I only just watched this - I was outside the building with a few others hoping to meet them afterwards but alas, dashed dreams once again!

That little boy asking about their favourite song was so adorable - and Billie saying Letterbomb :D:D

I just watched this on Green Day's facebook page. I really like that they are using social media more. It makes them seem more accessable. LOL at Tre in the beginning. He is forever like a little kid having fun. I just want to hug him. Anyway, there were some pretty good qyestions once they got past all the political things. I liked that little boy's question too. It was cute.

Sorry, but I just watched this and my jaw hit the floor for his cello explanation. Without hesitation he gave a completely legit and lovely answer. Good shit right there.

Agreed. The way he explained it made total sense to me and I like the song now.

Honestly I leave for five minutes and people start thinking Billie is making sense...before everyone weeps their beautiful eyes out about how beautiful cellos are have you forgotten the entire line of the song? It seems Billie has.

"I feel like a cello lost somewhere over the rainbow way up high"

His explanation

"A cello is like a, it’s very, it can be really kind of deep and sad sounding over-like, an instrument, and it’s a very beautiful instrument.

Um, I think in the symphony it tells the story of something that is hitting the bottom of your heart."

So he feels like a very deep and sad and beautiful instrument that tells a story of something that is hitting the bottom of your heart lost somewhere over the rainbow way up high.

What a brilliant line Billie

You don't think the contrast is rather poetic? I do :)

I think it's a ridiculous line, he knows it and wanted to strangle that girl who asked him the question. When he said "thanks for that" to her it was more like thanks for making me look like an idiot. Both of her questions were brilliant but put him on the spot. Billie can evidently (attempt to while under pressure) polish a piece of shit but it's still shit :P:lol:

Just because it's a ridiculous line (no one can argue with that lol), doesn't mean people can't draw meaning from it. He could have just admitted it was meant to make no sense, as a lot of people here guessed. But he had an actual answer so *shrugs*

People can draw meaning from anything (clearly) and can you really see him saying that it didn't make any sense in that room full of people? No chance. He was going to give some kind of rambling answer. Which he did. His explanation however left out the bit about being "somewhere over the rainbow way up high" and focused 100% on what a cello makes him think of and even then his explanation was confusing and rambling. If he felt a cello was "very deep and sad" then why is he also "way up high".

Yes, so what's the problem? tbh I can totally see him saying it's not meant to make sense because it's a result of being high. But he offered an alternate meaning.

He said a cello is a deep, sad instrument. If we take that interpretation, he's saying he felt like that, whilst also feeling lost over the rainbow (rainbow representing life or meaning or something). 'Way up high' could mean he doesn't feel grounded, he's lost, he missed the rainbow, he's losing control. Or maybe it means getting high on drugs because of that cello feeling.

It's just a bunch of metaphors that are fun to try and decipher, maybe not intentionally deep or anything but if someone can make that connection then just let them for god's sake :P

I don't think it's a great line, it's pretty random regardless of the explanation (I do, however, think it's hilarious so I'm not really bothered :P ). But I don't think it makes less sense because of the rainbow part or that he was bullshitting? The song is about feeling stupid and confused, so he describes feeling sad (the cello) and lost (over the rainbow, a ridiculous place for a cello, or anything that doesn't fly, to be). It's pretty straightforward.

I'll have to watch it again because I don't remember him being super angry at the girl either. But then I was busy mourning the theft of my cello question.

He had an immediate answer and very obviously wasn't bullshitting, nor did he appear annoyed at the question whatsoever. She asked what it meant to "feel like a cello" and he had a perfectly reasonable explanation. Being "lost somewhere over the rainbow" doesn't detract from the meaning he gave. I don't know what his take is, but to me it's like being lost in a daydream or a fantasy. The song focuses on how he feels like people like his father are actually making positive change while he feels a bit useless. So he feels sad and lost. It's not a stretch.

There's a difference between not liking a line and a line not making sense. It's fine to dislike it or think it's stupid, but it does, in fact, make sense.

How could anyone not love the line? It epitomises the song title. Too dumb to die

One of the catchiest lines on the album! Perfect way to sum up his feelings, nobody else can come up with that, it's gold!

Exactly my thoughts. If he would be kidding or making things up it would take a lot more time, but he answered immediately. You can easily tell by his body language too.

Have you ever heard about oxymoron? If you have, then I'm missing something from your post probably. If you haven't, then it's really nice of you to remind us how stupid the people, who heard about it and understand that line, are. Congratulations, you did a great job.

I don't get it, how's that line stupid?! Or the explanation is bullshit?! It makes perfect sense to me

Maybe people who don't get it never felt deeply sad and lost?! I honestly don't get it.

Like you can pick many lines of GD songs that doesn't make sense or is pure stupid, but this line isn't one of them.

There are definitely some Trilogy lines that are a million times worse  but I liked the cello line when the only interpretation was that it was a 'high on drugs' line, and Billie's explanation made me like it even more.

The Green Day interview that was posted on youtube and on greendayauthority.com titled 'Green Day answers questions at Warner Music UK Q&A'  ....  here it is, or was, http://www.greendayauthority.com/page/5/

The interview is now gone.  I have to believe that it was something Billie Joe said about Trump becoming the new president.  I remember watching the interview and Billie said, and I am paraphrasing - 'if something drastic doesn't happen in the next month or two, donald trump will be our new president'.  Now it's sad because people may have assumed that Billie was suggesting something sinister and I don't think Billie meant that at all.  It's sad that the interview is no longer on the internet for Green Day fans to view.  It's sad that youtube can be pussies and get censored.  GDA has nothing to do with the video being taken down, it's the new era, as Sarcasm put it.  Kinda kissing ass here, but Andres is a great mod.  He jumped on this thread before I could read what I typed.  It's sad because it is going to be the new norm.  Peace and Love

I really doubt it was taken down for that reason.

First off, thank you for posting the very hard to find video again...  I'm curious as to your reasons as to why it was taken down?  Thank you Andres.
