Ha!  You my friend are a lover of good music.

Green Day and Bluegrass Green Day.

Weezer and Bluegrass Weezer.

Doesn't get much better for my money. It's the "Pickin' On" series that I love.  They cover so much good music as BG.

edit: I challenge anyone to tell me this version of Good Riddance isn't the best you've heard.;)

Well wow, that was different!  Only listened to She and Good Riddance and still prefer the originals, but thanks for posting!  Hopefully the Twin Atlantic track won't be too bad, they have done a couple of decent songs.

Of course! I am not trying to sell the idea that these are better than the original.  I think it's good enough to enjoy while wanting to hear an old Green Day song you might be sick of.  Of course a like, or even perhaps an unknown like of bluegrass music is necessary.

If you go to 1:20 on the version of GR that you quoted me on, you just can't get that in regular poppy type play.  So it's nothing more than a different way to ingest.  I am not nor would I ever call it better than the originals.  I was just talking about Good Riddance.  She can't be beat by anyone or pretty much any other Green Day song.  I would say that I actually like the bluegrass version of GR a little better to be honest, if I think about it, but that's probably because I am so sick of GR that I can't even listen to it anymore so this provides a way.

I went into town to see if I could get hold of a copy of this earlier today but was told they wouldn't have it until tomorrow.  Not sure if I'll be able to get it then. I did pick up last week's while I was there and there's an article about it with a cool picture of Billie. I don't have a scanner but will try to photograph it tomorrow in the daylight if no one else has posted it then.

I was able to get it today, in WHSmith.  Wonder why your shop doesn't have it?

About to give the CD a listen now.

Cool - you'll have to let us all know what you think. They normally get Kerrang in on the right day but apparently this week it will be tomorrow!

I haven't heard this Kerrang album but I love the cover of She by Goodnight Texas they did at  UnderCover Presents Dookie back in February?? I guess. It's just so good for my ears, they did a great job with that one :)

Ooooh I like this, great cover, and I'm not just saying this because Basket Case is my favorite song. I really liked all small additions to the instrumental track and the backing vocals and the solo.

Green Day IS pop punk

No. Green Day started this genre (which went into wrong direction IMHO) but they are much more than these one-dimensional guys with same voices and same guitars. Give me 100 pop-punk groups, I won't probably find a single difference.

Green Day didn't start pop punk, they were just one of the bands.

Oh come on, I don't say they were the only one but they influenced most of these bands.

Listened to the album all the way through. Opinions, I hear you ask?

Highlights for me are American Idiot (ska, loving it), 21 Guns (t.A.T.u's 'All the things she said' synth mixed with military drums and the Broadway recording. FAVOURITE!) and WMUWSE (standard pop-punk cover, but good!). They're all done with the artist's own slant on it in a way that feels like an honest interpretation. Nice Guys Finish Last was fun too. And Good Riddance with the Scottish accents is real nice. Most the rest sounds fine. Jesus of Suburbia is pulled-off well which I wasn't expecting, some nice guitar licks added to good effect.

There's few generic, boring covers. She doesn't really bring anything new to the party. I can't get behind the take on Welcome to Paradise. The style it's done in sucks the fun out of that song. Waterparks stand out as the try-hards of the bunch, it's a shame they bookend the album. Hitchin' a Ride's weak kazoo-for-violin intro doesn't start them in good stead and All By Myself doesn't work without the charm and familiarity Tré earns over the course of Dookie. Here it just comes off as obnoxious.

Overall, as a 30th birthday gift to Green Day, as the back of the case states this CD to be, it's worth picking up if you can. It's certainly worth the £3.50.

Andy posted this on his page. Hopefully links will go up sometime soon so we can all hear them and judge the tracks.

So far I've heard Basket Case (which I wasn't much of a fan of, it just sounded rushed and careless) and the clip of the chorus from 21 Guns that Andy posted. I'm so damn excited to hear it!!! I've been checking Youtube all day in hopes that someone uploaded it.

That's ok - only reason I saw it was because they still had last week's on display when I went to buy this week's! I caved and bought a copy of this week's online! Couldn't face going over into town again today!

Is anyone here kind enough to upload the album somewhere or to provide a link for it? I would totally get the magazine if I lived in the UK but unfortunately I don't and shipping would cost me more than the actual magazine, not to mention it will probably arrive in like a month or so, so I'm not really sure if it's worth ordering it (also I've seen a lot of people who are in the same situation as I am)

Mike's expression exactly describes this album.
