Another moment where I have to remind myself of your age, because you are again showing that you are wise beyond your years.

I can't ever thank you enough for this much praise - you give me a lot of credit for procrastinating online

one youtube channel after another is getting suspended for uploading the chant video 🙃 like, the videos don't just get deleted, their entire account is. there have been at least three different accounts.

Playing Still Breathing would have been a mistake - this worked 100%.

Not sure about the first thing. Who cares, they did something great. Fuck yes.

There's no way it would have made this much impact.

Btw, I saw a post on Tumblr claiming that ABC and AMAs team weren't informed about the chant and "demand an explanation/apology" from the band. The source is very dubious imo - noone was directly quoted.

I can't believe how many people on Facebook etc, are slagging the band off calling them old, has-beens, etc. I think it is obvious that they were going to say something about Trump last night. Their performance last night demonstrates what I like about them. GD have always told people to stand up for what they believe in- and they have always had the guts to do that themselves.

However, I would like to hear Still Breathing sometime because it has the potential to be huge.

You've gotta understand that roughly 48% of voting Americans disagree with Green Day. You are going to see all of that on Facebook.

I mean Green Day had rehearsals, the AMAs reported that. Did they exclude the chant? If that's true, I love that they didn't tell anyone. Such rebels :D

I've never seen so much hate for Green Day on the internet before

But at least we know that they don't really care

I think people just come crawling out of the woodwork when GD make mainstream news in an attempt to be a voice of dissent. I wouldn't worry about it!

Yes I know, but that's not really the point. Look, all I'm saying is that it gets a little annoying when someone keeps on beating over the head with something that you already know how they feel about. It's kind of like that one friend that always says they hate Green Day when ever they play on the radio. It gets annoying.

Someone saying they hate Green Day is slightly different to the band making their voices heard re: Trump. I get the feeling Billie got a little frustrated that he couldn't take part in the protests being in Europe, and probably doesn't have the time even now with all the publicity they're doing, so he decided to make his voice heard in the way he can - on live TV :D People won't shut up about Trump as long as he's in power and people are frightened about what that means for them.

They aren't losing many fans - they obviously mostly appeal to liberals anyway. Trump is a gift from heaven for them. They are relevant again, American Idiot gets airplay again >>> how convenient for the movie. AMA's got them trending everywhere and they made news headlines with it. This is a very well done rehash of the promotion they did for American Idiot. The mild outrage they cause is the best thing for them, they aren't losing fans, they are gaining them - a bit of controversy makes them more attractive for people as opposed to being a nonconfrontational band of middle-aged dudes. Playing Still Breathing would have been a mistake - this worked 100%. This is the once in a lifetime opportunity to say that their marketing geniuses did their job well.

I was thinking about this today - how Trump will do absolute wonders for their publicity, and it already has. I do think they would much rather he didn't win the presidency, but as it is you can't really deny that it's marketing gold for a political band.

Idk why I don't see this as "punk" or "rebellious." It just seems a little half-assed. Although I don't blame them for pandering bc look at how it's helping their brand right now.

I think that Mike and Jason were chanting that too, that makes me think that they rehearsed it before or at least they planned it IMHO. :ninja:

Well it sure got everyone talking. Not sure what's half assed about it. Definitely don't think they were 'pandering' - have you not seen all the other interviews? They're scared about what's happening to their country. And sometimes anger comes from a place of fear. No denying it's getting them publicity though, but I genuinely think they'd have done it anyway.

They could've done something more extreme, but equally could've done something less extreme or nothing, wasn't the biggest statement ever but was still a statement. I don't think it's just pandering, hearing them in interviews it seems clear they genuinely feel passionately about this.

I don't believe things like this incite change. They incite fear and anger. What Billie does for the environment and for young musicians...that's fucking punk. Trump is our president and wanting him to fail or refusing to work with him is going to fuck this country up.

I definitely think they planned and rehearsed it, just not in front of anyone! it wasn't just Billie chanting, it was all of them - in unison. Which packs an even bigger punch than if it were just Billie - headlines could have taken a different turn if he'd done it alone.

I'm not American but they reminded me why I love this band so much last night 😌

If that was half-assed, what would they have to do to make it full-assed? :)

Drop the pants and squeeze out a Dookie on to picture of Trump. They could call it the "Trump Dump"

They are scared and angry - everyone who didn't want Trump to win is. TRUMP is going to fuck the country up, not those who are voicing their dissent. I'm not sure what your point is anyway, Billie Joe can say whatever the fuck he wants and feel whatever he feels.

What willl fuck your country up is having him as president. The faster you manage to get rid of him the less your country will be fucked up. How could anyone want an administration of white supremacists to "succeed"? What would that even look like? Individual gestures like this one, Grimes and Death Cab's might not do a lot by on their own but now is the time to inspire anger and musicians have traditionally been quite good at that.

Lmao at the haters. Green Day voicing their opinion on the current state of not just the usa but the world as the right wing assholes are making a comeback all over. This shit they spout is dangerous people like Trump and Pence deserve to be called out on their bigotry. And I fucking love Green Day even more for calling out the right wingers or should i say whingers.
