Cruise
Yeah I know - but ID are doing a stadium tour - lets just hope next time gd do arenas & some intimate venues I really hope they do the intimate venue tour. Actually I really want them to play 1000 capacity venues (although they would need to do a week at least in each city). The Metro in Sydney is amazing and it would be incredible to have them do a show there. They have never really played smalls shows here so it would be excellent. Cruise
They have years back but I would think it would be bigger venues with a sprinkle of smaller ones if it ever happened. I thought Goat island was the only actual small show they did, although I am fuzzy on the early tours and the venues, as most have changed names now. I was thinking the same after I posted that. They could do two big shows in each city then smaller ones in the cities or the smaller cities. So Sydney gets the big show then Newcastle gets a small one. I would like them to do some 18+ shows but I doubt that will happen. 18+ shows just seem so much more casual and not as many arseholes in the crowd. That is definitely not happening. Green Day (on an official US tour) plays Arenas and Amphitheatres. Any label or large venue would be crazy to suggest an age restriction on such moneymakers. They aim to sell out 20,000+ tickets. Now secret shows and side projects, which are normally done in local venues and pubs, can have any age limit they want. This can either be set by the bar itself or by band request. Those shows are more intimate, and due to the size of those venues they have to create some sort of way to limit the crowd, while also making liquor profits (since door usually goes to the touring band). Labels and venues don't handle tours promoters rent out the venue and book the group for whatever date agreed upon Venues don't care if there an age limit or not as they get their money if it's a sold out show or a show with only 1 person in the audience
Maid Meringue
Actually Green Day did say they wanted to do a club tour in Australia before doing a full tour, but it didn't happen after iHeart. That's why I said "official US tour", because I don't know how concerts work outside of the states. If Green Day does a club tour in Australia, or anywhere else, they will have to make it 18+ (or 21+ in the states) to prevent crowding. I think all hell would break loose inside and outside the venues though due to so many people trying to get in. Labels and venues don't handle tours promoters rent out the venue and book the group for whatever date agreed upon Venues don't care if there an age limit or not as they get their money if it's a sold out show or a show with only 1 person in the audience I'm just saying from what I know to be true from where I've worked. Local venues definitely care about age and turnout, as they are mostly bars that try to break even on larger acts and profit from liquor sales. A bar filled with 16 year olds makes no profit. Arenas and Amps care about selling as many tickets as possible because only selling half the venue would be a waste of the sheer size (taking into account cost of energy to keep the place going, paying the staff, and the amount they're paying for the bands to play). Paying for staff and bands are promoters responsibility not the actual venues Like let say I rented say Madison Square Garden I have to pay let's say 30k for the use for the venue plus promoters have to pay for the staff so say 10k for that then whatever the band charges the promoter has to pay that too The only people who care if the show sells is the promoter as he's (or she or they if they have a company) as the venue has made their money the Venue gets paid first and they don't do the "we will see how ticket sales goes" venue gets paid up front so the actual venue really don't care if a show sells out or not Bars no underage shows should be there as most places in the U.S. it's illegal to have underage people in them they'd lose their liquor license in a heart beat
WhiteTim
This reminds me of one of my favorite stories when I worked in music... There was a promoter in a small city in Texas 90 miles from Houston he did well with doing small shows there well he decides he wants to do a mega concert he wants to bring three of the biggest artists in the southern region (I won't name the artists not important who they are) he finds an investor to help him invest he books these artists for a total of 75k all together for help pay this he then charges a whole bunch of new artists to open up so he now has 15 openers and 3 main acts he doesn't want to go to Houston he wants to bring them to his hometown against everybody's warning to not as his town doesn't support these kind of shows since this won't be at a club he rents the biggest venue the city has and since they don't like rap they charge him 20k for a 4 hour rental space he pays 10k to run a radio spot and to give 10 tickets away as contest charges 35-70 for tickets The day comes 30 people show up... 10 of them were contest winners... They did the show one of the main acts said fuck it all yall come on stage and did the rest of his set with the entire audience on stage then told the promoter he could have his money back as he's going to need it to pay that invested back lmao
Maid Meringue
^ I loved that story XD The main acts must have been really good sports. That promoter is one lucky guy, but hopefully he learned his lesson! I kind of forget the middle man. But my point is, turnout is important to somebody and age restrictions do have an effect on whoever that is. If and when Green Day decides to do smaller "intimate" shows, the crowd will have to be controlled somehow, because they're one of the biggest bands in the world. Tickets can be sold in advance only, but that creates issues on its own. Most of the club-types I've seen green day/fbht/phgp play were age restricted (although I have no clue about what they've done since the trilogy so fuck me). But bars do have plenty of shows that are 18+ (which is considered underage for drinking), and there are ones that allow minors depending on the show. They pay an extra like 5 bucks on top of door to cover what drink they may have ordered (if they were of age), and wear X's on their hands (or different color wristbands) to prevent them from buying alcohol. FYI I am in no way bickering with you. I really like to hear your perspectives because I have to remember to think objectively when it comes to this stuff. And I like to fully express myself so I can be corrected!! It's hard to remember that not every show is a dive bar in Florida

It's hard to remember that not every show is a dive bar in Florida Only one main act was nice the others didn't offer to return the money lol We've never heard from the promoter again don't know if he just didn't want to be seen or since he used a street dude to invest something happened but we warned dude not to do it in a town that doesn't support oh well lol But yeah people do care about that I wasn't saying they don't just that the parties that gets their money no matter what happens doesn't really care one way or the other as they already have their fee lol And you're right about the wrist bands I totally forgot about the dives as Houston doesn't have too many we have a lot of straight up bars (cause well we're Texas and we drink lol) And for a while HPD was cracking down on bars too seem like every week a club or bar was closed down over selling alcohol to minors
