There's no sense in getting overly excited about this, but yeah, I believe there will be no announcement until they're done. Actually, it will earn them a lot of media coverage when they go foreverly with it. Anyway, I'm not musing about a new album until I can hold it in my hands :D

I kinda think the same way - after the way they handled the trilogy I think it will be much better if all of a sudden they say we have an album to promote.  Im  hoping for this because they can take their time & throw away all the shit & release a good album.

It sounds like a good sign if they're going into the studio! But yeah you can never be sure how long it's actually going to take. Sometimes they do things quickly but they also first went into the studio to work on the follow up to American Idiot at the beginning of 2006, so...

I don't expect the break to last much longer, though. They don't want the world to forget about them.

This is what I was going to say too, for people who worry about them rushing things. There's been times when they go to the studio with songs almost done and times when they go with a couple of songs and a couple of ideas and take ages composing, recording, practicing, changing, etc. So even if they are entering the studio now it doesn't mean necessarily that we'll have an album soon. Tour soon with new album not yet released songs sounds promising though :D

That's what apparently Jason said, no details about when a new album may come out but tour "within the year". I think it could happen, not a long tour or anything but a few shows by next summer? I think it's possible.

it's possible that they'll play some shows but a big tour seems unlikely to me.

If it does happen it'll be in one country, like Glastonbury and a Milton Keynes type show or a few big US dates

Exciting to hear some new gossip whether it be true or not. Definitely itching to hear some new Green Day but I'll wait however long it takes, I like that it's quiet and we don't really know what's going on.

That would be super cool, however, I'd prefer them to play a bit closer to me! :D

I just stumpled across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpbjy5ScELg

This guy is pretty rad! It's a bit old now but I just saw it for the first time and thought I'd share it in case you haven't seen it either :)

That was amazing!

On this day 20 years ago Billie was arrested and fined for indecent exposure onstage in Milwaukee.

Listen to Howard Sterns interview with pop punk band 5 seconds of summer.

In addition to “She’s Kinda Hot,” the group also performed a cover version of Green Day’s “American Idiot.” The four guys are big fans of Green Day, and Hemmings revealed, “We were gonna write with Billie [Joe Armstrong] for the album, but he was busy doing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
