Cassettes role back into fashion: Format follows vinyl with huge boost in sales after acts start releasing albums on tape

We worked with Green Day to produce a cassette version of their Dookie album, but most of the acts are young and unknown — for now.’

i really hate that tapes are making a comeback. I go to a lot of punk shows where bands sell tapes and i buy em if they don't have anything else to sell but still, i need a new tape player and haven't found an affordable one online yet that has really good reviews

My dad had one about 10 years ago because he used to have loads of tapes that he ended up burning onto CDs but he then threw it out since it was notorious for chewing up the fucking tape.

Yeah, vinyl being popular makes sense because the sound quality actually is better but tapes are shit.

I agree, I lived through tapes already in the 80's and they sucked then, and they suck now.  They don't last, they don't sound good, and the machines chewed them up. Now vinyl on the other hand is superior. I bought American Idiot on vinyl in December and it sounds glorious! It is like hearing it new again.

Insomniac is #80 and Dookie #5 on Loudwires best Hard Rock/Metal albums of the 1990's.  I'm not sure how they classify as Hard Rock or Metal, but I guess they are more than Kid Rock, who is also on the list.  But, it's always nice to see our boys get some recognition.

Well Punk Rock is evolved from Hard Rock, so why not?

They are also in Loudwire's list of "Top 50 anticipated Hard Rock/Metal albums 2016".

Kind of reminds me of ultra-hip journalists citing Dookie as Buzzcocks carbon copy, but none of Green Day members has even ever hear of them before. Silly geese. In fact, this even urged Billie to check Buzzcocks out. Or that "faux British accent" thing - just ugh.

As if everything Buzzcocks did post-reformation isn't the same anyway :P

19 artists who have been suspiciously quiet recently

Green Day - The band made a few appearances in 2015, including their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, with no new album for almost 4 years, we're hoping that their 2015 Christmas song was a sign of new things to come.

I collect tapes, but I never pay more than a dollar for them. If anything they're just a novelty for me. So I really don't understand why the hell they're making a huge comeback. They're not convenient or even have great audio quality. So I totally agree with you they suck unless you just want it for a collection. I don't even plan to pull out a walkman and carry around a bunch of tapes to listen to. I just don't friggin get it.

Not strictly 'news' but an interesting thread here about Billie Joe's vocal range

http://therangeplace.forummotions.com/t3050-billie-joe-armstrong?highlight=billie

That's interesting, I wonder if they are counting falsetto for his upper notes, or if he hits those in chest voice, or a mix.  He sounds like he has had some voice lessons/coaching and he can control the placement of his notes.  His breath support is fantastic.  Also, I wouldn't classify him as a tenor; IMO he is a high Baritone. I have worked with a lot of singers, and  Tenor vs. Baritone is more than just range, it is also a vocal tone quality.

I can't open the video so could you please let me know what it's about?

Try again? I had accidentally made it private. It's public now. Either way, the character is talking about bisexuality and mentions how Lady Gaga and Billie Joe identify as bisexual.

What's the best way to embed a video on here?

That is interesting! They missed Rotting as an example of his lowest notes but it's cool to see the songs listed like that. And since Green Day is by far the easiest musical act to sing along to that I know, just with the very lowest notes being slightly difficult, I'm concluding from this that I'm a contralto :P
