But weren't they with some company that got them compensated when their music played on public before? I thought all big bands had that. Maybe they were with a less restrictive one/ more restrictive one before? I know here in Spain there's companies that issue BARS for playing music of their signed artists, and some that don't. I wonder why this move now.

I don't know who they used to get their compensation before, but from reading the company's website, it seems like they take it a step further.  For example, it sounds like they would police the internet.   If you personally create a video, and use a GD song, they would pick up on that.   I would imagine they would either tell you to take it down or send you a bill.  I'm not exaclty sure how they handle the money aspect.  I would also imagine they might monitor news articles for potential use in events, etc.

I don't know if that is exactly right but that is what I think they do.

13 Green Day Songs That Sound Like Songs By Other Artists: http://dyingscene.com/news/13-green-day-songs-that-sound-like-songs-by-other-artists/

I think Rancid sensed the same thing. The year before, Rancid had blown up in sort of a minor, low-key way — riding to cult stardom in the wake of their friends in Green Day and the Offspring, who’d found actual stardom. (***)  The band co-produced the album with Jerry Finn, who’d mixed two Green Day albums (including Dookie) and who’d just produced one for Rancid’s relatively cleaned-up labelmates Pennywise. http://www.stereogum.com/1825540/and-out-come-the-wolves-turns-20/franchises/the-anniversary/

A year earlier, the Warped Tour kicked off and was a huge success. Major labels began picking up little punk bands and plunging big money into punk scenes everywhere. Two other California punk bands, Green Day and the Offspring, exploded onto the mainstream and began taking over the biggest music outlets.

Green Day won a bajillion awards in 2005–even the most coveted Video of the Year for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”–and honestly, we gotta give it up to them for always keeping their skinny-jeans-and-creepers look on lock throughout the years.

Punk hair styles were popularized by style icons like Billie Joe Armstrong, Glen Matlock, Lenny Kaye, Siouxsie Sioux, Johnny Rotten, Lenny Kaye, Patti Smith, Shane McGowan, Glen Matlock, and Topper Headon. Mohawk hairstyle is an adaptation of the the punk style.

Laura Jane Grace interview: Punk's transgender pioneer on her struggle for acceptance

Grace soon discovered music, particularly that of the 1980s metal bands that blurred gender lines with the help of lipstick and hairspray. Later, she discovered Green Day and Nirvana, gateways to her love of punk. It seems surprising, I say, that she should have been drawn to a genre known for its machismo. "For me, the attitude seemed more about fighting back, and I thought, 'OK, well, if I'm going to get beaten up, at least I'll get a couple of punches in.' There was also the feeling that punk rock was a place for misfits and freaks, and those were the kids I associated with. The nihilism was attractive, too. When there's a punk band singing 'No future' to you, you feel like, 'Yeah, no future. I'm never making it out of this place alive.'" http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/laura-jane-grace-interview-punks-transgender-pioneer-on-her-struggle-for-acceptance-10464360.html

Airport chaos: Jason Derulo and 9 rowdy celebs

1. ‘I’m just trying to get to my [expletive] seat’

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was chucked off a plane for refusing to hoist up his sagging trousers, in September 2011. According to an ABC producer, who happened to be on the same flight, Armstrong responded with, “don’t you have better things to do than worry about that?” when challenged by the flight attendant. Apparently not. When he failed to comply, Armstrong was shown the exit. His angry tweets about the incident only add to its delightful absurdity.

-“Word got out that there was somebody who could play like Van Halen,” says Cole, who taught guitar to preteen Billie Joe Armstrong at Fiat Music school in Pinole. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong who introduced the rock band at the ceremony said back then, "Most singers are crazy. I can vouch for that." I think nothing has been posted here on GDC about the Oakland A's "Green Day Fireworks Night" on September 5th.

"The Oakland A's are pleased to celebrate Green Day's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans can enjoy the recorded music of the East Bay natives and long-time A's fans which will be set to the post-game fireworks show. Fans are invited to watch the fireworks from the field, but please note that space is limited". http://www.greenday.com/news/green-day-fireworks-night-7222671

Do you think the band is going to make an appearance? Play anything? Do a secret show in Kentucky to prepare for a secret show in Oakland so I don't feel I lost all my money going to NiFi in nothing? :P

Got my tickets !  Can't wait.  It was mentioned today on TV during the game and the announcer said that they will be there at the game.  So maybe another throwing out of the first pitch like last time.

Watch Foo Fighters Rickroll Westboro Baptist Church

proto-pop-punk helped beget hardcore punk, thrash punk, and other styles that sought to be even more abrasive and less accessible than their progenitors — and, in kind, the wholesale embrace by the mainstream public of more radio-friendly acts such as Green Day and The Offspring in the mid-1990s undoubtedly helped give us its equal and opposing force: the indomitably DIY Californian punk outfit Rancid.Formed from the ashes of 1980s US ska pioneers Operation Ivy, Rancid "arrived" — in a meaningful sense — on the musical landscape in 1994 with their breakthrough second album, Let's Go, the same year that Green Day and The Offspring would ensnare an entire generation of young music-lovers with their respective iconic albums Dookie andSmash . Where Green Day and The Offspring both looked the part but demonstrably, with their consequent follow-upsInsomniac (1995) and Ixnay On The Hombre (1997) and beyond, kowtowed to the whims of whatever would get them the most airplay Rancid wholly committed to their now-well-established ideals of being as hard, fast and rough-as-balls as possible, yet constantly demonstrated a level of technical musicianship that a passing glance wouldn't reveal beyond the cacophonous instruments and frontman Tim Armstrong's infamously strained and cigarette-addled warble. http://themusic.com.au/news/all/2015/08/24/how-rancids-seminal-third-album-set-them-apart-from-the-90s-punk-pack/

Review: Foo Fighters make a long night a good one at DTE

In other words, the Foos fell somewhere between the improvisational excitement of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and the shamelessy schticky showmanship of Green Day. http://www.themorningsun.com/arts-and-entertainment/20150825/review-foo-fighters-make-a-long-night-a-good-one-at-dte

ANARCHY IN THE U.S.: JOHNNY ROTTEN IS NOW AN AMERICAN CITIZEN

Do you feel your legacy has been perverted?
Yes, it definitely was. One the one hand it’s become violence and thuggery and moronic behavior, and on the other hand you have Green Day, who are coat hangers for studded leather jackets. Both aspects are vile and terrible, and both resent me for being the very person who gave them the voice and opportunity. http://noisey.vice.com/blog/john-lydon-johnny-rotten-interview-2015

STEREOGUM: I think it’s much harder to write about joy and happiness in a way that feels authentic and not ironic. It’s much easier — and it’s taken much more seriously — to be a miserable fuck.

CARPER: You know who does it the best, I think? Green Day. It used to be that everybody would reference Blink-182 in regards to us, but then I think the more kids are growing up listening to our music and they’re all just saying Green Day lately. It’s the happy/sad song thing. I think that’s probably a psychological thing for me, too. I’m kinda drawn to that. We’re trying to step up our game with our shows as well. I mean, all our shows are still going to be energetic, but we’re growing as a band. Maybe we’ll get a backdrop. We just recently got a sound guy. That’s been our new addition to the crew which is … We’ve never had a sound guy before. We just got a merch person. We’ve never had a merch person before. So, it’s just slowly growing. http://stereoday.com/qa-fidlars-zac-carper-on-kicking-drugs-staying-punk-and-sophomore-slumps/

5 ‘Video Of The Year’ Nominees That Didn’t Win But Deserve A Second Look

2005: Kanye West – “Jesus Walks”

What Won Instead: Green Day – “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”

Why It’s Worth Another Look: Having Green Day take home the top Moonman in ’05 seems a bit like having Panic! win the following year: At the time, they were the obvious choices, but looking back, they seem like long-shot nominees given who they went up against. And in 2015, nothing would be a bigger long-shot than Green Day topping Kanye, but hey, 2005 was a different time. ’Ye wasn’t the Video Vanguard Award-winner he is now, and Green Day’s American Idiot was literally everywhere. As an arrival video, “Jesus Walks” is a spectacle and a force to be reckoned with — and it deserves a second look now, just like it will in 2020, then 2025, then forever.
