Bille Joe Armstrong’s Instagram Followers Help Find Lost Dog

When a pitbull named Mochi was stolen from her home in San Francisco, her owners took to social media to let the world know. They had photos of the dog and the person who stole her. The images made their way to Jim Thiebaud, former professional skate boarder and the co-founder of punk label Adeline Records along with Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.

Armstrong himself picked up on Thiebaud’s post, reposting it to his Instagram account, and CBS San Francisco reports that his call to action prompted several of his followers to come out and join the search for Mochi.

In less than a day following Armstrong’s post, and three days since she first went missing, Mochi was found and returned to her home.

Sabina Thompson, one of her owners, offered thanks to members of San Francisco’s meet-up community Flask Mob, where her other owner David Baker works, for spotting Mochi.

10 Artists Who Paid Tribute To Their Parents In Their Music: Green Day, Pink Floyd, And More

7. Green Day - "Wake Me Up When September Ends" (2004)

Though the music video for Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" depicts the death of a young man in the Iraq War, the song's lyrics are actually about singer Billie Joe Armstrong's father, who passed away of cancer when Armstrong was just 10 years old.

The Craziest Rock Star Meltdowns on a Plane of All Time

Billy Joe Armstrong

The Green Day frontman is in serious need of a wardrobe overhaul. At least according to a flight attendant on Southwest, who, on an Oakland-to-Burbank route in 2011, asked the singer to pull up his sagging pants. Armstrong, who was waiting to put his bag in the overhead bin when he was approached by the crew member, replied to the request: “‘Don’t you have better things to do than worry about that?”

According to a fellow passenger, an ABC-TV associate producer, who witnessed the entire argument, the flight attendant repeated: “Pull your pants up or you’re getting off the plane,” to which Armstrong said: “I’m just trying to get to my f - - king seat.” The singer was booted off the flight, though the airline later apologized for the incident.

Since it is a slow news day, even Billboard picked up the dog story. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6436676/green-day-bille-joe-armstrong-instagram-followers-help-find-lost-dog?utm_source=twitter

They better do something soon, or Billie is going to have to start saving something bigger than a dog. Or maybe he can throw on a cape and comb the neighborhood for other misguided pets.

You lot are so boring. I think it's actually a pretty good news story - someone with the power to do so (thousands of followers) spread the word about a missing pet and within a day it was found. It shows a real sense of community brought about by social media. Perhaps it wasn't down to Billie's post that the dog was found but either way, it's still a good story.

I concur!

It is seriously a slow news day if Billie instagraming about a dog is getting this much press. I didn't say it was a bad thing, it is good that the dog was saved. But, if there was more going on with the band this would not have even hit the presses. The one good thing, band wise, is that the news organizations are looking for news about them, so they are printing what they have.

Social media has the powers that can overdimension everything and anything; but at the same time, it may be a lifesaver.

Retweets by famous people have helped people get treatment for lethal illnesses in many cases here, not to mention how useful both Twitter and Facebook were during the great flood of May 2014.

One has to be a hateful cynic to have a problem with an article that might have not pointed out why what happened matters, but it did provide an example, nevertheless.

Or maybe this kind of "slow news" stuff is constantly out there every single day, today is just so happened to be about someone we care about.

There's a picture of the boys from 1995 in Rolling Stone this week (Nicki Minaj cover) on the page about the Rock Hall inductees. :)

Is it an article or just a picture. Is it worth buying?

Here's the scoop on the "dog story". It is not good news, it was a personal gesture that shouldn't overly concern everyone. It was "just another dog" that got stolen, this happens a lot. In this case though, it was someone with some ties to Billie Joe it happened to. So he had two options; post it on Instragram and spread the word to potentially thousands of people in that area or; don't post anything and avoid involving the other 99% of people that live elsewhere. I really don't like it when celebrities use their media outlets to be "heros" or plug friends and family's business. With something urgent like this though, where he can make the real difference, I totally understand why he'd just do it with the risk of someone not liking it. What I think the fans (and apparently some media) then do wrong is becoming personally involved in it, for good or for worse, it's really not a big deal. I feel it was a "hey, if you live in the SF area, please look out for this dog, ok? bye." kind of a message.

If news outlets write "bad" stories — enterprise stories that uncover corruption, devastating breaking news, tragic deaths, etc. — they're told to find more happy stories and to quit clogging up the feeds with so much negativity and hate.

If news outlets write "good" stories, they're mockingly told it "must be a slow news day" and instructed to stop writing fluff pieces.

There's no pleasing anyone, obviously. ;)

Personally, I don't see the problem with writing this kind of story at all. As I said, reporters are always told to find "good" news stories that make you smile, and anyone who's ever lost and found a pet can obviously relate to this story and its happy ending. The fact a celebrity helped out makes it noteworthy. Again, I don't see why it's so "shocking" that this was covered. It's basic quirky celebrity gossip/human interest story material, really.

This story has nothing to do with the popularity of the band or its relevance at this time.

One could argue if the band was active at this time it would make news outlets even more inclined to write about every little thing its members do, just for the general fact that the band would be of greater interest to their readers.
