My best festival memory is…

“Watching Green Day play the Main Stage last time we performed at Reading and Leeds (in 2013). We’ve been lucky enough to tour with Green Day a few times, and besides being one of our favorite bands of all-time, they happen to be one of the biggest bands of all-time, too! It was great to see them absolutely kill it in front of tens of thousands of kids, and it was also amazing to experience them playing Dookie all the way through!”

Nicholas Petricca, lead singer of Cincinnati-based rock band Walk The Moon, has never been shy about being ambitious. “I think we always wanted to be one of those bands like Coldplay or Green Day or The Killers who’ve just been true to themselves but found their way into the world and brought more rock ‘n roll music to the pop world,” he says.

Florence Welch Is the First British Woman To Headline Glastonbury Since 1999, But She's Been Influencing These 7 Celebs for Years 5. Green Day

Green Day are such fans of Welch that they invited her onstage to perform with them. Welch later recalled the event to Rolling Stone, saying, “I got to live out my 11-year-old fantasies – I got to go on stage with Green Day. Billie Joe called my name from the stage. Dookie was the first album I ever bought. I covered the whole of Nimrod and he’d heard it. That was like the 11-year-old girl dreamed.”

Axing a third of Rock Hall nominating panel imperils those who created rock (commentary)

"I don't begrudge things that relate to contemporary stuff because it relates to things before,'' said one dismissed committee member. "There would be no Green Day without the Who, and there would be no Who without Sonny Boy Williamson.''

"No one cares at all about anything anymore. Like, bands get their shirts made by little children in Haiti. No one cares about all the endless giant corporations involved; bands just go from festival to festival. I was disappointed back in 1991 when Green Day went all out".

Interview: Mike Kroeger

Q: Right. Like, when Green Day came back with "American Idiot."
A: (Hesitates) Yeah. Kind of. Obviously, in the period between "Dookie" and "American Idiot," there was a perception shift just because their fans aged, changed, were looking for different stuff, whatever. But yeah, they got to have that second charge. And it was great.

10 Musicians that you may not have known play for the same team or both

Billie Joe Armstrong

Yes, the lead vocalist of multiple Grammy Award winning American punk rock band Green Day, swings both ways. In an interview with The Advocate in 1995, Armstrong said that he thought he had always been bisexual. Referring to the band’s 1994 record ‘Dookie’ and its track ‘Coming Clean’, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Armstrong said that the record touches on bisexuality a lot. It was a song about Armstrong questioning himself. He said that people are acting out what they are feeling: gay, bisexual or transgender, and that opens up something in society that becomes more acceptable.

Less Than Jake drummer and song writer Vinnie Fiorello says “When we started, there was no blueprint to write a song. We’re just writing songs we were really influenced by and we were influenced by Operation Ivy, early Green Day, Screeching Weasel, early Descendents."
