Yeah sure they were going to write with Billie.

I was gonna write Billie myself a few months ago but I Didn't have enough days off left at work this year so we re scheduled for next year. Billie seemed very disappointed I wasn't available this year.

Really - why don't you think this would be true & why would you think they would say it if it wasn't - BJ seems to be spreading it around at the moment.

because it just wouldn't add up. Billie has no history of working with people like this. Yes he has worked with others in the past but not like 5sos. If I believed he could write with them, then I'd have to believe he could write with One Direction or Justin Bieber or Paris Hilton. And if Billie did say he was too busy with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to them, I choose to believe that this was just Billies polite way of saying "not a fucking hope in hell"

Uhhhh, no. No, no, no. 5sos, with Bj, that... I can't see that even being a good pairing.

what are you talking about???

I said I choose to believe Billie was being polite by saying he was busy. That in no way implies inside knowledge.

Believe it or not people will think you are a complete asshole if you just say it out right there is "not a fucking hope in hell" I'll work with you. There are better ways of letting someone down, like coming up with an excuse as to why you can't work with them.

Seeing as they wrote with all time low, simple plan, sum 41, madden brothers, I'm sure it's no surprise that they were gonna get billie in as well. Plus, in the interview they even say something along the lines of "would you rather do the rock n roll hall of fame or write with a little shitty band".

Sorry but Green Day isn't at all like the bands you just listed.

5 Seconds of Summer is actually listed as one of the "influenced by Green Day" bands on their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exhibit. They're probably the most embarrassing one, but still, I'm assuming they pre-approved a lot of what was included on it. Maybe? I don't know.

(Edit: Wait, probably not, because it says Tré was the drummer for their first album, heh. :P)

Honestly, to me, it doesn't seem that farfetched at all for them to reach out. And even if BJ did decline and say they were "too busy," maybe he was just being polite. That doesn't mean he would've necessarily did it if he wasn't busy... it was just a good, timely excuse. Nothing wrong with that.

I mean, he did write with Avicii recently, and the Lonely Island, and Norah Jones...  and lets be honest, all of those pairings sound just as absurd as writing with 5SOS, if not less.

Sorry but Green Day isn't at all like the bands you just listed.

You can't argue that all of those bands were in some way inspired by Green Day, though.

I never said that, but all bands including 5sos were heavily influenced by green day

All those band probably are inspired by green day, but not one of them is in the same league as green day. It does not make the story that Billie was going to write with 5sos anymore credible. Green Day haven't worked with any of those bands and most of them have more musical credibility than 5SOS. So the idea that Billie even entertained the idea of writing with 5SOS seems like complete nonsense really,

So what would you have said a few years ago if someone said he was in talks with the Lonely Island to write a rap called "I Run NY" or an Everly Brothers tribute album with Norah Jones? Or collaborate with a rapper called Lady Cobra for a song called Nightlife?

I don't think it's a crazy idea to think he'd write for them, he's proved to be very open minded about writing for different acts in the past. However because they're massive Green Day fanboys who always come across as being desperate to be seen as a more credible act than what they are (a boy band- nothing wrong with that but why not admit it) it does also sound like "we were gonna write with Billie but he was busy" could be an exaggeration coming from them :P

Billie's kid is friends or at least hangs out occasionally with members of that band so even if Billie did find them tedious he would probably write for them.  Then again his music decisions regarding who he works with etc has been consistently shitty recently so why not :P Whst makes 5SOS version of the story unbelievable is the part where Billie was too busy with the Hall of Fame.  The guy has essentially been retired for the past two years but a weekend in Cleveland ruined what could have been a masterpiece with a younger (obsessed) version of Green Day...tragic indeed.

Honestly, I wouldn't really mind if he did. They're a mildly enjoyable pop(-punk) band. I kinda enjoy them when they're on the radio. Not that I'm happy that they started a surge of new, shitty pop-punk, but I don't mind if he wrote for them. 5SOS is one of few things he surely wouldn't fuck up, their songs are usually quality-wise on the same level as the Trilogy. What's embarrassing is, that it easily could have been his first successful song of this decade.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Billie go to more of a songwriter role in the future.  So, if he writes songs for other people, why not 5SOS?

5SOS are about as punk as NSYNC.

Yeah or they are like those annoying assholes Busted (remember them?) who also thought they were a rock band but were NSYNC with an annoying tendency to jump on the spot. Do people even have ears anymore? If it sounds like a boyband/shitty pop music which can be confused with a One Direction song then it isn't punk or punk rock no matter who the band members fantasize about being in their bedrooms.

Missy Elliot, Trent Reznor, The Bee Gees, Curtis Mayfield, Katy Perry, Pink, Bruno Mars, just a small list of singers that have written songs for other artists.  Try something better than Nickelback.

I don't know. I enjoyed Cleveland a bit, so it wasn't a total loss.

I know that.  But being a songwriter is not a bad thing.
