Billie Joe mentioned in article about Jazz Band at Piedmont High which includes Joey Armstrong.

The DDG Quartet did small performances at private parties, as well as performed at PHS Jazz Band concerts. Eventually they decided to make an album and Armstrong, whose father is Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong, suggested they use Green Day’s studio to record.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2015: 10 Outstanding Performances
The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one year after Joey Ramone passed away. Every surviving member attended the ceremony, but they weren't about to attempt a performance without their singer. After Eddie Vedder delivered a stirring induction speech, Green Day took the stage to honor one of their biggest influences. They blasted through "Teenage Lobotomy," "Rockaway Beach" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" at lightning speed. Here's video of the final number.

The 5 great eras of pop-punk, from the ’70s to today

2. West Coast Pop-Punk (1994-1997)

1994 was a big year for pop-punk: Green Day’s Dookie was released and would go on to become a genre staple and the band’s most wide-reaching release (later being certified Diamond for sales of more than 10 million copies). That same year, NOFX would release Punk In Drublic, their most commercially successful album, eventually going Gold. Offspring’s Smash was another massive breakthrough of this era, selling 6 million copies to date. Though Nirvana were far from pop-punk, the path they carved before Kurt Cobain’s death in ’94 helped fuel a mainstream embrace of all things punk, and such the pop-punk genre thrived.

What Revisiting the Bands of My Youth Showed Me

Not many bands can have a career defining album twice and Green Day accomplished that with American Idiot. During a first hearing, the song “American Idiot” sounds like a simple punk song that makes you want to mosh around and feel rebellious.

Ten years later, I finally sat down and listened to the entire album and the message literally punched me straight in the face.

“American Idiot” is all about standing up for what you believe in even if you share the less popular opinion. During a time where America was going to war with Iraq and living in the post 9/11 world, it seemed ludicrous to disagree with anything our government was about to do.

Green Day did disagree with the involvement in Iraq and were very open to expressing their constitutional right of freedom of speech.

With an album opening chanting “Don’t wanna be an American Idiot” it definitely grabbed the nation’s attention and while many were quick to label them anti-American, what they were doing was probably the most American thing that they could do.

An even more political song on the album is “Holiday” and they go as far associating George W. Bush with Hitler, “Seig hail to the president Gasman.”

This album screams to its listeners that they need to stand up and take action if they don’t like what is happening around them, even if you share the least popular opinion, your voice still needs to be heard.

A mention here:

You're familiar with Bilheimer's work. The Austin-based visual artist has designed every one of R.E.M.'s album covers since Monster and each Green Day release since Nimrod.

That article had the potential to be really great, but kind of fell flat. The only one that they really nailed was # 8. Sorry, if you don't know who the Foxboro Hot Tubs are, you are just a casual fan. And # 1? I don't know too many die hard fans that will not list JoS towards the top of their favorite songs.

Yeah, that was pretty shitty, actually. Like, where is the frantic fangirling, the rushing to buy "secret show" tickets, etc.? The real struggles.

I don't struggle with fangirling, I rather enjoy it!

"He looks like a Botticelli angel. We should see if he can sing." That is a priceless line.

I like the article. And I like a lot to read they are so down to earth, close to their family and community, just humble, nice, in a way normal guys living their live and love. As we say it in Germany: head in the sky, feet on the ground. :)

That 10 things article is...pretty dumb. I don't like these fanboys who think they're speaking for everybody.

The other one is incredible! Thanks for sharing. :)
