The 14 '90s Songs You Were Most Embarrassed To Listen To With Your Parents, Because OMG Sex!

10. “Longview,” Green Day

This one was hiding in the plain sight from your parents, until Billie Joe Armstrong says “masturbation” in the middle and the entire house of pop-punk cards came crumbling all around you.

More Embarrassing Than: Accidentally finding your mom’s weird old-timey birth control device and playing with it, because you genuinely had no idea.

My parents introduced me to Green Day through International Supervideos when I was about 3 and Longview opens it, so fortunately I've never had that problem.

I don't find Longview embarrassing to listen to with my kids. The song is about loneliness. It isn't a big deal.

I feel like a bad Green Day fan, but I really didn't like Live Freaky, Die Freaky. It wasn't funny and it was poorly made. Billie was good, but I would never watch it again.

I think BJ didn't fit at all for Charlie Manson. And I never understood why "Mechanical Man" is such a boring song, but everybody loves it...oh, right...BJ sings it, haha

It was worse than some cartoon that kids put together in a high school cartooning class. It just wasn't well done. I thought Billie was fine, but the whole movie was just awful.

I've never even seen it.

I feel better now. You most definitely did not miss anything.

I've never seen it either. I saw a clip of Billie in the studio and he sounded good but the film looks kind of crap.

10 Albums Turning 20 in 2015

Green Day, Insomniac

Green Day followed up the massive success of 1994’s Dookie with 1995’s Insomniac, a much different offering. WithInsomniac, the pop-punk guys unbridled a darker, deeper offering than Dookie, but it still packed some fun tunes, such as the beloved Green Day hit “Brain Stew.”

I enjoy watching it with the director's commentary on. It's basically John Roecker, Jane Wiedlin and Billie drinking wine and talking shit with each other and reacting amusingly to seeing the sex scenes and hearing the voices of people they know.

7 Early 2000 Songs That Totally Don't Mean What You Thought

2. “When September Ends,” Green Day

What You Thought It Was About: A young couple who are dealing with the guy’s deployment in the Iraq War. Come on — I saw the video like 200 times in high school, at least give me this one!

What It’s Actually About: Though the certainly video deals with a couple whose lives are disrupted by the war, the song itself is about the death of singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s father. It’s right there in the lyrics — “like my father’s come to pass/twenty years has gone so fast.”

This song was the band’s second confusing hit in two decades, following 1997’s ”Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)”! Keep on confusing America’s young persons, guys. You’ve earned it!

The blurry lines of artistic credit

When asked about Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" similarity to "Wonderwall," Oasis frontman and industry curmudgeon Noel Gallagher said “They should have the decency to wait until I’m dead.”

Contra Costa Civic Announces 2015-16 Season

Closing out the season, American Idiot comes home to the East Bay where it all started. Based on Green Day's Grammy award-winning album, with book and lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong, book by Michael Mayer, and music and lyrics by Green Day, this Tony Award-winning hit musical, which began life at Berkeley Rep, shatters old rules and breaks thrilling new ground for the American musical. Alex Perez, who helmed last season's smash-hit The Addams Family, will direct and choreograph with music direction by Kevin Roland; the production runs June 10-July 17.

So did Bobby Fuller fight the lawless and the lawless won? We may never know. However, his work will live on, and you can hear "I Fought the Law" everywhere from The Clash's cover to M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" to Green Day's cover of the tune in their Super Bowl Pepsi commercial.
