They wouldn't give away more information so they used that old quote.

4/4, 9/8, 12/8 etc. etc. now continue telling me that many of GD songs are beyond 4/4.

OK good, what does that mean?

Whatever time signature a GD song is in has no relevance to a cover.  That is the beauty of music, you can do whatever you want with it.

FYI, Brutal Love is 6/8 and the beginning of Before the Lobotomy is 7/8, but yes most GD songs, most songs in general are in 4/4

I really don't know technically more about it but you know what I'm talking about that unusual high pitch riff made after almost all songs (I'm unable to describe it properly, my bad) that is often found more in modern metal but it would have sounded way more natural if covered in 'New Wave British Heavy Metal' style or more traditional sound. Now you will again go on saying "does that really matter?" or "whatever may be the style but music is still god" so anyway I found his cover good but it could have been sounded a bit more natural. I hope you're understanding.

A time signature is simply how to count the song.  So 4/4 would indicate 4 beats per measure.  So for 4/4 ypu would count 1,2,3 4.  For 3/4 you would count 1.2.3, etc.  I don't think that is what you meant.

I personally think he did a very nice job, much better than I could have done

And the bottom number tells you what gets one beat. 4 on the bottom is a quarter=1; 8 on the bottom is and eighth note (the one with the flag) =1. So Brutal Love in 6/8 is written with 6 eighth notes; which are divided into 2 sets of 3. This division, by the way, makes 6/8 an example of compound meter. You can count it in 6, or in a slow 2, form the 2 sets of 3. There is also Common Time, which is a letter "C" =4/4, and Cut time, which is 2/2....

Got me geeking out on meter!
